Chapter 1

1:1The record of the genealogy of Jesus the Anointed One, Son of David, Son of Abraham.
1:2Abraham begot Isaac; and Isaac begot Jacob; and Jacob begot Judah and his brothers;
1:3and Judah begot Perez and Zerah by Tamar; and Perez begot Hezron; and Hezron begot Ram;
1:4and Ram begot Amminadab; and Amminadab begot Nahshon; and Nahshon begot Salmon;
1:5and Salmon begot Boaz by Rahab; and Boaz begot Obed by Ruth; and Obed begot Jesse;
1:6and Jesse begot David the king. And David the king begot Solomon by the wife of Uriah;
1:7and Solomon begot Rehoboam; and Rehoboam begot Abijah; and Abijah begot Asa;
1:8and Asa begot Jehoshaphat; and Jehoshaphat begot Jehoram; and Jehoram begot Uzziah;
1:9and Uzziah begot Jotham; and Jotham begot Ahaz; and Ahaz begot Hezekiah;
1:10and Hezekiah begot Manasseh; and Manasseh begot Amon; and Amon begot Josiah;
1:11and Josiah begot Jehoiachin and his brothers at the deportation to Babylon.
1:12And after the deportation to Babylon, Jehoiachin begot Shealtiel; and Shealtiel begot Zerubbabel;
1:13and Zerubbabel begot Abiud; and Abiud begot Eliakim; and Eliakim begot Azor;
1:14and Azor begot Sadok; and Sadok begot Achim; and Achim begot Eliud;
1:15and Eliud begot Eleazar; and Eleazar begot Matthan; and Matthan begot Jacob;
1:16and Jacob begot Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom Jesus was born, who is called the Anointed One.
1:17So all the generations from Abraham to David were fourteen generations; and from David to the deportation to Babylon, fourteen generations; and from the deportation to Babylon to the Anointed One, fourteen generations.
1:18Now the birth of Jesus the Anointed One was thus: His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph; before they came together, she was found to have conceived by the Holy Spirit.
1:19And Joseph her husband, being righteous and unwilling to expose her publicly, resolved to divorce her privately.
1:20But while he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife; for that which has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.
1:21And she will bear a Son, and you will call His Name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”
1:22And all this came to pass that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet might be fulfilled, saying,
1:23“Behold, the virgin will conceive and bear a Son, and they will call His Name Immanuel,” which means, “God with us.”
1:24Then Joseph awoke from sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took his wife;
1:25and he did not know her until she gave birth to her firstborn Son. And he called His Name Jesus.

Chapter 2

2:1Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem,
2:2saying, “Where is He who was born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east, and have come to worship Him.”
2:3When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
2:4And gathering all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Anointed One was to be born.
2:5And they said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written through the prophet:
2:6‘And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, are by no means least among the leaders of Judah; for out of you will come One who will shepherd My people Israel.’”
2:7Then Herod secretly called the wise men and learned from them exactly when the star had appeared.
2:8And sending them to Bethlehem, he said, “Go and search diligently for the Child; and when you have found Him, bring me word again, that I also may come and worship Him.”
2:9After hearing the king, they departed. And behold, the star that they had seen in the east went before them, until it came and stood over where the Child was.
2:10When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.
2:11And entering the house, they saw the Child with Mary His mother; and falling down, they worshiped Him. Then, opening their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
2:12And after God warned them in a dream not to return to Herod, they withdrew to their own region by another way.
2:13After they had withdrawn, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph, saying, “Rise, take the Child and His mother, and flee to Egypt; and remain there until I speak to you, for Herod is about to seek the Child to destroy Him.”
2:14And he rose and took the Child and His mother by night, and withdrew to Egypt.
2:15And he remained there until the death of Herod, that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet might be fulfilled, saying, “Out of Egypt I called My Son.”
2:16Then Herod saw that he had been deceived by the wise men, and was exceedingly angry; and he sent forth and killed all the boys in Bethlehem and in all its surrounding region, from two years old and under, according to the time he had learned exactly from the wise men.
2:17Then what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled, saying,
2:18“A voice was heard in Ramah—weeping and great mourning—Rachel weeping for her children; and she would not be comforted, because they are no more.”
2:19And after Herod died, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,
2:20saying, “Rise, take the Child and His mother, and go to the land of Israel; for those who sought the life of the Child have died.”
2:21And he rose, took the Child and His mother, and came into the land of Israel.
2:22But when he heard that Archelaus reigned over Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there; and after God warned him in a dream, he withdrew to the regions of Galilee.
2:23And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth, that what was spoken through the Prophets might be fulfilled: “He will be called a Nazarene.”

Chapter 3

3:1In those days John the Immerser came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea,
3:2and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has drawn near.”
3:3For this is he who was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying, “A voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord; make His paths straight.”
3:4And John himself wore clothing of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey.
3:5Then Jerusalem went out to him, and all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan;
3:6and they were immersed by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.
3:7But seeing many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for immersion, he said to them, “Brood of vipers! Who showed you how to flee from the coming wrath?
3:8Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance,
3:9and do not presume to say within yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father’; for I say to you that God is able to raise up children for Abraham from these stones.
3:10Even now the axe lies at the root of the trees. Therefore every tree not bearing good fruit is cut down and cast into fire.
3:11I indeed immerse you in water for repentance; but He who comes after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will immerse you in the Holy Spirit and fire.
3:12His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will thoroughly cleanse His threshing floor and gather His wheat into the storehouse; but the chaff He will burn with unquenchable fire.”
3:13Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan, to be immersed by him.
3:14But John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I need to be immersed by You, and do You come to me?”
3:15But Jesus answered and said to him, “Permit it now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he permitted Him.
3:16After He was immersed, Jesus immediately came up from the water. And behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and coming upon Him.
3:17And behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is My Son, the Beloved, in whom I delight.”

Chapter 4

4:1Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness, to be tempted by the Devil.
4:2And after He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He was hungry.
4:3And the tempter came to Him and said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”
4:4But He answered and said, “It is written: Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word coming forth from the mouth of God.”
4:5Then the Devil took Him to the holy city and set Him upon the pinnacle of the temple,
4:6and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, cast Yourself down; for it is written: ‘He will command His angels concerning You,’ and, ‘On their hands they will bear You up, lest You strike Your foot against a stone.’”
4:7Jesus said to him, “Again it is written: You shall not test the Lord your God.”
4:8Again the Devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory,
4:9and said to Him, “All these I will give You, if You fall down and worship me.”
4:10Then Jesus said to him, “Go, Satan! For it is written: You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only shall you serve.”
4:11Then the Devil left Him; and behold, angels came and served Him.
4:12And when Jesus heard that John had been delivered up, He withdrew to Galilee.
4:13And leaving Nazareth, He came and settled in Capernaum, which was by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali,
4:14that what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, saying,
4:15“Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations!
4:16The people sitting in darkness saw a great light; and upon those sitting in a land and shadow of death, light arose.”
4:17From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has drawn near.”
4:18And as Jesus walked by the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea—for they were fishermen.
4:19And He said to them, “Come after Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
4:20And they immediately left the nets and followed Him.
4:21And going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and He called them.
4:22And they immediately left the boat and their father and followed Him.
4:23And Jesus went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness among the people.
4:24And His fame went forth into all Syria; and they brought to Him all who were ill, suffering from various diseases and torments—those possessed by demons, those suffering seizures, and paralytics—and He healed them.
4:25And great crowds followed Him from Galilee, Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and beyond the Jordan.

Chapter 5

5:1And when He saw the crowds, He went up the mountain; and after He sat down, His disciples came to Him.
5:2Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying,
5:3“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
5:4Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
5:5Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land.
5:6Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
5:7Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.
5:8Blessed are the clean in heart, for they will see God.
5:9Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.
5:10Blessed are those who have been persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
5:11Blessed are you when men reproach you, and persecute you, and falsely say every evil thing against you for My sake.
5:12Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in the heavens; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
5:13You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt becomes tasteless, with what will it be salted? It is then good for nothing except to be cast outside and trampled down by men.
5:14You are the light of the world. A city set upon a mountain cannot be hidden.
5:15Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but upon the lampstand; and it shines to all who are in the house.
5:16So let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in the heavens.
5:17Do not suppose that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill.
5:18For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not one smallest letter or one stroke will by any means pass away from the Law, until all comes to pass.
5:19Therefore whoever loosens even one of these least commandments and teaches men so, he will be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
5:20For I say to you that unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.
5:21You heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder’; and whoever murders will be liable to the judgment.
5:22But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother without cause will be liable to the judgment; and whoever says to his brother, ‘Worthless one,’ will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘Fool,’ will be liable to the fiery Valley of Hinnom.
5:23Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has anything against you,
5:24leave your gift there before the altar, and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and bring your gift.
5:25Settle with your opponent quickly, while you are on the way with him, lest the opponent deliver you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and you be cast into prison.
5:26Truly I say to you, you will by no means come out from there until you pay the last small coin.
5:27You heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’
5:28But I say to you that everyone who looks upon a woman to lust after her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
5:29But if your right eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is better for you that one of your members perish, and not your whole body be cast into the Valley of Hinnom.
5:30And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is better for you that one of your members perish, and not your whole body be cast into the Valley of Hinnom.
5:31And it was said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’
5:32But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife, except for the matter of sexual immorality, causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
5:33Again, you heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not swear falsely, but shall fulfill your oaths to the Lord.’
5:34But I say to you, do not swear at all: neither by Heaven, for it is the throne of God;
5:35nor by the earth, for it is His footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.
5:36Nor shall you swear by your head, for you are not able to make one hair white or black.
5:37But let your word be, ‘Yes, yes,’ or, ‘No, no’; and whatever is more than these is of the evil one.
5:38You heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’
5:39But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also.
5:40And whoever would sue you and take your coat, let him have your cloak also.
5:41And whoever presses you into service for one mile, go with him two.
5:42Give to him who asks of you; and do not turn away from him who wishes to borrow from you.
5:43You heard that it was said, ‘You will love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’
5:44But I say to you: love your enemies; bless those who curse you; do good to those who hate you; and pray for those who falsely accuse you and persecute you,
5:45that you may be sons of your Father in the heavens; for He causes His sun to rise upon the evil and the good, and sends rain upon the righteous and the unrighteous.
5:46For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not the tax collectors also do the same?
5:47And if you greet your brothers only, what more do you do? Do not the nations also do so?
5:48Therefore be perfect, as your Father who is in the heavens is perfect.

