Chapter 1

1:1Adam, Seth, Enosh,
1:2Kenan, Mahalalel, Jared,
1:3Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech,
1:4Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
1:5Sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.
1:6And sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.
1:7And sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.
1:8Sons of Ham: Cush, Mitzraim, Put, and Canaan.
1:9And sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. And sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan.
1:10And Cush begot Nimrod; he began to be a mighty man upon the earth.
1:11And Mitzraim begot the Ludim, the Anamim, the Lehabim, and the Naphtuhim,
1:12and the Pathrusim, the Casluhim, from whom came the Philistines, and the Caphtorim.
1:13And Canaan begot Sidon his firstborn, and Heth,
1:14and the Jebusites, the Amorites, and the Girgashites,
1:15and the Hivites, the Arkites, and the Sinites,
1:16and the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites.
1:17Sons of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram. And sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash.
1:18And Arphaxad begot Shelah, and Shelah begot Eber.
1:19And to Eber were born two sons: the name of the first was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided; and the name of his brother was Joktan.
1:20And Joktan begot Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, and Jerah,
1:21and Hadoram, Uzal, and Diklah,
1:22and Obal, Abimael, and Sheba,
1:23and Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were sons of Joktan.
1:24Shem, Arphaxad, Shelah,
1:25Eber, Peleg, Reu,
1:26Serug, Nahor, Terah,
1:27Abram—he is Abraham.
1:28Sons of Abraham: Isaac and Ishmael.
1:29These are their generations: Nebaioth, the firstborn of Ishmael, then Kedar, Adbeel, and Mibsam,
1:30Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, and Tema,
1:31Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah. These are the sons of Ishmael.
1:32And the sons of Keturah, Abraham’s concubine: she bore Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. And sons of Jokshan: Sheba and Dedan.
1:33And sons of Midian: Ephah, Epher, Enoch, Abidah, and Eldaah. All these were sons of Keturah.
1:34And Abraham begot Isaac. Sons of Isaac: Esau and Israel.
1:35Sons of Esau: Eliphaz, Reuel, Jeush, Jalam, and Korah.
1:36Sons of Eliphaz: Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, Kenaz, Timna, and Amalek.
1:37Sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah.
1:38And sons of Seir: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan.
1:39And sons of Lotan: Hori and Heman; and Lotan’s sister was Timna.
1:40Sons of Shobal: Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam. And sons of Zibeon: Ajah and Anah.
1:41The son of Anah: Dishon. And sons of Dishon: Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran, and Cheran.
1:42Sons of Ezer: Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan. Sons of Dishan: Uz and Aran.
1:43And these were the kings who reigned in the land of Edom before any king reigned over the sons of Israel: Bela son of Beor, and the name of his city was Dinhabah.
1:44Then Bela died, and Jobab son of Zerah from Bozrah reigned in his place.
1:45Then Jobab died, and Husham from the land of the Temanites reigned in his place.
1:46Then Husham died, and Hadad son of Bedad reigned in his place; he struck Midian in the territory of Moab, and the name of his city was Avith.
1:47Then Hadad died, and Samlah of Masrekah reigned in his place.
1:48Then Samlah died, and Saul from Rehoboth on the Euphrates reigned in his place.
1:49Then Saul died, and Ba‘al-hanan son of Achbor reigned in his place.
1:50Then Ba‘al-hanan died, and Hadar reigned in his place. And the name of his city was Pau, and the name of his wife was Mehetabel daughter of Matred, daughter of Me-zahab. And Hadar died.
1:51Then the chiefs of Edom were: Chief Timna, Chief Alvah, Chief Jetheth,
1:52Chief Oholibamah, Chief Elah, Chief Pinon,
1:53Chief Kenaz, Chief Teman, Chief Mibzar,
1:54Chief Magdiel and Chief Iram. These are the chiefs of Edom.

