Chapter 1
1:1Paul, a prisoner of the Anointed One Jesus, and Timothy the brother, to Philemon our beloved fellow worker,1:2And to beloved Apphia, Archippus our fellow soldier, and the assembly in your house:1:3Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus the Anointed One.1:4I thank my God, always making mention of you in my prayers,1:5Hearing of your love and faith that you have toward the Lord Jesus and toward all the holy ones,1:6That the sharing of your faith may become effective through the full knowledge of every good thing that is in you toward the Anointed One Jesus.1:7For we have great joy and comfort in your love, because the hearts of the holy ones have been refreshed through you, brother.1:8Therefore, though I have much boldness in the Anointed One to command you what is fitting,1:9Yet for love’s sake I rather appeal to you, being such a one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus the Anointed One.1:10I appeal to you for my child Onesimus, whom I begot in my chains,1:11Who once was unprofitable to you, but now is profitable both to you and to me.1:12I am sending him back to you. Therefore receive him—that is, my own heart.1:13I wished to keep him with me, that on your behalf he might serve me in the chains of the good news,1:14But without your consent I wished to do nothing, that your good deed might not be by compulsion, but willingly.1:15For perhaps he was separated from you for a time, that you might have him forever,1:16No longer as a slave, but more than a slave—a beloved brother, especially to me, and how much more to you, both in the flesh and in the Lord.1:17If, then, you regard me as a partner, receive him as you would me.1:18But if he has wronged you or owes you anything, charge this to me.1:19I, Paul, write this with my own hand: I will repay it—not to mention that you owe me even yourself.1:20Yes, brother, let me have this benefit from you in the Lord; refresh my heart in the Lord.1:21Confident in your obedience, I wrote to you, knowing that you will do even beyond what I say.1:22At the same time, also prepare a lodging for me, for I hope that through your prayers I will be granted to you.1:23Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in the Anointed One Jesus, greets you,1:24As do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my fellow workers.1:25The grace of our Lord Jesus the Anointed One be with your spirit. So be it.