Chapter 6

6:1Take care not to practice your charitable giving before men, to be seen by them; otherwise you have no reward from your Father who is in the heavens.
6:2Therefore, whenever you give to the needy, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may receive glory from men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward.
6:3But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand does,
6:4that your giving may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you.
6:5And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites; for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and at the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward.
6:6But when you pray, enter your inner room; and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
6:7And when you pray, do not heap up empty words as the nations do; for they think they will be heard for their many words.
6:8Therefore do not be like them, for your Father knows the things you need before you ask Him.
6:9Therefore pray thus: Our Father who is in the heavens, may Your Name be held holy.
6:10Your kingdom come. Your will be done, as in Heaven, so also upon the earth.
6:11Give us today our appointed bread.
6:12And forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors.
6:13And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one; for Yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. So be it.
6:14For if you forgive men their trespasses, your Father who is in the heavens will also forgive you.
6:15But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
6:16And whenever you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with gloomy faces; for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear to men to be fasting. Truly I say to you, they have their reward.
6:17But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,
6:18that you may not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
6:19Do not treasure up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break through and steal.
6:20But treasure up for yourselves treasures in Heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break through or steal.
6:21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
6:22The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore, if your eye is sound, your whole body will be full of light.
6:23But if your eye is evil, your whole body will be full of darkness. Therefore, if the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
6:24No one is able to serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will hold to the one and despise the other. You are not able to serve God and wealth.
6:25Therefore I say to you, do not be anxious for your life—what you may eat, or what you may drink—nor for your body, what you may put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
6:26Look at the birds of the sky: they do not sow, nor reap, nor gather into storehouses, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of much greater worth than they?
6:27And who among you, by being anxious, is able to add one cubit to his height?
6:28And why are you anxious concerning clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they do not labor, nor do they spin.
6:29Yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory was clothed like one of these.
6:30And if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is cast into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, you of little faith?
6:31Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or, ‘What shall we drink?’ or, ‘What shall we wear?’
6:32For the nations seek after all these things; and your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
6:33But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
6:34Therefore do not be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Chapter 7

7:1Do not judge, that you may not be judged.
7:2For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with what measure you measure, it will be measured to you.
7:3And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the beam in your own eye?
7:4Or how will you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye,’ and behold, the beam is in your own eye?
7:5Hypocrite! First remove the beam from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
7:6Do not give what is holy to the dogs, nor cast your pearls before the pigs, lest they trample them under their feet and, turning, tear you apart.
7:7Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
7:8For everyone who asks receives; and he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened.
7:9Or what man among you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?
7:10And if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent?
7:11If, therefore, you who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in the heavens give good things to those who ask Him?
7:12Therefore, whatever you wish men to do to you, do so also to them; for this is the Law and the Prophets.
7:13Enter through the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many are those who enter through it.
7:14How narrow is the gate and confined the way that leads to life, and few are those who find it!
7:15But beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves.
7:16By their fruits you will know them. Do men gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles?
7:17So every good tree yields good fruits, but the bad tree yields evil fruits.
7:18A good tree is not able to yield evil fruits, nor a bad tree to yield good fruits.
7:19Every tree not yielding good fruit is cut down and cast into fire.
7:20Therefore, by their fruits you will know them.
7:21Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in the heavens.
7:22Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your Name, and in Your Name cast out demons, and in Your Name done many mighty works?’
7:23Then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you. Depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’
7:24Therefore, everyone who hears these words of Mine and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house upon the rock.
7:25And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house; and it did not fall, for it had been founded upon the rock.
7:26And everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not do them will be likened to a foolish man who built his house upon the sand.
7:27And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house; and it fell, and its fall was great.”
7:28And when Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were astonished at His teaching,
7:29for He was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as the scribes.

Chapter 8

8:1And when He came down from the mountain, great crowds followed Him.
8:2And behold, a leper came and bowed before Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You are able to cleanse me.”
8:3And Jesus stretched forth His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
8:4And Jesus said to him, “See that you tell no one; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony to them.”
8:5And when Jesus entered Capernaum, a captain of a hundred came to Him, appealing to Him,
8:6and saying, “Lord, my servant lies at home, paralyzed and terribly tormented.”
8:7And Jesus said to him, “I will come and heal him.”
8:8But the captain of a hundred answered and said, “Lord, I am not worthy that You should enter under my roof; but only speak a word, and my servant will be healed.
8:9For I also am a man under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my slave, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
8:10When Jesus heard this, He marveled and said to those who followed, “Truly I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such great faith.
8:11And I say to you that many will come from east and west and recline with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven;
8:12but the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
8:13And Jesus said to the captain of a hundred, “Go; and as you have believed, let it be to you.” And his servant was healed in that hour.
8:14And when Jesus came into Peter’s house, He saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever.
8:15And He touched her hand, and the fever left her; and she arose and ministered to them.
8:16And when evening came, they brought to Him many who were possessed by demons; and He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were ill,
8:17that what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, saying, “He Himself took our sicknesses and bore our diseases.”
8:18And when Jesus saw great crowds around Him, He gave orders to depart to the other side.
8:19And a certain scribe came and said to Him, “Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go.”
8:20And Jesus said to him, “The foxes have holes, and the birds of the sky have nests; but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”
8:21And another of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father.”
8:22But Jesus said to him, “Follow Me, and allow the dead to bury their own dead.”
8:23And when He entered the boat, His disciples followed Him.
8:24And behold, a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered by the waves; but He slept.
8:25And His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!”
8:26And He said to them, “Why are you fearful, you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.
8:27And the men marveled, saying, “What kind of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?”
8:28And when He came to the other side, into the region of the Gergesenes, two men possessed by demons met Him, coming out of the tombs, exceedingly fierce, so that no one was able to pass by that way.
8:29And behold, they cried out, saying, “What have we to do with You, Jesus, Son of God? Did You come here to torment us before the time?”
8:30And some distance from them, a large herd of pigs was feeding.
8:31And the demons begged Him, saying, “If You cast us out, permit us to go into the herd of pigs.”
8:32And He said to them, “Go.” And they came out and went into the herd of pigs; and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep into the sea and died in the waters.
8:33And the herdsmen fled; and going into the city, they declared all things, including what had happened to the men possessed by demons.
8:34And behold, all the city came forth to meet Jesus; and seeing Him, they begged Him to depart from their region.

Chapter 9

9:1And He entered the boat, crossed over, and came to His own city.
9:2And behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying upon a bed. And when Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Take courage, child; your sins are forgiven.”
9:3And behold, certain of the scribes said among themselves, “This One blasphemes.”
9:4And Jesus knew their thoughts and said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts?
9:5For which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise and walk’?
9:6But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority upon the earth to forgive sins”—then He said to the paralytic—“Rise, take up your bed, and go to your house.”
9:7And he arose and went to his house.
9:8When the crowds saw this, they marveled and glorified God, who had given such authority to men.
9:9And as Jesus passed on from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office; and He said to him, “Follow Me.” And he arose and followed Him.
9:10And as He reclined at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and dined with Jesus and His disciples.
9:11And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to His disciples, “Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
9:12But Jesus, hearing, said to them, “Those who are healthy have no need of a physician, but those who are ill.
9:13But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice’; for I did not come to call righteous ones, but sinners to repentance.”
9:14Then the disciples of John came to Him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but Your disciples do not fast?”
9:15And Jesus said to them, “Can the companions of the bridegroom mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? But days will come when the bridegroom is taken from them, and then they will fast.
9:16And no one puts a patch of unshrunk cloth upon an old garment; for the patch pulls away from the garment, and the tear becomes worse.
9:17Nor do they put new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the wineskins burst, and the wine runs out, and the wineskins are destroyed. But they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved together.”
9:18While He was speaking these things to them, behold, a ruler came and bowed before Him, saying, “My daughter has just died; but come, lay Your hand upon her, and she will live.”
9:19And Jesus arose and followed him, and His disciples also.
9:20And behold, a woman who had suffered a flow of blood for twelve years came behind Him and touched the fringe of His garment;
9:21for she said within herself, “If only I touch His garment, I will be healed.”
9:22And Jesus turned, saw her, and said, “Take courage, daughter; your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed from that hour.
9:23And when Jesus came into the ruler’s house and saw the flute players and the crowd in commotion,
9:24He said to them, “Withdraw, for the girl has not died, but sleeps.” And they laughed at Him.
9:25But when the crowd was put outside, He entered and took hold of her hand; and the girl arose.
9:26And the fame of this went forth into all that land.
9:27And as Jesus passed on from there, two blind men followed Him, crying out and saying, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!”
9:28And when He came into the house, the blind men came to Him; and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.”
9:29Then He touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith, let it be to you.”
9:30And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, saying, “See that no one knows.”
9:31But they went forth and spread His fame throughout all that land.
9:32And as they were going forth, behold, they brought to Him a mute man possessed by a demon.
9:33And when the demon had been cast out, the mute man spoke; and the crowds marveled, saying, “Nothing like this was ever seen in Israel.”
9:34But the Pharisees said, “By the ruler of the demons He casts out demons.”
9:35And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness among the people.
9:36And seeing the crowds, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were harassed and cast down, like sheep having no shepherd.
9:37Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest indeed is abundant, but the workers are few.
9:38Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest, that He may send forth workers into His harvest.”