Chapter 2

2:1These are the sons of Israel: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun,
2:2Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.
2:3Sons of Judah: Er, Onan, and Shelah; these three were born to him by the daughter of Shua the Canaanite. And Er, Judah’s firstborn, was evil in the sight of the LORD, and He put him to death.
2:4And Tamar his daughter-in-law bore him Perez and Zerah. All the sons of Judah were five.
2:5Sons of Perez: Hezron and Hamul.
2:6And sons of Zerah: Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol, and Dara—five in all.
2:7And the son of Carmi was Achar, the troubler of Israel, who acted unfaithfully concerning the devoted thing.
2:8And the son of Ethan was Azariah.
2:9And the sons of Hezron who were born to him were Jerahmeel, Ram, and Chelubai.
2:10And Ram begot Amminadab, and Amminadab begot Nahshon, leader of the sons of Judah.
2:11And Nahshon begot Salmon, and Salmon begot Boaz.
2:12And Boaz begot Obed, and Obed begot Jesse.
2:13And Jesse begot Eliab his firstborn, Abinadab the second, Shimea the third,
2:14Nethanel the fourth, Raddai the fifth,
2:15Ozem the sixth, and David the seventh.
2:16And their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail. And sons of Zeruiah: Abishai, Joab, and Asahel—three.
2:17And Abigail bore Amasa, and the father of Amasa was Jether the Ishmaelite.
2:18And Caleb son of Hezron fathered children by Azubah his wife and by Jerioth; and these were her sons: Jesher, Shobab, and Ardon.
2:19Then Azubah died, and Caleb took Ephrath as his wife, and she bore him Hur.
2:20And Hur begot Uri, and Uri begot Bezalel.
2:21And afterward Hezron went in to the daughter of Machir, father of Gilead. He took her when he was sixty years old, and she bore him Segub.
2:22And Segub begot Jair, and he had twenty-three cities in the land of Gilead.
2:23But Geshur and Aram took Jair’s villages from them, with Kenath and its villages—sixty cities. All these belonged to the sons of Machir, father of Gilead.
2:24And after Hezron died in Caleb-ephrathah, Abijah, Hezron’s wife, bore him Asshur, father of Tekoa.
2:25And the sons of Jerahmeel, the firstborn of Hezron, were Ram the firstborn, Bunah, Oren, Ozem, and Ahijah.
2:26And Jerahmeel had another wife, and her name was Atarah; she was the mother of Onam.
2:27And the sons of Ram, the firstborn of Jerahmeel, were Maaz, Jamin, and Eker.
2:28And the sons of Onam were Shammai and Jada. And sons of Shammai: Nadab and Abishur.
2:29And the name of Abishur’s wife was Abihail, and she bore him Ahban and Molid.
2:30And sons of Nadab: Seled and Appaim. And Seled died without sons.
2:31And the son of Appaim was Ishi; the son of Ishi was Sheshan; and the son of Sheshan was Ahlai.
2:32And the sons of Jada, brother of Shammai, were Jether and Jonathan. And Jether died without sons.
2:33And the sons of Jonathan were Peleth and Zaza. These were the sons of Jerahmeel.
2:34And Sheshan had no sons, but daughters. And Sheshan had an Egyptian servant whose name was Jarha.
2:35And Sheshan gave his daughter to Jarha his servant as a wife, and she bore him Attai.
2:36And Attai begot Nathan, and Nathan begot Zabad.
2:37And Zabad begot Ephlal, and Ephlal begot Obed.
2:38And Obed begot Jehu.
2:39And Jehu begot Azariah, and Azariah begot Helez, and Helez begot Eleasah.
2:40And Eleasah begot Sismai, and Sismai begot Shallum.
2:41And Shallum begot Jekamiah, and Jekamiah begot Elishama.
2:42And the sons of Caleb, brother of Jerahmeel: Mesha his firstborn, who was the father of Ziph; and Mareshah, who was the father of Hebron.
2:43And the sons of Hebron were Korah, Tappuah, Rekem, and Shema.
2:44And Shema begot Raham, father of Jorkeam; and Rekem begot Shammai.
2:45And the son of Shammai was Maon, and Maon was the father of Beth-zur.
2:46And Ephah, Caleb’s concubine, bore Haran, Moza, and Gazez; and Haran begot Gazez.
2:47And the sons of Jahdai were Regem, Jotham, Geshem, Pelet, Ephah, and Shaaph.
2:48Maacah, Caleb’s concubine, bore Sheber and Tirhanah.
2:49And she also bore Shaaph, father of Madmannah, and Sheva, father of Machbenah and Gibeah. And Caleb’s daughter was Achsah.
2:50These were the sons of Caleb. The sons of Hur, the firstborn of Ephrathah, were Shobal, father of Kiriath-jearim,
2:51Salma, father of Bethlehem, and Hareph, father of Beth-gader.
2:52And the sons of Shobal, father of Kiriath-jearim, were Haroeh and half the Menuhothites.
2:53And the families of Kiriath-jearim were the Ithrites, the Puthites, the Shumathites, and the Mishraites. From these came the Zorathites and the Eshtaolites.
2:54Sons of Salma: Bethlehem, the Netophathites, Atroth-beth-joab, half the Manahathites, and the Zorites.
2:55And the families of the scribes who dwelt at Jabez were the Tirathites, the Shimeathites, and the Sucathites. These are the Kenites who came from Hammath, father of the house of Rechab.

