Chapter 1

1:1Peter, an apostle of Jesus the Anointed One, to the chosen sojourners of the dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,
1:2according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and the sprinkling of the blood of Jesus the Anointed One: Grace and peace be multiplied to you.
1:3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus the Anointed One, who according to His abundant mercy begot us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus the Anointed One from the dead,
1:4to an incorruptible, undefiled, and unfading inheritance, reserved in Heaven for you,
1:5who are guarded by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
1:6In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials,
1:7so that the testing of your faith—much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus the Anointed One.
1:8Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; though you do not see Him now, yet believing in Him, you rejoice with unspeakable joy, full of glory,
1:9receiving the outcome of your faith—the salvation of your souls.
1:10Concerning this salvation the prophets sought and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you,
1:11searching what time or what manner of time the Spirit of the Anointed One who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand of the sufferings of the Anointed One and the glories that would follow.
1:12To them it was revealed that they were ministering these things not to themselves but to us—things now announced to you through those who proclaimed the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from Heaven, things into which angels desire to look intently.
1:13Therefore, fastening the belt around the waist of your mind, be sober and set your hope fully on the grace being brought to you at the revelation of Jesus the Anointed One.
1:14As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former desires of your ignorance,
1:15but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,
1:16because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”
1:17And if you call on as Father the One who judges without partiality according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your sojourn,
1:18knowing that you were redeemed from your futile conduct inherited from your forefathers, not with corruptible things such as silver or gold,
1:19but with precious blood, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot—the blood of the Anointed One—
1:20who indeed was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but was revealed in the last times for your sake.
1:21Through Him you believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope might be in God.
1:22Having purified your souls by obedience to the truth through the Spirit for sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart,
1:23having been begotten again, not from corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God, which lives and remains forever.
1:24For “all flesh is like grass, and all the glory of man like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and its flower falls away,
1:25but the word of the Lord remains forever.” And this is the word that was proclaimed to you as good news.

Chapter 2

2:1Therefore, putting aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisies, envies, and all slanders,
2:2as newborn infants, desire the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up to salvation,
2:3if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good.
2:4Coming to Him, a living stone—rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious—
2:5you yourselves also, as living stones, are being built into a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus the Anointed One.
2:6Therefore it is also contained in the Writing: “Behold, I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone, chosen and precious; and the one who believes in Him will not be put to shame.”
2:7To you who believe, then, He is precious; but to those who disobey, “The stone the builders rejected has become the head of the corner,”
2:8and, “A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense.” They stumble because they disobey the word, to which they were also appointed.
2:9But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.
2:10Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
2:11Beloved, I urge you as strangers and sojourners to abstain from fleshly desires that wage war against the soul,
2:12keeping your conduct honorable among the nations, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good works and glorify God in the day of visitation.
2:13Therefore submit to every human institution because of the Lord, whether to a king as supreme,
2:14or to governors as those sent through him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do good.
2:15For this is the will of God: that by doing good you may silence the ignorance of foolish men—
2:16as free, yet not using freedom as a cover for evil, but as slaves of God.
2:17Honor all; love the brotherhood; fear God; honor the king.
2:18Household servants, be subject to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and gentle but also to the crooked.
2:19For this is grace: if anyone, because of conscience toward God, endures sorrows while suffering wrongfully.
2:20For what credit is it if, when you sin and are beaten, you endure? But if, when you do good and suffer for it, you endure, this is grace with God.
2:21For to this you were called, because the Anointed One also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in His steps,
2:22“who committed no sin, nor was deceit found in His mouth,”
2:23who, when reviled, did not revile in return; when suffering, did not threaten, but entrusted Himself to Him who judges righteously.
2:24He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, that having died to sins, we might live to righteousness; by His wounds you were healed.
2:25For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