Chapter 10

10:1And calling His twelve disciples to Himself, He gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every sickness.
10:2Now the names of the twelve who were sent were these: first, Simon, who was called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;
10:3Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbeus, who was surnamed Thaddaeus;
10:4Simon the Zealot, and Judas Iscariot, who also handed Him over.
10:5These twelve Jesus sent forth, commanding them, saying, “Do not go among the nations, and do not enter a city of the Samaritans;
10:6but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
10:7And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven has drawn near.’
10:8Heal the sick; raise the dead; cleanse lepers; cast out demons. Freely you received; freely give.
10:9Do not take gold, silver, or copper coins in your belts;
10:10nor a bag for the journey, nor two tunics, nor sandals, nor a staff; for the worker is worthy of his food.
10:11And into whatever city or village you enter, inquire who in it is worthy, and remain there until you leave.
10:12And as you enter the house, greet it.
10:13And if the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it; but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you.
10:14And whoever does not receive you or hear your words, as you leave that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet.
10:15Truly I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city.
10:16Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents, and innocent as doves.
10:17And beware of men, for they will deliver you up to councils, and in their synagogues they will scourge you.
10:18And you will be brought before governors and kings for My sake, for a testimony to them and to the nations.
10:19And whenever they deliver you up, do not be anxious what or how you will speak; for it will be given to you in that hour what you are to speak.
10:20For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.
10:21And brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and put them to death.
10:22And you will be hated by all because of My Name; but he who has endured to the end will be saved.
10:23And whenever they persecute you in this city, flee to another; for truly I say to you, you will by no means finish going through the cities of Israel until the Son of Man comes.
10:24A disciple is not above the teacher, nor a slave above his lord.
10:25It is enough for the disciple that he become as his teacher, and the slave as his lord. If they called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more those of his household?
10:26Therefore do not fear them; for there is nothing hidden that will not be revealed, nor concealed that will not be known.
10:27What I tell you in the darkness, speak in the light; and what you hear whispered in your ear, proclaim upon the housetops.
10:28And do not fear those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul; rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in the Valley of Hinnom.
10:29Are not two sparrows sold for a small copper coin? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father.
10:30But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.
10:31Therefore do not fear; you are of greater worth than many sparrows.
10:32Therefore, everyone who confesses Me before men, I also will confess him before My Father who is in the heavens.
10:33But whoever denies Me before men, I also will deny him before My Father who is in the heavens.
10:34Do not suppose that I came to bring peace upon the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.
10:35For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;
10:36and a man’s enemies will be those of his household.
10:37He who loves father or mother above Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter above Me is not worthy of Me.
10:38And whoever does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.
10:39He who finds his life will lose it; and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.
10:40He who receives you receives Me; and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.
10:41He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward; and he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man will receive a righteous man’s reward.
10:42And whoever gives to one of these little ones only a cup of cold water to drink because he is a disciple, truly I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.”

Chapter 11

11:1And when Jesus had finished instructing His twelve disciples, He departed from there to teach and preach in their cities.
11:2And when John heard in prison of the works of the Anointed One, he sent two of his disciples
11:3and said to Him, “Are You the One who is to come, or do we look for another?”
11:4And Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and declare to John the things that you hear and see:
11:5the blind receive sight, and the lame walk; lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear; the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.
11:6And blessed is he who does not take offense at Me.”
11:7And as they were going, Jesus began to speak to the crowds concerning John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?
11:8But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Behold, those who wear soft garments are in kings’ houses.
11:9But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet.
11:10For this is he of whom it is written: ‘Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who will prepare Your way before You.’
11:11Truly I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Immerser; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
11:12And from the days of John the Immerser until now, the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and violent men seize it by force.
11:13For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John.
11:14And if you are willing to receive it, he is Elijah who is to come.
11:15He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
11:16But to what will I compare this generation? It is like little children sitting in marketplaces and calling to others,
11:17and saying, ‘We piped to you, and you did not dance; we lamented to you, and you did not mourn.’
11:18For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’
11:19The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Behold, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ Yet wisdom was justified by her children.”
11:20Then He began to reproach the cities in which most of His mighty works had been done, because they did not repent.
11:21“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would long ago have repented in sackcloth and ashes.
11:22But I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you.
11:23And you, Capernaum, who are exalted to Heaven, will be brought down to the realm of the dead; for if the mighty works done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained to this day.
11:24But I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment than for you.”
11:25At that time Jesus answered and said, “I praise You, Father, Lord of the heavens and of the earth, that You hid these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to little children.
11:26Yes, Father, for so it was pleasing in Your sight.
11:27All things were delivered to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and he to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him.
11:28Come to Me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.
11:29Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am meek and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls.
11:30For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.”

Chapter 12

12:1At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath; and His disciples were hungry and began to pluck heads of grain and eat.
12:2And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to Him, “Behold, Your disciples do what it is not lawful to do on the Sabbath.”
12:3But He said to them, “Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, he and those with him—
12:4how he entered the house of God and ate the bread of the Presence, which it was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those with him, but only for the priests?
12:5Or have you not read in the Law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath and are blameless?
12:6But I say to you that One greater than the temple is here.
12:7And if you had known what this means—‘Mercy I desire, and not sacrifice’—you would not have condemned the blameless.
12:8For the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”
12:9And departing from there, He went into their synagogue.
12:10And behold, there was a man with a withered hand. And they questioned Him, saying, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”—that they might accuse Him.
12:11And He said to them, “What man among you will have one sheep, and if it falls into a ditch on the Sabbath, will not take hold of it and lift it out?
12:12How much better, therefore, is a man than a sheep! So it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”
12:13Then He said to the man, “Stretch forth your hand.” And he stretched it forth, and it was restored whole like the other.
12:14And the Pharisees went forth and plotted against Him, how they might destroy Him.
12:15But Jesus, aware of this, withdrew from there; and great crowds followed Him, and He healed them all.
12:16And He charged them not to make Him known,
12:17that what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, saying,
12:18“Behold, My Servant, whom I chose; My Beloved, in whom My soul delights. I will put My Spirit upon Him, and He will declare justice to the nations.
12:19He will not strive nor cry, nor will anyone hear His voice in the streets.
12:20A bruised reed He will not break, and a smoldering wick He will not quench, until He brings forth justice to victory.
12:21And in His Name the nations will hope.”
12:22Then a man possessed by a demon, blind and mute, was brought to Him; and He healed him, so that the man both spoke and saw.
12:23And all the crowds were amazed and said, “Can this be the Son of David?”
12:24But the Pharisees, hearing, said, “This One does not cast out demons except by Beelzebul, ruler of the demons.”
12:25And Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste; and no city or house divided against itself will stand.
12:26And if Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand?
12:27And if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges.
12:28But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.
12:29Or how is one able to enter the strong man’s house and seize his possessions, unless he first binds the strong man? Then he will plunder his house.
12:30He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me scatters.
12:31Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven to men; but the blasphemy of the Spirit will not be forgiven to men.
12:32And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, neither in this age nor in that which is coming.
12:33Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for the tree is known by its fruit.
12:34Brood of vipers! How are you able to speak good things when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
12:35The good man out of the good treasure of the heart brings forth good things; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.
12:36And I say to you that every careless word men speak, they will give an account of it in the day of judgment.
12:37For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
12:38Then certain of the scribes and Pharisees answered, saying, “Teacher, we desire to see a sign from You.”
12:39But He answered and said to them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks a sign; and no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah the prophet.
12:40For as Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights, so the Son of Man will be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights.
12:41Men of Nineveh will stand up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the proclamation of Jonah; and behold, One greater than Jonah is here.
12:42A queen of the south will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, One greater than Solomon is here.
12:43And when the unclean spirit goes out from the man, it passes through dry places seeking rest, and does not find it.
12:44Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came out.’ And when it comes, it finds it empty, swept, and put in order.
12:45Then it goes and takes with itself seven other spirits more evil than itself; and when they enter, they dwell there. And the last state of that man becomes worse than the first. So will it also be with this evil generation.”
12:46And while He was still speaking to the crowds, behold, His mother and brothers stood outside, seeking to speak to Him.
12:47And one said to Him, “Behold, Your mother and Your brothers stand outside, seeking to speak to You.”
12:48But He answered and said to him who spoke to Him, “Who is My mother? And who are My brothers?”
12:49And stretching out His hand toward His disciples, He said, “Behold, My mother and My brothers!
12:50For whoever does the will of My Father who is in the heavens, he is My brother, and sister, and mother.”