Chapter 3

3:1And these were the sons of David who were born to him in Hebron: the firstborn, Amnon, by Ahinoam the Jezreelite; the second, Chileab, by Abigail the Carmelite;
3:2the third, Absalom son of Maacah daughter of Talmai king of Geshur; the fourth, Adonijah son of Haggith;
3:3the fifth, Shephatiah by Abital; the sixth, Ithream by Eglah his wife.
3:4Six were born to him in Hebron, where he reigned seven years and six months; and he reigned thirty-three years in Jerusalem.
3:5And these were born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon—four by Bathsheba daughter of Eliam;
3:6then Ibhar, Elishama, Eliphelet,
3:7Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia,
3:8Elishama, Eliada, and Eliphelet—nine.
3:9All these were sons of David, apart from the sons of the concubines; and Tamar was their sister.
3:10And Solomon’s son was Rehoboam; Abijah his son, Asa his son, Jehoshaphat his son,
3:11Jehoram his son, Ahaziah his son, Joash his son,
3:12Amaziah his son, Uzziah his son, Jotham his son,
3:13Ahaz his son, Hezekiah his son, Manasseh his son,
3:14Amon his son, Josiah his son.
3:15And the sons of Josiah were Johanan the firstborn, Jehoiakim the second, Zedekiah the third, and Jehoahaz the fourth.
3:16And the sons of Jehoiakim were Jehoiachin his son and Zedekiah his son.
3:17And the sons of Jehoiachin the captive were Shealtiel his son,
3:18Malchiram, Pedaiah, Shenazzar, Jekamiah, Hoshama, and Nedabiah.
3:19And the sons of Pedaiah were Zerubbabel and Shimei. And the sons of Zerubbabel were Meshullam, Hananiah, and Shelomith their sister,
3:20and Hashubah, Ohel, Berechiah, Hasadiah, and Jushab-hesed—five.
3:21And the sons of Hananiah were Pelatiah and Jeshaiah; the sons of Rephaiah, the sons of Arnan, the sons of Obadiah, and the sons of Shecaniah.
3:22And the son of Shecaniah was Shemaiah. And the sons of Shemaiah were Hattush, Igal, Bariah, Neariah, and Shaphat—six.
3:23And the sons of Neariah were Elioenai, Hezekiah, and Azrikam—three.
3:24And the sons of Elioenai were Hodaviah, Eliashib, Pelaiah, Akkub, Johanan, Delaiah, and Anani—seven.