Chapter 3

3:1Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some disobey the word, they may be won without a word through the conduct of their wives,
3:2when they observe your pure conduct in fear.
3:3Let your adornment not be outward—the braiding of hair, the wearing of gold, or the putting on of garments—
3:4but the hidden person of the heart, in the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great value before God.
3:5For in this way the holy women who hoped in God also adorned themselves in former times, being subject to their own husbands,
3:6as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him “lord.” You became her daughters by doing good and not fearing any terror.
3:7Likewise, husbands, live with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor to the woman as to a weaker vessel and as co-heirs of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.
3:8Finally, all of you be of one mind, sympathetic, loving as brothers, compassionate, and courteous,
3:9not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.
3:10For “the one who desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit.
3:11Let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it.
3:12For the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and His ears are open to their supplication; but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”
3:13And who will harm you if you become zealous for what is good?
3:14But even if you should suffer for righteousness, you are blessed. “Do not fear what they fear, nor be troubled,”
3:15but sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you for an account of the hope within you, with gentleness and fear,
3:16having a good conscience, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, those who malign your good conduct in the Anointed One may be ashamed.
3:17For it is better, if God wills it, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.
3:18For the Anointed One also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that He might bring us to God, having indeed been put to death in the flesh but made alive in the Spirit,
3:19in which He also went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison,
3:20who formerly disobeyed, when once the patience of God waited in the days of Noah while the ark was being prepared, in which a few—that is, eight souls—were saved through water.
3:21This corresponds to immersion, which now saves you—not the removal of filth from the flesh, but the appeal of a good conscience to God—through the resurrection of Jesus the Anointed One,
3:22who is at the right hand of God, having gone into Heaven, with angels, authorities, and powers subjected to Him.

Chapter 4

4:1Since the Anointed One suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, because the one who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,
4:2so as to live the rest of your time in the flesh no longer for the desires of men, but for the will of God.
4:3For the time past is sufficient to have carried out the desire of the nations, when you walked in licentiousness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking bouts, and lawless idolatries.
4:4They think it strange that you do not run with them into the same flood of reckless living, and they slander you—
4:5they will give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
4:6For this reason the good news was proclaimed even to the dead, so that though they might be judged according to men in the flesh, they might live according to God in the Spirit.
4:7Now the end of all things has drawn near; therefore be sound-minded and sober for prayer.
4:8Above all, maintain earnest love among yourselves, because love covers a multitude of sins.
4:9Be hospitable to one another without murmuring.
4:10As each one has received a gift, serve one another with it, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
4:11If anyone speaks, let him speak as oracles of God; if anyone serves, let him serve by the strength that God supplies, so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus the Anointed One, to whom be the glory and the power through the ages of the ages. So be it.
4:12Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial among you that is coming to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.
4:13But insofar as you share in the sufferings of the Anointed One, rejoice, so that at the revelation of His glory you may also rejoice with exultation.
4:14If you are reproached in the Name of the Anointed One, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part He is spoken of evilly, but on your part He is glorified.
4:15For let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evildoer, or as a meddler in the affairs of others.
4:16But if anyone suffers as a follower of the Anointed One, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this respect.
4:17For it is time for judgment to begin from the house of God; and if it begins first from us, what will be the end of those who disobey the good news of God?
4:18And “if the righteous one is scarcely saved, where will the ungodly and the sinner appear?”
4:19Therefore, let those who suffer according to the will of God entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing good.

Chapter 5

5:1The elders among you I exhort, as a fellow elder, a witness of the sufferings of the Anointed One, and a partaker of the glory about to be revealed:
5:2Shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight not by compulsion but willingly, not for shameful gain but eagerly,
5:3not as exercising lordship over those entrusted to you, but becoming patterns for the flock.
5:4And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading garland of glory.
5:5Likewise, you younger ones, be subject to the elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
5:6Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you in due time,
5:7casting all your care upon Him, because He cares for you.
5:8Be sober and vigilant. Your opponent, the Devil, walks about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
5:9Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.
5:10And the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in the Anointed One Jesus, after you have suffered a little, will Himself restore, establish, strengthen, and settle you.
5:11To Him be the glory and the power through the ages of the ages. So be it.
5:12Through Silas, the faithful brother as I regard him, I wrote briefly to you, exhorting and testifying that this is the true grace of God in which you stand.
5:13She who is in Babylon, chosen with you, greets you, and so does Mark my son.
5:14Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace to you all who are in the Anointed One Jesus. So be it.