Chapter 13

13:1And that same day Jesus went forth from the house and sat by the sea.
13:2And great crowds gathered to Him, so that He entered the boat and sat down; and all the crowd stood upon the shore.
13:3And He spoke many things to them in parables, saying, “Behold, the sower went forth to sow.
13:4And as he sowed, some indeed fell along the way, and the birds came and devoured them.
13:5And others fell upon rocky ground, where they did not have much soil; and immediately they sprang forth, because they had no depth of soil.
13:6And when the sun had risen, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered.
13:7And others fell among the thorns; and the thorns grew up and choked them.
13:8And others fell upon good ground and yielded fruit—some indeed a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty.
13:9He who has ears to hear—let him hear.”
13:10And the disciples came near and said to Him, “Why do You speak to them in parables?”
13:11And He answered and said to them, “To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.
13:12For whoever has, to him it will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.
13:13Therefore I speak to them in parables: because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.
13:14And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which says, ‘Hearing you will hear, and you will not understand; and seeing you will see, and you will not perceive.
13:15For the heart of this people has grown dull, and with their ears they scarcely hear, and they have closed their eyes, lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with the heart, and turn back, and I should heal them.’
13:16But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear.
13:17For truly I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it; and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.
13:18Hear, therefore, the parable of the sower:
13:19When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the one sown along the way.
13:20And the one sown upon rocky ground is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy;
13:21yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a time; and when tribulation or persecution comes because of the word, immediately he falls away.
13:22And the one sown among the thorns is he who hears the word; and the cares of this age and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.
13:23But the one sown upon the good ground is he who hears the word and understands, who indeed bears fruit and yields—some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty.”
13:24Another parable He set before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field.
13:25But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed weeds in the midst of the wheat, and went away.
13:26And when the blade sprang up and yielded fruit, then the weeds also appeared.
13:27And the slaves of the householder came near and said to him, ‘Lord, did you not sow good seed in your field? From where, then, did the weeds come?’
13:28And he said to them, ‘An enemy did this.’ And the slaves said to him, ‘Will you, then, have us go and gather them up?’
13:29But he said, ‘No, lest while gathering up the weeds you root up the wheat with them.
13:30Allow both to grow together until the harvest; and at the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, “Gather up first the weeds, and bind them in bundles to burn them; but gather the wheat into my storehouse.”’”
13:31Another parable He set before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field.
13:32It is indeed smaller than all the seeds; but when it is grown, it is larger than the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the sky come and rest in its branches.”
13:33Another parable He spoke to them: “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, until the whole was leavened.”
13:34All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables; and without a parable He spoke nothing to them,
13:35that what was spoken through the prophet might be fulfilled, saying, “I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden from the foundation of the world.”
13:36Then Jesus sent away the crowds and came into the house; and His disciples came near to Him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field.”
13:37And He answered and said to them, “He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man,
13:38The field is the world, and the good seed are the sons of the kingdom; but the weeds are the sons of the evil one.
13:39And the enemy who sowed them is the Devil, and the harvest is the completion of the age, and the reapers are angels.
13:40As, therefore, the weeds are gathered up and burned with fire, so it will be at the completion of this age.
13:41The Son of Man will send forth His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all stumbling-blocks, and those who practice lawlessness,
13:42and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
13:43Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear—let him hear.
13:44Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and in his joy he goes and sells all that he has, and buys that field.
13:45Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking fine pearls,
13:46who, when he found one pearl of great price, went away and sold all that he had, and bought it.
13:47Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was cast into the sea and gathered fish of every kind,
13:48which, when it was full, they drew up upon the shore; and sitting down, they gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away.
13:49So it will be at the completion of the age: the angels will come forth and separate the wicked from the midst of the righteous,
13:50and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
13:51Jesus said to them, “Did you understand all these things?” They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.”
13:52And He said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has become a disciple of the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure things new and old.”
13:53And when Jesus had finished these parables, He departed from there.
13:54And coming into His own country, He taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, “From where did this One receive this wisdom and these mighty works?
13:55Is this not the carpenter’s Son? Is His mother not called Mary, and His brothers James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?
13:56And His sisters—are they not all with us? From where, then, has this One all these things?”
13:57And they took offense at Him, and Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, and in his own house.”
13:58And He did not do many mighty works there, because of their unbelief.

Chapter 14

14:1At that time Herod, ruler of a fourth part, heard the fame of Jesus,
14:2and said to his servants, “This is John the Immerser. He has risen from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him.”
14:3For Herod had laid hold of John, bound him, and put him in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife.
14:4For John had said to him, “It is not lawful for you to have her.”
14:5And though he wished to kill him, he feared the crowd, because they regarded him as a prophet.
14:6But on Herod’s birthday, the daughter of Herodias danced before them and pleased Herod.
14:7Therefore he promised with an oath to give her whatever she might ask.
14:8And prompted by her mother, she said, “Give me here, upon a platter, the head of John the Immerser.”
14:9And the king was grieved, but because of his oaths and those dining with him, he commanded it to be given;
14:10and he sent and beheaded John in the prison.
14:11And his head was brought on a platter and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother.
14:12And his disciples came, took up the body, and buried it; and they went and told Jesus.
14:13And when Jesus heard this, He withdrew from there in a boat to a deserted place by Himself; and when the crowds heard, they followed Him on foot from the cities.
14:14And Jesus came forth, saw a great crowd, and was moved with compassion for them; and He healed their sick.
14:15And when evening came, His disciples came to Him, saying, “The place is deserted, and the hour is already late. Send away the crowds, that they may go into the villages and buy food for themselves.”
14:16But Jesus said to them, “They have no need to go away. You give them something to eat.”
14:17And they said to Him, “We have nothing here except five loaves and two fish.”
14:18And He said, “Bring them to Me here.”
14:19And commanding the crowds to sit upon the grass, He took the five loaves and the two fish; and looking up to the sky, He blessed. Then He broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds.
14:20And they all ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of the broken pieces that remained;
14:21And those who ate were about five thousand men, apart from women and children.
14:22And immediately Jesus made His disciples enter the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent away the crowds.
14:23And when He had sent away the crowds, He went up the mountain by Himself to pray; and when evening came, He was there alone.
14:24And the boat was already in the midst of the sea, buffeted by the waves, for the wind was contrary.
14:25And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking upon the sea.
14:26And the disciples, seeing Him walking upon the sea, were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out in fear.
14:27But immediately Jesus said to them, “Take courage! I AM; do not be afraid.”
14:28And Peter answered Him, saying, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the waters.”
14:29And He said, “Come.” And Peter went down from the boat and walked upon the waters toward Jesus.
14:30But seeing the strong wind, he was afraid; and as he began to sink, he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
14:31And immediately Jesus stretched forth His hand, took hold of him, and said to him, “You of little faith! Why did you waver?”
14:32And when they had entered the boat, the wind ceased.
14:33And those in the boat worshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God.”
14:34And after crossing over, they came into the land of Gennesaret,
14:35And when the men of that place recognized Him, they sent throughout all that surrounding region, and brought to Him all who were ill,
14:36and begged Him that they might only touch the fringe of His garment; and as many as touched it were healed.

Chapter 15

15:1Then scribes and Pharisees from Jerusalem came to Jesus, saying,
15:2“Why do Your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread.”
15:3And He answered and said to them, “Why do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition?
15:4For God commanded, saying, ‘Honor your father and mother,’ and, ‘Whoever speaks evil of father or mother must surely die.’
15:5But you say, ‘Whoever says to father or mother, “Whatever benefit you might have received from me is an offering,”
15:6then he need not honor his father or his mother.’ Thus you set aside the word of God because of your tradition.
15:7Hypocrites! Isaiah prophesied well concerning you, saying,
15:8‘This people draws near to Me with their mouth, and honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me;
15:9and in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’”
15:10And He called the crowd near and said to them, “Hear and understand:
15:11It is not what enters the mouth that defiles the man; but what comes forth from the mouth—this defiles the man.”
15:12Then His disciples came near and said to Him, “Do You know that the Pharisees took offense when they heard the word?”
15:13And He answered and said, “Every plant that My heavenly Father did not plant will be rooted up;
15:14Leave them alone. They are blind guides of the blind; and if the blind guide the blind, both will fall into a ditch.”
15:15And Peter answered and said to Him, “Explain to us this parable.”
15:16And Jesus said, “Are you still without understanding?
15:17Do you not understand that all that enters the mouth passes into the stomach, and is cast out into the latrine?
15:18But the things coming forth from the mouth come forth from the heart, and these defile the man;
15:19For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual immorality, thefts, false testimonies, and slanders.
15:20These are the things that defile the man; but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile the man.”
15:21And Jesus went forth from there and withdrew to the regions of Tyre and Sidon.
15:22And behold, a Canaanite woman came out from that region and cried to Him, saying, “Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely possessed by a demon.”
15:23But He did not answer her a word. And His disciples came and asked Him, saying, “Send her away, for she cries after us.”
15:24And He answered and said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”
15:25But she came and bowed before Him, saying, “Lord, help me.”
15:26And He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread, and to cast to the little dogs.”
15:27And she said, “Yes, Lord; yet even the little dogs eat from the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.”
15:28Then Jesus answered and said to her, “Woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that hour.
15:29And departing from there, Jesus went along the Sea of Galilee; and ascending the mountain, He sat there.
15:30And great crowds came to Him, bringing with them the lame, blind, mute, maimed, and many others; and they placed them at the feet of Jesus, and He healed them,
15:31so that the crowds marveled, seeing the mute speaking, the maimed made whole, the lame walking, and the blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel.
15:32And Jesus called His disciples near and said, “I have compassion on the crowd, because they have now remained with Me for three days and have nothing to eat; and I am unwilling to send them away fasting, lest they collapse on the way.”
15:33And His disciples said to Him, “Where can we obtain so many loaves in this wilderness as to fill so great a crowd?”
15:34And Jesus said to them, “How many loaves do you have?” And they said, “Seven, and a few little fish.”
15:35And He commanded the crowds to sit down on the ground.
15:36And taking the seven loaves and the fish, He gave thanks, broke them, and gave them to His disciples; and the disciples gave them to the crowd.
15:37And they all ate and were filled, and they took up seven baskets full of the broken pieces that remained.
15:38And those who ate were four thousand men, apart from women and children.
15:39And when He had sent away the crowds, He entered the boat and came to the region of Magdala.

Chapter 16

16:1And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, testing Him, and asked Him to show them a sign from Heaven.
16:2And He answered and said to them, “When evening comes, you say, ‘Fair weather, for the sky is red.’
16:3And in the morning, ‘Foul weather today, for the sky is red and gloomy.’ Hypocrites! You indeed know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but you are not able to discern the signs of the times.
16:4An evil and adulterous generation seeks a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah the prophet.” And He left them and went away.
16:5And His disciples came to the other side, but they had forgotten to take bread.
16:6And Jesus said to them, “Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”
16:7And they were discussing among themselves, saying, “Because we took no bread.”
16:8And Jesus knew this and said to them, “Why do you reason among yourselves, you of little faith, because you took no bread?
16:9Do you not yet understand, nor remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets you took up?
16:10Nor the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets you took up?
16:11How do you not understand that I was not speaking to you about bread? But beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”
16:12Then they understood that He did not say to beware of the leaven in bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
16:13And when Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”
16:14And they said, “Some say John the Immerser; others, Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.”
16:15He said to them, “But you—who do you say that I am?”
16:16And Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Anointed One, the Son of the living God.”
16:17And Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, because flesh and blood did not reveal it to you, but My Father who is in the heavens.
16:18And I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My assembly; and the gates of the realm of the dead will not prevail against it.
16:19And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind upon the earth will have been bound in the heavens, and whatever you loose upon the earth will have been loosed in the heavens.”
16:20Then He charged His disciples to tell no one that He was Jesus the Anointed One.
16:21From that time Jesus began to show His disciples that it was necessary for Him to go to Jerusalem, and to suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and to be put to death, and on the third day to rise.
16:22And taking Him aside, Peter began to rebuke Him, saying, “Far be it from You, Lord; this shall never happen to You.”
16:23But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling-block to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but of the things of men.”
16:24Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wills to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.
16:25For whoever wills to save his life will lose it; and whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.
16:26For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world but forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
16:27For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father, with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his work.
16:28Truly I say to you, there are certain of those standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.”