Chapter 4

4:1The sons of Judah were Perez, Hezron, Carmi, Hur, and Shobal.
4:2Reaiah son of Shobal begot Jahath, and Jahath begot Ahumai and Lahad. These were the families of the Zorathites.
4:3And these were the sons of Etam: Jezreel, Ishma, and Idbash; their sister’s name was Hazzelelponi.
4:4Penuel was the father of Gedor, and Ezer the father of Hushah. These were the sons of Hur, the firstborn of Ephrathah and father of Bethlehem.
4:5Asshur, the father of Tekoa, had two wives, Helah and Naarah.
4:6Naarah bore him Ahuzzam, Hepher, Temeni, and Haahashtari. These were the sons of Naarah.
4:7The sons of Helah were Zereth, Izhar, and Ethnan.
4:8Coz begot Anub, Zobebah, and the families of Aharhel son of Harum.
4:9Jabez was more honorable than his brothers; and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him in pain.”
4:10And Jabez called upon the God of Israel, saying, “Oh, that You would indeed bless me and enlarge my territory, and that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, so that it would not bring me pain!” And God granted what he asked.
4:11Chelub, brother of Shuhah, begot Mehir; he was the father of Eshton.
4:12Eshton begot Beth-rapha, Paseah, and Tehinnah, the father of Ir-nahash. These were the men of Recah.
4:13The sons of Kenaz were Othniel and Seraiah. And the son of Othniel was Hathath.
4:14Meonothai begot Ophrah, and Seraiah begot Joab, father of the Valley of Craftsmen, for they were craftsmen.
4:15The sons of Caleb son of Jephunneh were Iru, Elah, and Naam. And the son of Elah was Kenaz.
4:16The sons of Jehallelel were Ziph, Ziphah, Tiria, and Asarel.
4:17The sons of Ezrah were Jether, Mered, Epher, and Jalon. And she bore Miriam, Shammai, and Ishbah, the father of Eshtemoa.
4:18His Judahite wife bore Jered, the father of Gedor; Heber, the father of Socoh; and Jekuthiel, the father of Zanoah. These were the sons of Bithiah daughter of Pharaoh, whom Mered married.
4:19The sons of Hodiah’s wife, the sister of Naham, were the fathers of Keilah the Garmite and Eshtemoa the Maacathite.
4:20The sons of Shimon were Amnon, Rinnah, Ben-hanan, and Tilon. And the sons of Ishi were Zoheth and Ben-zoheth.
4:21The sons of Shelah son of Judah were Er, the father of Lecah; Laadah, the father of Mareshah; and the families of the house of the linen workers, of the house of Ashbea;
4:22and Jokim, the men of Cozeba, Joash, and Saraph, who ruled in Moab, and Jashubi-lehem. These records are ancient.
4:23They were potters who lived in Netaim and Gederah; they lived there in the king’s service.
4:24The sons of Simeon were Nemuel, Jamin, Jachin, Zerah, and Shaul;
4:25Shallum his son, Mibsam his son, Mishma his son.
4:26And the sons of Mishma were Hammuel his son, Zaccur his son, and Shimei his son.
4:27Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters, but his brothers did not have many sons, and none of their families multiplied as greatly as the sons of Judah.
4:28And they lived in Beersheba, Moladah, and Hazar-shual;
4:29in Bilhah, Ezem, and Tolad;
4:30in Bethuel, Hormah, and Ziklag;
4:31and in Beth-marcaboth, Hazar-susim, Beth-birei, and Shaaraim. These were their cities until David reigned.
4:32Their villages were Etam, Ain, Rimmon, Tochen, and Ashan—five cities—
4:33and all their villages around these cities, as far as Ba‘al. These were their settlements, and they kept their genealogical records.
4:34And Meshobab, and Jamlech, and Joshah son of Amaziah,
4:35and Joel, and Jehu son of Joshibiah, son of Seraiah, son of Asiel,
4:36and Elioenai, and Jaakobah, and Jeshohaiah, and Asaiah, and Adiel, and Jesimiel, and Benaiah,
4:37and Ziza son of Shiphi, son of Allon, son of Jedaiah, son of Shimri, son of Shemaiah.
4:38These men, named above, were leaders in their families, and their ancestral houses increased greatly.
4:39And they went to the entrance of Gedor, east of the valley, to seek pasture for their flocks.
4:40They found rich and good pasture, and the land was spacious, quiet, and peaceful; for people of Ham had lived there before.
4:41These men, recorded by name, came in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah. They struck the tents and the Meunites found there and devoted them to destruction, as they are to this day. And they lived in their place, because there was pasture there for their flocks.
4:42And from them, from the sons of Simeon, five hundred men went to Mount Seir, with Pelatiah, Neariah, Rephaiah, and Uzziel, sons of Ishi, at their head.
4:43They struck the surviving Amalekites and lived there to this day.

