Chapter 1
1:1Paul, Silas, and Timothy, to the assembly of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus the Anointed One: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus the Anointed One.1:2We always give thanks to God for you all, making mention of you in our prayers,1:3unceasingly remembering your work of faith, labor of love, and endurance of hope in our Lord Jesus the Anointed One before our God and Father,1:4knowing, brothers beloved by God, God’s choice of you,1:5because our good news did not come to you in word only, but also in power, in the Holy Spirit, and in much assurance, even as you know what kind of men we became among you for your sake.1:6And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, having received the word amid much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit,1:7so that you became patterns to all who believe in Macedonia and Achaia.1:8For from you the word of the Lord has sounded forth, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but in every place your faith toward God has gone forth, so that we have no need to say anything.1:9For they themselves report concerning us what manner of entrance we had to you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve a living and true God,1:10And to wait for His Son from the heavens, whom He raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.Chapter 2
2:1For you yourselves know, brothers, that our entrance to you was not in vain.2:2But though we had suffered before and been mistreated in Philippi, as you know, we were bold in our God to speak to you the good news of God amid much conflict.2:3For our exhortation is not from deceit, nor from uncleanness, nor in guile,2:4but as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the good news, so we speak—not as pleasing men, but God, who tests our hearts.2:5For at no time did we come with a word of flattery, as you know, nor with a pretext for greed—God is witness—2:6nor seeking glory from men, either from you or from others, though we could have been a burden as apostles of the Anointed One.2:7But we became gentle in your midst, as a nurse tenderly cares for her own children.2:8So, longing for you deeply, we were pleased to share with you not only the good news of God but also our own lives, because you had become beloved to us.2:9For you remember, brothers, our labor and toil; working night and day so as not to burden any of you, we proclaimed the good news of God to you.2:10You are witnesses—and God also—how devoutly, righteously, and blamelessly we conducted ourselves toward you who believe,2:11just as you know how we exhorted, comforted, and testified to each one of you, as a father does his own children,2:12so that you would walk worthily of God, who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.2:13And because of this we also continually give thanks to God: when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it truly is, the word of God, which also works in you who believe.2:14For you, brothers, became imitators of the assemblies of God that are in Judea in Jesus the Anointed One, because you suffered the same things from your own countrymen as they also did from the Jews,2:15who put to death both the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and persecuted us; they do not please God and are contrary to all men,2:16forbidding us to speak to the nations so that they might be saved, thus always filling up their sins; but the wrath has come upon them to the end.2:17But we, brothers, having been bereaved of you for a short time—in face, not in heart—endeavored all the more, with great desire, to see your face.2:18Therefore we wished to come to you—I, Paul, both once and again—but Satan hindered us.2:19For what is our hope, or joy, or garland of rejoicing? Is it not even you before our Lord Jesus the Anointed One at His coming?2:20For you are our glory and joy.Chapter 3
3:1Therefore, when we could endure it no longer, we thought it good to be left alone in Athens,3:2and sent Timothy—our brother, a servant of God, and our fellow-worker in the good news of the Anointed One—to establish you and comfort you concerning your faith,3:3so that no one may be shaken by these afflictions, for you yourselves know that we are appointed to this.3:4For even when we were with you, we told you beforehand that we were about to suffer affliction, as it also came to pass, and you know it.3:5For this reason, when I also could endure it no longer, I sent to learn of your faith, lest somehow the tempter had tempted you and our labor might be in vain.3:6But now Timothy has come to us from you and brought us good news of your faith and love, and that you always have a good remembrance of us, greatly desiring to see us, as we also desire to see you.3:7Because of this we were comforted over you, brothers, in all our affliction and distress, through your faith,3:8Because now we live, if you stand fast in the Lord.3:9For what thanks can we return to God concerning you, for all the joy with which we rejoice because of you before our God,3:10night and day imploring exceedingly that we may see your face and complete what is lacking in your faith?3:11Now may our God and Father Himself, and our Lord Jesus the Anointed One, direct our way to you,3:12and may the Lord cause you to increase and abound in love toward one another and toward all, even as we also toward you,3:13so that He may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus the Anointed One with all His holy ones.Chapter 4
4:1Finally, then, brothers, we ask and exhort you in the Lord Jesus: just as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God, so abound still more,4:2For you know what commands we gave you through the Lord Jesus.4:3For this is the will of God—your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality,4:4That each of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor,4:5Not in the passion of lust, as also the nations that do not know God;4:6That no one transgress and defraud his brother in the matter, because the Lord is an avenger of all these things, as we also told you before and solemnly testified,4:7For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in sanctification.4:8Therefore, he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who also gave His Holy Spirit to us.4:9But concerning brotherly love, you have no need that I write to you, for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another;4:10For you also do this toward all the brothers throughout Macedonia. But we urge you, brothers, to abound still more,4:11And to aspire to live quietly, to attend to your own affairs, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you,4:12So that you may walk properly toward those outside and may have need of nothing.4:13But I do not wish you to be unaware, brothers, concerning those who have fallen asleep, so that you may not sorrow as the rest do, who have no hope.4:14For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, so also God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep through Jesus.4:15For we say this to you by the word of the Lord: we who live and remain until the coming of the Lord will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep,4:16For the Lord Himself, with a shout, with the voice of a chief messenger, and with the trumpet of God, will come down from Heaven, and the dead in the Anointed One will rise first;4:17Then we who live and remain will be snatched up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air; and so we will always be with the Lord.4:18Therefore comfort one another with these words.Chapter 5
5:1But concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need that anything be written to you,5:2For you yourselves know very well that the Day of the Lord comes as a thief in the night.5:3For when they say, “Peace and security,” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a woman with child; and they will not escape.5:4But you, brothers, are not in darkness, that the Day should overtake you like a thief;5:5You are all sons of light and sons of the day; we are not of the night, nor of darkness,5:6Therefore let us not sleep as the others do, but let us watch and be sober.5:7For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who become drunk are drunk at night;5:8But since we are of the day, let us be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet, the hope of salvation,5:9Because God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus the Anointed One,5:10Who died for us, so that whether we wake or sleep, we may live together with Him.5:11Therefore comfort one another and build one another up, as indeed you do.5:12And we ask you, brothers, to recognize those who labor among you, who lead you in the Lord and admonish you,5:13And to esteem them exceedingly highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.5:14And we exhort you, brothers: admonish the disorderly, comfort the fainthearted, support the weak, and be patient toward all.5:15See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always pursue what is good, both toward one another and toward all.5:16Rejoice always;5:17pray continually;5:18Give thanks in everything, for this is the will of God for you in the Anointed One Jesus.5:19Do not quench the Spirit;5:20Do not despise prophecies;5:21Test all things; hold fast to what is good;5:22Abstain from every form of evil;5:23And may the God of peace Himself sanctify you wholly, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus the Anointed One;5:24Faithful is He who calls you, who also will do it.5:25Brothers, pray for us.5:26Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.5:27I charge you by the Lord that this letter be read to all the holy brothers.5:28The grace of our Lord Jesus the Anointed One be with you. So be it.