Chapter 17

17:1And after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother John, and led them up a high mountain by themselves.
17:2And His form was changed before them; His face shone as the sun, and His garments became white as the light.
17:3And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking together with Him.
17:4And Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If You will, let us make three shelters here: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
17:5While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and behold, a voice out of the cloud said, “This is My Son, the Beloved, in whom I delight. Hear Him.”
17:6And the disciples, hearing, fell upon their faces and were exceedingly afraid.
17:7And Jesus came near, touched them, and said, “Rise, and do not be afraid.”
17:8And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one except Jesus alone.
17:9And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, “Tell no one the vision until the Son of Man is raised from the dead.”
17:10And His disciples questioned Him, saying, “Why, then, do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
17:11And Jesus answered and said to them, “Elijah does indeed come first, and will restore all things,
17:12But I say to you that Elijah already came, and they did not know him, but did with him whatever they wished. So also the Son of Man is about to suffer at their hands.”
17:13Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them concerning John the Immerser.
17:14And when they came to the crowd, there came to Him a man, kneeling down to Him,
17:15and saying, “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he suffers seizures and is grievously afflicted; for he often falls into the fire, and often into the water.
17:16And I brought him to Your disciples, and they could not heal him.”
17:17And Jesus answered and said, “O unbelieving and perverse generation, how long will I be with you? How long will I bear with you? Bring him here to Me.”
17:18And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it went out of him, and the boy was healed from that hour.
17:19Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why were we not able to cast him out?”
17:20And Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for truly I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible to you.
17:21And this kind does not go forth except in prayer and fasting.”
17:22And while they remained in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is about to be delivered up into the hands of men,
17:23and they will kill Him, and on the third day He will rise.” And they were exceedingly grieved.
17:24And when they came to Capernaum, the collectors of the temple tax came to Peter and said, “Does your Teacher not pay the temple tax?” He said, “Yes.”
17:25And when he came into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, “What do you think, Simon? The kings of the earth—from whom do they take custom or poll-tax? From their sons or from others?”
17:26Peter said to Him, “From others.” Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are free;
17:27But that we may not cause them to stumble, go to the sea and cast a hook; and take up the first fish that comes. And when you have opened its mouth, you will find a silver coin. Take it and give it to them for Me and you.”

Chapter 18

18:1At that hour the disciples came near to Jesus, saying, “Who, then, is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”
18:2And Jesus called a child to Him and set him in their midst,
18:3and said, “Truly I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.
18:4Whoever therefore humbles himself like this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
18:5And whoever receives one such child in My Name receives Me.
18:6And whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it is better for him that a great millstone be hung around his neck and that he be sunk in the depth of the sea.
18:7Woe to the world because of stumbling-blocks! For stumbling-blocks must come, but woe to that man through whom the stumbling-block comes!
18:8And if your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and cast it from you; it is good for you to enter into life lame or maimed, rather than to have two hands or two feet and be cast into the eternal fire.
18:9And if your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and cast it from you; it is better for you to enter into life with one eye than to have two eyes and be cast into the fiery Valley of Hinnom.
18:10See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in the heavens always behold the face of My Father who is in the heavens.
18:11For the Son of Man came to save the lost.
18:12What do you think? If a man has one hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine upon the mountains and go and seek the one that has gone astray?
18:13And if he finds it, truly I say to you that he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that have not gone astray.
18:14So it is not the will of your Father who is in the heavens that one of these little ones should perish.
18:15And if your brother sins against you, go and show him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother.
18:16But if he does not hear, take with you one or two more, that by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.
18:17And if he does not hear them, tell it to the assembly; and if he refuses to hear even the assembly, let him be to you as one of the nations and a tax collector.
18:18Truly I say to you, whatever things you bind upon the earth will have been bound in the heavens, and whatever things you loose upon the earth will have been loosed in the heavens.
18:19Again I say to you that if two of you agree upon the earth concerning anything they ask, it will be done for them by My Father who is in the heavens.
18:20For where two or three are gathered together in My Name, there am I in their midst.”
18:21Then Peter came near to Him and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and how often shall I forgive him? Up to seven times?”
18:22Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.
18:23Therefore the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his slaves.
18:24And when he began to settle accounts, one was brought to him who owed ten thousand talents.
18:25And because he had nothing with which to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, along with his wife, his children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.
18:26Then the slave fell before him and pleaded, saying, ‘Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay you all.’
18:27And the lord of that slave was moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt.
18:28But that slave went out and found one of his fellow slaves who owed him one hundred days’ wages; and seizing him, he took him by the throat, saying, ‘Pay me what you owe.’
18:29Then his fellow slave fell at his feet and begged him, saying, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you all.’
18:30But he would not; instead, he went and cast him into prison until he should pay what was owed.
18:31And when his fellow slaves saw what had been done, they were exceedingly grieved; and they came and told their lord all that had happened.
18:32Then his lord called him and said to him, ‘Evil slave! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me.
18:33Should you not also have shown mercy to your fellow slave, as I showed mercy to you?’
18:34And in anger his lord delivered him to the tormentors until he should pay all that was owed to him.
18:35So also My heavenly Father will do to you, if each of you does not forgive his brother his trespasses from his heart.”

Chapter 19

19:1And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these words, that He departed from Galilee and came into the region of Judea beyond the Jordan.
19:2And great crowds followed Him, and He healed them there.
19:3And the Pharisees drew near to Him, testing Him, and saying, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any cause?”
19:4And He answered and said to them, “Did you not read that He who made them from the beginning made them male and female,
19:5and said, ‘For this cause a man will leave father and mother and cling to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’?
19:6So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God joined together, let no man separate.”
19:7They said to Him, “Why then did Moses command that a certificate of divorce be given, and that she be sent away?”
19:8He said to them, “Moses, because of your hardness of heart, permitted you to divorce your wives; but from the beginning it was not so.
19:9And I say to you that whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another commits adultery; and he who marries her who has been divorced commits adultery.”
19:10His disciples said to Him, “If such is the case of a man with his wife, it is not good to marry.”
19:11And He said to them, “Not all receive this saying, but only those to whom it has been given.
19:12For there are eunuchs who were born so from their mother’s womb; and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men; and there are eunuchs who made themselves eunuchs because of the kingdom of heaven. He who is able to receive it—let him receive it.”
19:13Then children were brought to Him, that He might lay His hands on them and pray; and the disciples rebuked them.
19:14But Jesus said, “Let the children come to Me, and do not forbid them, for of such is the kingdom of heaven.”
19:15And He laid His hands upon them and departed from there.
19:16And behold, one came near and said to Him, “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?”
19:17And He said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good except One—God; but if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.”
19:18He said to Him, “Which ones?” And Jesus said, “You shall not murder; you shall not commit adultery; you shall not steal; you shall not bear false witness;
19:19Honor your father and mother, and, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
19:20The young man said to Him, “All these I have kept from my youth; what do I still lack?”
19:21Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be perfect, go, sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in Heaven; and come, follow Me.”
19:22And when the young man heard the word, he went away sorrowful, for he had many possessions.
19:23And Jesus said to His disciples, “Truly I say to you that a rich man will enter the kingdom of heaven with difficulty.
19:24And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.”
19:25And when His disciples heard this, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, “Who, then, can be saved?”
19:26And Jesus looked intently at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
19:27Then Peter answered and said to Him, “Behold, we left all and followed You. What then will we have?”
19:28And Jesus said to them, “Truly I say to you that you who followed Me—in the renewal, when the Son of Man sits upon the throne of His glory—you also will sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
19:29And everyone who has left houses, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or fields, for My Name’s sake, will receive a hundredfold, and will inherit eternal life.
19:30And many first will be last, and last first.”

Chapter 20

20:1“For the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard.
20:2And when he had agreed with the workers for a day’s wage, he sent them into his vineyard.
20:3And going out about the third hour, he saw others standing idle in the marketplace,
20:4and said to them, ‘You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you.’
20:5And they went. Again he went out about the sixth and the ninth hour, and did likewise.
20:6And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing idle, and said to them, ‘Why have you stood here idle all day?’
20:7They said to him, ‘Because no one hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right you will receive.’
20:8And when evening came, the lord of the vineyard said to his steward, ‘Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last and ending with the first.’
20:9And those hired about the eleventh hour came, and each received a day’s wage.
20:10And when the first came, they supposed that they would receive more; but they likewise received a day’s wage each.
20:11And when they received it, they grumbled against the householder,
20:12saying, ‘These last worked only one hour, and you made them equal to us, who bore the burden and heat of the day.’
20:13But he answered one of them and said, ‘Friend, I do you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a day’s wage?
20:14Take what is yours and go. I wish to give to this last one also as I gave to you.
20:15Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with my own? Or is your eye evil because I am good?’
20:16So the last will be first, and the first last, for many are called, and few chosen.”
20:17And as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, He took the twelve disciples aside on the way and said to them,
20:18“Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and scribes,
20:19and they will condemn Him to death, and will deliver Him to the nations to mock, scourge, and crucify; and on the third day He will rise again.”
20:20Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came near to Him with her sons, bowing before Him and asking something from Him.
20:21And He said to her, “What do you desire?” She said to Him, “Grant that these two sons of mine may sit, one on Your right hand and one on Your left, in Your kingdom.”
20:22And Jesus answered and said, “You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink, and to undergo the immersion that I undergo?” They said to Him, “We are able.”
20:23And He said to them, “You will indeed drink My cup and undergo My immersion; but to sit on My right hand and on My left is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by My Father.”
20:24And when the ten heard this, they were much displeased with the two brothers.
20:25And Jesus called them near and said, “You know that the rulers of the nations exercise lordship over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them.
20:26But it shall not be so among you; rather, whoever wishes to become great among you, let him be your servant;
20:27and whoever wishes to be first among you, let him be your slave;
20:28Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”
20:29And as they went out from Jericho, a great crowd followed Him.
20:30And behold, two blind men sitting by the road, when they heard that Jesus was passing by, cried out, saying, “Have mercy on us, Lord, Son of David!”
20:31And the crowd rebuked them, that they might be silent; but they cried out all the more, saying, “Have mercy on us, Lord, Son of David!”
20:32And Jesus stood still, called them, and said, “What do you wish Me to do for you?”
20:33They said to Him, “Lord, that our eyes may be opened.”
20:34And moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes; and immediately they received sight, and they followed Him.