Chapter 5

5:1The sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel—for he was the firstborn, but because he defiled his father’s bed, his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph son of Israel, so that he was not enrolled in the genealogy according to the birthright;
5:2though Judah prevailed over his brothers and from him came the ruler, the birthright belonged to Joseph—
5:3the sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel, were Enoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.
5:4The sons of Joel were Shemaiah his son, Gog his son, Shimei his son,
5:5Micah his son, Reaiah his son, and Ba‘al his son;
5:6Beerah his son, whom Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria deported. He was a leader of the Reubenites.
5:7And his brothers, according to their families, as enrolled in the genealogy of their generations, were Jeiel the chief and Zechariah,
5:8and Bela son of Azaz, son of Shema, son of Joel. He lived in Aroer as far as Nebo and Ba‘al-meon;
5:9and eastward he lived as far as the edge of the wilderness toward the Euphrates River, for their livestock had multiplied in the land of Gilead.
5:10In the days of Saul they made war against the Hagrites, who fell by their hand; and they lived in their tents throughout all the land east of Gilead.
5:11The sons of Gad lived opposite them in the land of Bashan, as far as Salecah:
5:12Joel the chief, Shapham the second, and Janai and Shaphat in Bashan.
5:13And their brothers of their ancestral house were Michael, Meshullam, Sheba, Jorai, Jacan, Zia, and Eber—seven.
5:14These were the sons of Abihail son of Huri, son of Jaroah, son of Gilead, son of Michael, son of Jeshishai, son of Jahdo, son of Buz.
5:15Ahi son of Abdiel, son of Guni, was head of their ancestral house.
5:16They lived in Gilead, in Bashan and its towns, and throughout all the pasturelands of Sharon, as far as their borders.
5:17All of them were enrolled by genealogy in the days of Jotham king of Judah and in the days of Jeroboam king of Israel.
5:18The Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh had forty-four thousand seven hundred sixty valiant men—men able to bear shield and sword, draw the bow, trained for war, and ready for military service.
5:19They made war against the Hagrites, Jetur, Naphish, and Nodab.
5:20And they were helped against them, and the Hagrites and all who were with them were given into their hand; for they cried out to God in the battle, and He answered their prayer because they trusted in Him.
5:21And they took their livestock captive—fifty thousand camels, two hundred fifty thousand sheep, two thousand donkeys, and one hundred thousand people.
5:22For many fell slain, because the battle was God’s. And they lived in their place until the exile.
5:23The sons of the half-tribe of Manasseh lived in the land from Bashan as far as Ba‘al-hermon, Senir, and Mount Hermon; they multiplied greatly.
5:24And these were heads of their ancestral houses: Epher, Ishi, Eliel, Azriel, Jeremiah, Hodaviah, and Jahdiel—men mighty in valor, men of renown, heads of their ancestral houses.
5:25But they acted unfaithfully against the God of their fathers and prostituted themselves after the gods of the peoples of the land, whom God had destroyed before them.
5:26And the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria and the spirit of Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria; and he deported the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh and brought them to Halah, Habor, Hara, and the Gozan River, where they remain to this day.
5:27The sons of Levi were Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
5:28The sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.
5:29The children of Amram were Aaron, Moses, and Miriam their sister. And the sons of Aaron were Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.
5:30Eleazar begot Phinehas, and Phinehas begot Abishua;
5:31Abishua begot Bukki, and Bukki begot Uzzi;
5:32Uzzi begot Zerahiah, and Zerahiah begot Meraioth;
5:33Meraioth begot Amariah, and Amariah begot Ahitub;
5:34Ahitub begot Zadok, and Zadok begot Ahimaaz;
5:35Ahimaaz begot Azariah, and Azariah begot Johanan;
5:36Johanan begot Azariah, who served as priest in the house that Solomon built in Jerusalem;
5:37Azariah begot Amariah, and Amariah begot Ahitub;
5:38Ahitub begot Zadok, and Zadok begot Shallum;
5:39Shallum begot Hilkiah, and Hilkiah begot Azariah;
5:40Azariah begot Seraiah, and Seraiah begot Jehozadak;
5:41and Jehozadak went into exile when the LORD sent Judah and Jerusalem into exile by the hand of Nebuchadnezzar.