Chapter 21

21:1And when they drew near to Jerusalem and came to Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples,
21:2saying to them, “Go into the village before you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Loose them and bring them to Me.
21:3And if anyone says anything to you, say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.”
21:4And all this came to pass, that what was spoken through the prophet might be fulfilled, saying,
21:5“Tell the daughter of Zion, Behold, your King comes to you, meek, and mounted on a donkey, and a colt, a foal of a beast of burden.”
21:6And the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them.
21:7They brought the donkey and the colt, laid their garments upon them, and He sat upon the garments.
21:8And the very great crowd spread their garments on the road; others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.
21:9And the crowds who were going before and who were following were crying out, saying, “Save us, we pray, O Son of David! Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord! Save us, we pray, in the highest!”
21:10And when He entered Jerusalem, all the city was stirred, saying, “Who is this?”
21:11And the crowds said, “This is Jesus the prophet, who is from Nazareth of Galilee.”
21:12And Jesus entered the temple of God and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple; and He overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold doves.
21:13And He said to them, “It is written: My house will be called a house of prayer; but you have made it a den of robbers.”
21:14And blind and lame men came to Him in the temple, and He healed them.
21:15And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying in the temple and saying, “Save us, we pray, O Son of David,” they were much displeased.
21:16And they said to Him, “Do You hear what these are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes. Did you never read, ‘Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies You prepared praise’?”
21:17And leaving them, He went out of the city to Bethany and spent the night there.
21:18And in the morning, as He returned to the city, He was hungry.
21:19And seeing a fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it except leaves only; and He said to it, “May no fruit ever come from you again.” And immediately the fig tree withered.
21:20And when the disciples saw this, they marveled, saying, “How did the fig tree wither so quickly?”
21:21And Jesus answered and said to them, “Truly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will do not only what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and cast into the sea,’ it will come to pass.
21:22And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”
21:23And when He came into the temple, the chief priests and elders of the people came to Him as He was teaching, saying, “By what authority do You do these things? And who gave You this authority?”
21:24And Jesus answered and said to them, “I also will ask you one thing, which if you tell Me, I also will tell you by what authority I do these things:
21:25The immersion of John—from where was it? From Heaven, or from men?” And they reasoned among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From Heaven,’ He will say to us, ‘Why, then, did you not believe him?’
21:26But if we say, ‘From men,’ we fear the crowd, for all regard John as a prophet.”
21:27And they answered Jesus and said, “We do not know.” He also said to them, “Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.
21:28But what do you think? A man had two children; and coming to the first, he said, ‘Child, go and work today in my vineyard.’
21:29And he answered and said, ‘I will not’; but afterward he regretted it and went.
21:30And coming to the second, he said likewise. And he answered and said, ‘I go, lord,’ but did not go.
21:31Which of the two did the will of the father?” They said to Him, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Truly I say to you that tax collectors and prostitutes go before you into the kingdom of God.
21:32For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him; but the tax collectors and prostitutes believed him. And even after seeing this, you did not afterward regret it and believe him.
21:33Hear another parable: There was a certain householder who planted a vineyard, put a hedge around it, dug a winepress in it, built a tower, leased it to farmers, and went abroad.
21:34And when the season of fruit drew near, he sent his slaves to the farmers to receive its fruit.
21:35And the farmers took his slaves; one they beat, another they killed, and another they stoned.
21:36Again he sent other slaves, more than the first, and they did the same to them.
21:37And last of all he sent his son to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’
21:38But when the farmers saw the son, they said among themselves, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and seize his inheritance.’
21:39And they took him, cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him.
21:40Therefore, when the lord of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those farmers?”
21:41They said to Him, “He will bring those evil men to an evil end, and will lease the vineyard to other farmers who will give him its fruit in their seasons.”
21:42Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: ‘The stone which the builders rejected became the chief cornerstone; this came from the Lord, and it is wonderful in our eyes’?
21:43Therefore I say to you that the kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a nation bearing its fruits.
21:44And he who falls upon this stone will be broken; but upon whomever it falls, it will crush him to pieces.”
21:45And when the chief priests and Pharisees heard His parables, they knew that He spoke of them.
21:46And seeking to seize Him, they feared the crowds, because the crowds regarded Him as a prophet.

Chapter 22

22:1And Jesus answered and again spoke to them in parables, saying,
22:2“The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who made a wedding feast for his son.
22:3And he sent forth his slaves to call those who had been invited to the wedding feast, but they were not willing to come.
22:4Again he sent forth other slaves, saying, ‘Tell those who have been invited: Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fattened cattle have been killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding feast.’
22:5But they paid no attention and went away, one to his own field and another to his business.
22:6And the rest seized his slaves, mistreated them, and killed them.
22:7And when the king heard, he was angry; and he sent forth his soldiers, destroyed those murderers, and set their city on fire.
22:8Then he said to his slaves, ‘The wedding feast indeed is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy.
22:9Go, therefore, to the crossroads, and invite to the wedding feast as many as you find.’
22:10And those slaves went out into the ways and gathered all whom they found, both bad and good; and the wedding hall was filled with guests.
22:11And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man not clothed in a wedding garment.
22:12And he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless.
22:13Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind his hands and feet, and cast him into the outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
22:14For many are called, and few chosen.”
22:15Then the Pharisees went and took counsel how they might ensnare Him in His words.
22:16And they sent their disciples to Him with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that You are true, and that You teach the way of God in truth; and You show partiality to no one, for You do not regard the face of men.
22:17Tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay tax to Caesar or not?”
22:18But Jesus, knowing their wickedness, said, “Why do you test Me, hypocrites?
22:19Show Me the tax coin.” And they brought Him a silver coin.
22:20And He said to them, “Whose is this image and the inscription?”
22:21They said to Him, “Caesar’s.” Then He said to them, “Render therefore the things of Caesar to Caesar, and the things of God to God.”
22:22And when they heard this, they marveled; and leaving Him, they went away.
22:23On that day Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came near to Him and questioned Him, saying,
22:24“Teacher, Moses said that if anyone dies childless, his brother shall marry his wife and raise up seed for his brother.
22:25Now there were with us seven brothers. The first married and died; and having no offspring, he left his wife to his brother.
22:26Likewise also the second, and the third, down to the seventh.
22:27And last of all, the woman also died.
22:28Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife will she be of the seven? For they all had her.”
22:29And Jesus answered and said to them, “You err, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God.
22:30For in the resurrection they do not marry, nor are they given in marriage, but are like the angels of God in Heaven.
22:31And concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God, saying,
22:32‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? God is not God of the dead, but of the living.”
22:33And when the crowds heard this, they were astonished at His teaching.
22:34But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together.
22:35And one of them, an expert in the Law, questioned Him, testing Him, and saying,
22:36“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?”
22:37And Jesus said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.
22:38This is the first and great commandment.
22:39And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
22:40On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
22:41And while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus questioned them,
22:42saying, “What do you think concerning the Anointed One? Whose Son is He?” They said to Him, “David’s.”
22:43He said to them, “How then does David in the Spirit call Him Lord, saying,
22:44‘The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at My right hand, until I make Your enemies Your footstool’?
22:45If David therefore calls Him Lord, how is He his Son?”
22:46And no one was able to answer Him a word, nor did anyone dare question Him from that day on.

Chapter 23

23:1Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to His disciples,
23:2saying, “The scribes and Pharisees sit upon the seat of Moses.
23:3Therefore, whatever they tell you to observe, observe and do; but do not do according to their works, for they say and do not.
23:4For they bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them upon the shoulders of men; but they will not move them with their finger.
23:5And all their works they do to be seen by men; they broaden their scripture cases and enlarge the fringes of their garments.
23:6They love the places of honor at banquets, and the chief seats in the synagogues,
23:7and greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called by men, ‘Teacher, Teacher.’
23:8But you shall not be called Teacher, for One is your Teacher—the Anointed One—and you are all brothers.
23:9And call no one your father upon the earth, for One is your Father, who is in the heavens.
23:10Nor shall you be called instructors, for One is your Instructor—the Anointed One.
23:11And the greatest among you will be your servant.
23:12And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
23:13Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut the kingdom of heaven before men; you neither enter yourselves, nor do you allow those who would enter to go in.
23:14Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater judgment.
23:15Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel sea and land to make one convert; and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of the Valley of Hinnom as yourselves.
23:16Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ‘Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple is bound by his oath.’
23:17Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifies the gold?
23:18And, ‘Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is upon it is bound by his oath.’
23:19Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifies the gift?
23:20Therefore he who swears by the altar swears by it and by all things upon it.
23:21And he who swears by the temple swears by it and by Him who dwells in it.
23:22And he who swears by Heaven swears by the throne of God and by Him who sits upon it.
23:23Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you give a tenth of mint, dill, and cumin, and have neglected the weightier things of the Law—justice, mercy, and faithfulness. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others.
23:24Blind guides! You strain out the gnat and swallow the camel.
23:25Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and the plate, but within they are full of robbery and self-indulgence.
23:26Blind Pharisee! First cleanse the inside of the cup and the plate, that the outside of them may also become clean.
23:27Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly indeed appear beautiful, but within are full of the bones of dead men and of all uncleanness.
23:28So also you outwardly indeed appear righteous to men, but within you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.
23:29Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the graves of the righteous,
23:30and say, ‘If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have joined them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’
23:31Thus you testify against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets.
23:32Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers.
23:33Serpents! Brood of vipers! How will you escape the sentence of the Valley of Hinnom?
23:34Therefore, behold, I send to you prophets, wise men, and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify; and some you will scourge in your synagogues and pursue from city to city,
23:35that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.
23:36Truly I say to you, all these things will come on this generation.
23:37Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you! How often I wished to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.
23:38Behold, your house is left to you desolate.
23:39For I say to you, you will not see Me from now on until you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord.’”