Chapter 6

6:1The sons of Levi were Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
6:2The sons of Gershon were Libni and Shimei.
6:3The sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.
6:4The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. These were the families of the Levites according to their fathers.
6:5Of Gershon: Libni his son, Jahath his son, Zimmah his son,
6:6Joah his son, Iddo his son, Zerah his son, and Jeatherai his son.
6:7The sons of Kohath were Amminadab his son, Korah his son, Assir his son,
6:8Elkanah his son, Ebiasaph his son, and Assir his son,
6:9Tahath his son, Uriel his son, Uzziah his son, and Shaul his son.
6:10The sons of Elkanah were Amasai and Ahimoth.
6:11Elkanah. The sons of Elkanah were Zophai his son and Nahath his son,
6:12Eliab his son, Jeroham his son, and Elkanah his son.
6:13The sons of Samuel were Joel the firstborn and Abijah the second.
6:14The sons of Merari were Mahli, Libni his son, Shimei his son, Uzzah his son,
6:15Shimea his son, Haggiah his son, and Asaiah his son.
6:16And these were the men whom David stationed over the service of song in the house of the LORD after the Ark came to rest.
6:17They ministered with song before the Dwelling Place of the Tent of Meeting until Solomon built the house of the LORD in Jerusalem; and they performed their service according to its order.
6:18And these were the men who served, together with their sons. Of the sons of the Kohathites: Heman the singer, son of Joel, son of Samuel,
6:19son of Elkanah, son of Jeroham, son of Eliel, son of Toah,
6:20son of Zuph, son of Elkanah, son of Mahath, son of Amasai,
6:21son of Elkanah, son of Joel, son of Azariah, son of Zephaniah,
6:22son of Tahath, son of Assir, son of Ebiasaph, son of Korah,
6:23son of Izhar, son of Kohath, son of Levi, son of Israel.
6:24And his brother Asaph, who stood at his right hand: Asaph son of Berechiah, son of Shimea,
6:25son of Michael, son of Baaseiah, son of Malchiah,
6:26son of Ethni, son of Zerah, son of Adaiah,
6:27son of Ethan, son of Zimmah, son of Shimei,
6:28son of Jahath, son of Gershon, son of Levi.
6:29And their brothers, the sons of Merari, stood on the left: Ethan son of Kishi, son of Abdi, son of Malluch,
6:30son of Hashabiah, son of Amaziah, son of Hilkiah,
6:31son of Amzi, son of Bani, son of Shamer,
6:32son of Mahli, son of Mushi, son of Merari, son of Levi.
6:33Their brothers the Levites were assigned to all the other service of the Dwelling Place of the house of God.
6:34Aaron and his sons burned offerings on the altar of burnt offering and incense on the altar of incense, performing all the work of the Most Holy Place and making atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses the servant of God commanded.
6:35And these were the sons of Aaron: Eleazar his son, Phinehas his son, Abishua his son,
6:36Bukki his son, Uzzi his son, Zerahiah his son,
6:37Meraioth his son, Amariah his son, Ahitub his son,
6:38Zadok his son, Ahimaaz his son.