Chapter 24

24:1And Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and His disciples came near to show Him the buildings of the temple.
24:2And Jesus said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Truly I say to you, not one stone will be left here upon another that will not be thrown down.”
24:3And as He sat upon the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what is the sign of Your coming, and of the completion of the age?”
24:4And Jesus answered and said to them, “See that no one leads you astray.
24:5For many will come in My Name, saying, ‘I am the Anointed One,’ and they will lead many astray.
24:6And you will hear of wars and reports of wars. See that you are not troubled, for all these things must come to pass; but the end is not yet.
24:7For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in various places;
24:8And all these are the beginning of birth pains.
24:9Then they will deliver you up to tribulation, and will kill you, and you will be hated by all the nations because of My Name;
24:10Then many will fall away, and they will deliver up one another, and will hate one another.
24:11And many false prophets will arise, and will lead many astray;
24:12And because lawlessness increases, the love of many will grow cold.
24:13But he who endures to the end will be saved.
24:14And this good news of the kingdom will be proclaimed in all the world, for a testimony to all the nations; and then the end will come.
24:15Therefore, when you see the abomination of desolation, which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place—whoever reads, let him understand—
24:16Then those in Judea—let them flee to the mountains;
24:17let him who is upon the housetop not come down to take anything out of his house;
24:18and let him who is in the field not turn back to take his garment.
24:19And woe to those who are pregnant, and to those nursing in those days!
24:20And pray that your flight may not be in winter, nor on a Sabbath.
24:21For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will be.
24:22And if those days were not shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the sake of the chosen, those days will be shortened.
24:23Then if anyone says to you, ‘Behold, here is the Anointed One!’ or, ‘Here!’ do not believe it.
24:24For false anointed ones and false prophets will arise, and they will give great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the chosen.
24:25Behold, I told you beforehand.
24:26Therefore, if they say to you, ‘Behold, He is in the wilderness,’ do not go forth; or, ‘Behold, He is in the inner chambers,’ do not believe it.
24:27For as the lightning comes forth from the east and shines as far as the west, so also will be the coming of the Son of Man.
24:28For wherever the carcass may be, there the eagles will be gathered together.
24:29And immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give her light, and the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken;
24:30Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn; and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of Heaven, with power and great glory.
24:31And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His chosen from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.
24:32And learn the parable from the fig tree: when its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near.
24:33So also you, when you see all these things, know that it is near—at the doors.
24:34Truly I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away until all these things come to pass.
24:35Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.
24:36But concerning that day and hour no one knows—not even the angels of the heavens—but My Father alone.
24:37For as the days of Noah were, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
24:38For as in the days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered the Ark,
24:39And they did not know until the flood came and took them all away; so also will be the coming of the Son of Man.
24:40Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken, and one will be left.
24:41Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken, and one will be left.
24:42Watch therefore, for you do not know in what hour your Lord comes.
24:43But know this: if the master of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched and would not have permitted his house to be broken into.
24:44Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man comes at an hour when you do not think.
24:45Who, then, is the faithful and wise slave whom his lord set over his household, to give them food at the proper time?
24:46Blessed is that slave whom his lord, when he comes, will find doing so.
24:47Truly I say to you that he will set him over all his possessions.
24:48But if that evil slave says in his heart, ‘My lord delays his coming,’
24:49and begins to beat his fellow slaves, and to eat and drink with the drunken,
24:50the lord of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect him, and at an hour he does not know,
24:51and will cut him in two and appoint his portion with the hypocrites; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

Chapter 25

25:1“Then the kingdom of heaven will be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went forth to meet the bridegroom.
25:2And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
25:3Those who were foolish took their lamps, but took no oil with them.
25:4But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
25:5And while the bridegroom delayed, they all became drowsy and slept.
25:6And at midnight a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom comes! Go forth to meet him!’
25:7Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps.
25:8And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’
25:9But the wise answered, saying, ‘There may not be enough for us and for you. Go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’
25:10And while they went away to buy, the bridegroom came; and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast, and the door was shut.
25:11Afterward the other virgins also came, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us.’
25:12But he answered and said, ‘Truly I say to you, I do not know you.’
25:13Watch therefore, for you do not know the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man comes.
25:14For it is like a man going abroad, who called his own slaves and entrusted his possessions to them.
25:15And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one—to each according to his own ability—and immediately went abroad.
25:16And he who received the five talents went and worked with them, and gained five more.
25:17Likewise, he who received the two gained two more.
25:18But he who received the one went away, dug in the earth, and hid his lord’s money.
25:19And after a long time, the lord of those slaves came and settled accounts with them.
25:20And he who received the five talents came and brought five more talents, saying, ‘Lord, you delivered five talents to me; behold, I gained five more besides them.’
25:21And his lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful over a few things; I will set you over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’
25:22And he who received the two talents also came and said, ‘Lord, you delivered two talents to me; behold, I gained two more besides them.’
25:23His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful over a few things; I will set you over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’
25:24Then he who had received the one talent also came and said, ‘Lord, I knew that you are a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering from where you did not scatter.
25:25And because I was afraid, I went and hid your talent in the earth. Behold, you have what is yours.’
25:26And his lord answered and said to him, ‘Evil and slothful slave! You knew that I reap where I did not sow, and gather from where I did not scatter.
25:27Therefore you ought to have put my money with the bankers, and when I came I would have received my own with interest.
25:28Therefore take the talent from him, and give it to him who has the ten talents.
25:29For to everyone who has, it will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.
25:30And cast the worthless slave into the outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
25:31And when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit upon the throne of His glory.
25:32And all the nations will be gathered together before Him, and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats,
25:33And He will set the sheep on His right hand, and the goats on the left.
25:34Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
25:35For I was hungry, and you gave Me food; I thirsted, and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger, and you welcomed Me;
25:36I was naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.
25:37Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You? Or thirsty and give You drink?
25:38And when did we see You a stranger and welcome You? Or naked and clothe You?
25:39And when did we see You sick or in prison and come to You?’
25:40And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brothers, you did it to Me.’
25:41Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the Devil and his angels.
25:42For I was hungry, and you gave Me no food; I thirsted, and you gave Me no drink;
25:43I was a stranger, and you did not welcome Me; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick and in prison, and you did not visit Me.’
25:44Then they also will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not serve You?’
25:45Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Truly I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’
25:46And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