6:39And these were their dwelling places according to their settlements within their borders. To the sons of Aaron, of the family of the Kohathites—for the lot was theirs—
6:40they gave Hebron in the land of Judah, with its pastures around it.
6:41But they gave the field of the city and its villages to Caleb son of Jephunneh.
6:42And to the sons of Aaron they gave Hebron, the city of refuge, with its pastures; Libnah with its pastures; Jattir with its pastures; and Eshtemoa with its pastures;
6:43Holon with its pastures, and Debir with its pastures;
6:44Ashan with its pastures, and Beth-shemesh with its pastures.
6:45And from the tribe of Benjamin: Geba with its pastures, Allemeth with its pastures, and Anathoth with its pastures. All their cities were thirteen cities among their families.
6:46And to the remaining sons of Kohath, ten cities were given by lot from the half-tribe of Manasseh.
6:47And to the sons of Gershon, according to their families, thirteen cities were given from the tribes of Issachar, Asher, and Naphtali, and from the tribe of Manasseh in Bashan.
6:48To the sons of Merari, according to their families, twelve cities were given by lot from the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun.
6:49And the sons of Israel gave the cities and their pastures to the Levites.
6:50They gave by lot, from the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin, these cities designated by name.
6:51And some of the families of the sons of Kohath received cities from the territory of Ephraim.
6:52They gave them Shechem, the city of refuge in the hill-country of Ephraim, with its pastures; and Gezer with its pastures;
6:53Jokmeam with its pastures, and Beth-horon with its pastures;
6:54Aijalon with its pastures, and Gath-rimmon with its pastures.
6:55And from the half-tribe of Manasseh: Aner with its pastures and Bileam with its pastures, for the family of the remaining sons of Kohath.
6:56To the sons of Gershon, from the half-tribe of Manasseh: Golan in Bashan with its pastures and Ashtaroth with its pastures.
6:57And from the tribe of Issachar: Kedesh with its pastures and Daberath with its pastures;
6:58Ramoth with its pastures, and Anem with its pastures.
6:59And from the tribe of Asher: Mashal with its pastures and Abdon with its pastures;
6:60Hukok with its pastures, and Rehob with its pastures.
6:61And from the tribe of Naphtali: Kedesh in Galilee with its pastures, Hammon with its pastures, and Kiriathaim with its pastures.
6:62To the remaining sons of Merari, from the tribe of Zebulun: Rimmon with its pastures and Tabor with its pastures.
6:63And from beyond the Jordan by Jericho, east of the Jordan, from the tribe of Reuben: Bezer in the wilderness with its pastures and Jahaz with its pastures;
6:64Kedemoth with its pastures, and Mephaath with its pastures.
6:65And from the tribe of Gad: Ramoth-gilead with its pastures and Mahanaim with its pastures;
6:66Heshbon with its pastures, and Jazer with its pastures.