Chapter 26

26:1And when Jesus had finished all these words, He said to His disciples,
26:2“You know that after two days the Passover comes, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified.”
26:3Then the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders of the people gathered in the court of the chief priest, who was called Caiaphas;
26:4and they plotted together to take Jesus by deceit and kill Him.
26:5But they said, “Not during the feast, lest there be an uproar among the people.”
26:6And when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,
26:7a woman came to Him with an alabaster jar of very costly perfume, and poured it upon His head as He reclined.
26:8But when His disciples saw it, they were greatly displeased, saying, “Why this waste?
26:9For this perfume could have been sold for much and given to the poor.”
26:10But Jesus, knowing this, said to them, “Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a good work for Me.
26:11For you always have the poor with you, but you will not always have Me.
26:12For in pouring this perfume upon My body, she did it for My burial.
26:13Truly I say to you, wherever this good news is proclaimed in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be spoken of, in memory of her.”
26:14Then one of the Twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests
26:15and said, “What are you willing to give me, that I may deliver Him up to you?” And they weighed out to him thirty pieces of silver.
26:16And from that time he sought an opportunity to deliver Him up.
26:17Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Where do You wish us to prepare for You to eat the Passover?”
26:18And He said, “Go into the city to a certain man, and say to him, ‘The Teacher says, My time is near; I will keep the Passover at your house with My disciples.’”
26:19And the disciples did as Jesus directed them, and prepared the Passover.
26:20And when evening came, He reclined with the Twelve.
26:21And while they were eating, He said, “Truly I say to you, one of you will deliver Me up.”
26:22And they were exceedingly grieved, and each of them began to say to Him, “Is it I, Lord?”
26:23And He answered and said, “He who dipped his hand with Me in the dish will deliver Me up.
26:24The Son of Man indeed goes, as it is written concerning Him; but woe to that man through whom the Son of Man is delivered up! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born.”
26:25And Judas, who was delivering Him up, answered and said, “Is it I, Teacher?” He said to him, “You have said it.”
26:26And while they were eating, Jesus took bread and blessed it; and breaking it, He gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.”
26:27And He took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you;
26:28for this is My blood of the New Covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
26:29And I say to you, I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in the kingdom of My Father.”
26:30And when they had sung a hymn, they went forth to the Mount of Olives.
26:31Then Jesus said to them, “All of you will stumble because of Me this night; for it is written: ‘I will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’
26:32But after I have risen, I will go before you into Galilee.”
26:33But Peter answered and said to Him, “Even if all stumble because of You, I will never stumble.”
26:34Jesus said to him, “Truly I say to you, this night, before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.”
26:35Peter said to Him, “Even if I must die with You, I will not deny You.” And all the disciples said likewise.
26:36Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to the disciples, “Sit here while I go there and pray.”
26:37And taking Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed.
26:38Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Remain here, and watch with Me.”
26:39And going a little farther, He fell upon His face, praying and saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.”
26:40And He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “So, you could not watch with Me one hour?
26:41Watch and pray, that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
26:42Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, “My Father, if this cup cannot pass from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done.”
26:43And He came and found them sleeping again, for their eyes were heavy.
26:44And leaving them, He went away again and prayed a third time, saying the same words.
26:45Then He came to His disciples and said to them, “Sleep on now, and rest. Behold, the hour has drawn near, and the Son of Man is delivered up into the hands of sinners.
26:46Rise, let us go. Behold, he who delivers Me up has drawn near.”
26:47And while He was still speaking, behold, Judas, one of the Twelve, came, and with him a great crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and elders of the people.
26:48Now he who delivered Him up had given them a sign, saying, “Whomever I kiss, He is the One; seize Him.”
26:49And immediately he came to Jesus and said, “Greetings, Teacher,” and kissed Him.
26:50And Jesus said to him, “Friend, do what you came for.” Then they came near, laid hands on Jesus, and seized Him.
26:51And behold, one of those with Jesus stretched out his hand, drew his sword, and struck the slave of the chief priest, cutting off his ear.
26:52Then Jesus said to him, “Return your sword to its place; for all who take the sword will perish by the sword.
26:53Do you think that I cannot now call upon My Father, and He will at once place beside Me more than twelve legions of angels?
26:54How then would the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must happen in this way?”
26:55In that hour Jesus said to the crowds, “Have you come forth as against a robber, with swords and clubs to take Me? Daily I sat with you, teaching in the temple, and you did not seize Me.
26:56But all this has come to pass that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples left Him and fled.
26:57And those who had seized Jesus led Him away to Caiaphas the chief priest, where the scribes and the elders were gathered.
26:58But Peter followed Him from afar, as far as the courtyard of the chief priest; and going inside, he sat with the officers to see the outcome.
26:59And the chief priests, the elders, and the whole council sought false testimony against Jesus, that they might put Him to death,
26:60but they found none. And though many false witnesses came forward, they found none. At last two false witnesses came forward
26:61and said, “This One said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and build it in three days.’”
26:62And the chief priest stood up and said to Him, “Do You answer nothing? What is it that these testify against You?”
26:63But Jesus was silent. And the chief priest answered and said to Him, “I put You under oath by the living God: tell us whether You are the Anointed One, the Son of God.”
26:64Jesus said to him, “You have said it. Nevertheless, I say to you: from now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power and coming upon the clouds of Heaven.”
26:65Then the chief priest tore his garments, saying, “He has blasphemed! What further need do we have of witnesses? Behold, now you have heard His blasphemy.
26:66What do you think?” And they answered and said, “He is worthy of death.”
26:67Then they spit in His face and struck Him with their fists; and others slapped Him,
26:68saying, “Prophesy to us, Anointed One! Who is it that struck You?”
26:69Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard, and a servant girl came near to him, saying, “You also were with Jesus of Galilee.”
26:70But he denied it before them all, saying, “I do not know what you are saying.”
26:71And when he had gone out to the gateway, another servant girl saw him and said to those there, “This man also was with Jesus of Nazareth.”
26:72And again he denied it with an oath: “I do not know the Man.”
26:73And after a little while, those standing near came and said to Peter, “Truly you also are one of them, for even your speech makes you known.”
26:74Then he began to curse and to swear, “I do not know the Man!” And immediately a rooster crowed.
26:75And Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly.

Chapter 27

27:1And when morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus, to put Him to death.
27:2And they bound Him, led Him away, and delivered Him up to Pontius Pilate, the governor.
27:3Then Judas, who had delivered Him up, seeing that He was condemned, regretted what he had done and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders,
27:4saying, “I have sinned by delivering up innocent blood.” But they said, “What is that to us? See to it yourself.”
27:5And casting down the pieces of silver in the temple, he departed; and going away, he hanged himself.
27:6And the chief priests took the pieces of silver and said, “It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, since they are the price of blood.”
27:7And taking counsel, they bought with them the potter’s field, for the burial of strangers.
27:8Therefore that field has been called the Field of Blood to this day.
27:9Then what was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled, saying, “And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of Him who was priced, whom some of the sons of Israel priced,
27:10and gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord directed me.”
27:11And Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor questioned Him, saying, “Are You the King of the Jews?” And Jesus said to him, “You have said it.”
27:12And while the chief priests and the elders accused Him, He answered nothing.
27:13Then Pilate said to Him, “Do You not hear how many things they testify against You?”
27:14And He did not answer him, not even one word, so that the governor marveled greatly.
27:15Now at the feast the governor was accustomed to release to the crowd one prisoner, whomever they wished.
27:16And they had then a notorious prisoner called Barabbas.
27:17Therefore, when they had gathered, Pilate said to them, “Whom do you wish me to release to you: Barabbas, or Jesus who is called the Anointed One?”
27:18For he knew that they had delivered Him up because of envy.
27:19And while he was sitting upon the judgment seat, his wife sent to him, saying, “Have nothing to do with that righteous Man, for I have suffered many things today in a dream because of Him.”
27:20But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds that they should ask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus.
27:21And the governor answered and said to them, “Which of the two do you wish me to release to you?” And they said, “Barabbas.”
27:22Pilate said to them, “What then shall I do with Jesus who is called the Anointed One?” They all said to him, “Let Him be crucified!”
27:23And the governor said, “Why? What evil has He done?” But they cried out all the more, saying, “Let Him be crucified!”
27:24And when Pilate saw that he gained nothing, but rather that an uproar was arising, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of the blood of this righteous Man. See to it yourselves.”
27:25And all the people answered and said, “His blood be upon us and upon our children!”
27:26Then he released Barabbas to them; but after scourging Jesus, he delivered Him up to be crucified.
27:27Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the governor’s headquarters and gathered the whole cohort around Him.
27:28And stripping Him, they put a crimson cloak around Him.
27:29And plaiting a crown of thorns, they put it upon His head, and a reed in His right hand; and kneeling before Him, they mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”
27:30And spitting upon Him, they took the reed and struck Him upon the head.
27:31And when they had mocked Him, they took the cloak off Him, put His own garments upon Him, and led Him away to crucify Him.
27:32And as they came forth, they found a man of Cyrene named Simon; they compelled him to carry His cross.
27:33And coming to a place called Golgotha, which is called Place of the Skull,
27:34they gave Him sour wine mixed with gall to drink; but when He tasted it, He would not drink.
27:35And after crucifying Him, they divided His garments by casting a lot, that what was spoken by the prophet might be fulfilled: “They divided My garments among themselves, and over My clothing they cast a lot.”
27:36And sitting down, they kept watch over Him there.
27:37And they placed over His head the written charge against Him: “THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
27:38Then two robbers were crucified with Him, one on the right and one on the left.
27:39And those passing by reviled Him, wagging their heads
27:40and saying, “You who destroy the temple and build it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross.”
27:41Likewise the chief priests also, mocking Him with the scribes and elders, said,
27:42“He saved others; He cannot save Himself! If He is the King of Israel, let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe Him.
27:43He trusted in God; let God deliver Him now, if He delights in Him, for He said, ‘I am the Son of God.’”
27:44And the robbers who were crucified with Him reproached Him in the same way.
27:45Now from the sixth hour darkness came over all the land until the ninth hour.
27:46And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?”—that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”
27:47And some of those standing there, when they heard it, said, “This Man calls Elijah.”
27:48And immediately one of them ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine, put it upon a reed, and gave Him a drink.
27:49But the rest said, “Leave Him alone; let us see whether Elijah comes to save Him.”
27:50And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up the spirit.
27:51And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split.
27:52And the tombs were opened, and many bodies of the holy ones who had fallen asleep were raised;
27:53and coming forth from the tombs after His resurrection, they entered the holy city and appeared to many.
27:54And the captain of a hundred and those with him keeping watch over Jesus, when they saw the earthquake and the things that had happened, were exceedingly afraid, saying, “Truly this was God’s Son.”
27:55And many women were there, beholding from afar, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering to Him.
27:56Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.
27:57And when evening came, a rich man from Arimathea named Joseph came, who had also become a disciple of Jesus.
27:58He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered the body to be given to him.
27:59And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in clean linen,
27:60and laid it in his new tomb, which he had hewn in the rock; and rolling a great stone against the door of the tomb, he went away.
27:61And Mary Magdalene was there, and the other Mary, sitting opposite the tomb.
27:62Now on the next day, which was after the Preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilate,
27:63saying, “Lord, we remember that while He was still alive, that deceiver said, ‘After three days I rise.’
27:64Therefore command that the tomb be made secure until the third day, lest His disciples come by night and steal Him away, and say to the people, ‘He rose from the dead,’ and the last deceit will be worse than the first.”
27:65Pilate said to them, “You have a guard. Go, make it as secure as you know how.”
27:66And they went and made the tomb secure, sealing the stone together with the guard.

Chapter 28

28:1Now after the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb.
28:2And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from Heaven, came and rolled away the stone from the door, and sat upon it.
28:3And his appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow.
28:4And for fear of him the guards shook and became as dead men.
28:5But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not fear, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified.
28:6He is not here, for He has risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
28:7And go quickly, and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead. And behold, He goes before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you.”
28:8And they went forth quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell His disciples.
28:9And behold, Jesus met them, saying, “Greetings!” And they came near, took hold of His feet, and worshiped Him.
28:10Then Jesus said to them, “Do not fear. Go, tell My brothers to go into Galilee, and there they will see Me.”
28:11And while they were going, behold, some of the guard came into the city and reported to the chief priests all that had happened.
28:12And when they had gathered with the elders and taken counsel, they gave much money to the soldiers,
28:13saying, “Say, ‘His disciples came by night and stole Him while we slept.’
28:14And if this is heard by the governor, we will persuade him and keep you free from concern.”
28:15And they took the money and did as they were instructed; and this account has been spread among the Jews to this day.
28:16And the eleven disciples went into Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had directed them.
28:17And when they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some wavered.
28:18And Jesus came near and spoke to them, saying, “All authority in Heaven and upon the earth has been given to Me.
28:19Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, immersing them into the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
28:20teaching them to observe all that I commanded you. And behold, I am with you all the days, until the completion of the age.”