Chapter 7

7:1The sons of Issachar were Tola, Pua, Jashub, and Shimron—four.
7:2The sons of Tola were Uzzi, Rephaiah, Jeriel, Jahmai, Ibsam, and Shemuel, heads of their ancestral houses, mighty men of valor in their generations. Their number in the days of David was twenty-two thousand six hundred.
7:3The son of Uzzi was Izrahiah. And the sons of Izrahiah were Michael, Obadiah, Joel, and Isshiah—together with Izrahiah, five; all of them heads.
7:4According to their genealogies, by their ancestral houses, they had thirty-six thousand troops ready for war, for they had many wives and sons.
7:5And their brothers among all the families of Issachar, mighty men of valor enrolled by genealogy, were eighty-seven thousand in all.
7:6The sons of Benjamin were Bela, Becher, and Jediael—three.
7:7The sons of Bela were Ezbon, Uzzi, Uzziel, Jerimoth, and Iri—five; heads of ancestral houses and mighty men of valor. According to their genealogy, they numbered twenty-two thousand thirty-four.
7:8The sons of Becher were Zemirah, Joash, Eliezer, Elioenai, Omri, Jerimoth, Abijah, Anathoth, and Alemeth. All these were the sons of Becher.
7:9According to their genealogy, by their generations and ancestral houses, the mighty men of valor numbered twenty thousand two hundred.
7:10The son of Jediael was Bilhan. And the sons of Bilhan were Jeush, Benjamin, Ehud, Chenaanah, Zethan, Tarshish, and Ahishahar.
7:11All these were the sons of Jediael, heads of ancestral houses and mighty men of valor; seventeen thousand two hundred were ready for military service.
7:12Shupham and Hupham were the sons of Ir, and Shuham was the son of Aher.
7:13The sons of Naphtali were Jahziel, Guni, Jezer, and Shallum, the sons of Bilhah.
7:14The sons of Manasseh were Asriel, whom his Aramean concubine bore; she also bore Machir, the father of Gilead.
7:15Machir took a wife for Hupham and Shupham. His sister’s name was Maacah. The name of the second was Zelophehad, and Zelophehad had daughters.
7:16Maacah wife of Machir bore a son and called his name Peresh; his brother’s name was Sheresh, and his sons were Ulam and Rakem.
7:17The son of Ulam was Bedan. These were the sons of Gilead son of Machir, son of Manasseh.
7:18And his sister Hammolecheth bore Ishhod, Abiezer, and Mahlah.
7:19The sons of Shemida were Ahian, Shechem, Likhi, and Aniam.
7:20The sons of Ephraim were Shuthelah, Bered his son, Tahath his son, Eleadah his son, Tahath his son,
7:21Zabad his son, Shuthelah his son, Ezer, and Elead. The native-born men of Gath killed Ezer and Elead because they had gone down to seize their livestock.
7:22And Ephraim their father mourned many days, and his brothers came to comfort him.
7:23Then he went in to his wife, and she conceived and bore a son; and he called his name Beriah, because calamity had come upon his house.
7:24His daughter was Sheerah, who built Lower and Upper Beth-horon and Uzzen-sheerah.
7:25Rephah was his son, Resheph his son, Telah his son, Tahan his son,
7:26Ladan his son, Ammihud his son, Elishama his son,
7:27Nun his son, Joshua his son.
7:28Their possession and settlements were Bethel and its surrounding towns, Naaran to the east, Gezer and its surrounding towns to the west, and Shechem and its surrounding towns, as far as Gaza and its surrounding towns.
7:29And along the borders of the sons of Manasseh were Beth-shean and its surrounding towns, Taanach and its surrounding towns, Megiddo and its surrounding towns, and Dor and its surrounding towns. In these lived the sons of Joseph, son of Israel.
7:30The sons of Asher were Imnah, Ishve, Ishvi, Beriah, and Serah their sister.
7:31The sons of Beriah were Heber and Malchiel; Malchiel was the father of Birzaith.
7:32Heber begot Japhlet, Shomer, Hotham, and Shua their sister.
7:33The sons of Japhlet were Pasach, Bimhal, and Ashvath. These were the sons of Japhlet.
7:34The sons of Shomer were Ahi, Rohgah, Hubbah, and Aram.
7:35The sons of Helem his brother were Zophah, Imna, Shelesh, and Amal.
7:36The sons of Zophah were Suah, Harnepher, Shual, Beri, Imrah,
7:37Bezer, Hod, Shamma, Shilshah, Ithran, and Beera.
7:38The sons of Jether were Jephunneh, Pispah, and Ara.
7:39The sons of Ulla were Arah, Hanniel, and Rizia.
7:40All these were the sons of Asher, heads of ancestral houses, chosen men, mighty in valor, and chief leaders. According to their genealogical enrollment for military service, their number was twenty-six thousand men.

Chapter 8

8:1Benjamin begot Bela his firstborn, Ashbel the second, Aharah the third,
8:2Nohah the fourth, and Rapha the fifth.
8:3The sons of Bela were Addar, Gera,
8:4Abihud, Abishua, Naaman, Ahoah,
8:5Gera, Shephuphan, and Huram.
8:6And these were the sons of Ehud. They were heads of ancestral houses among the inhabitants of Geba, whom they deported to Manahath:
8:7Naaman, Ahijah, and Gera. Gera deported them, and he begot Uzza and Ahihud.
8:8Shaharaim begot sons in the country of Moab after he had sent away Hushim and Baara, his wives.
8:9By Hodesh his wife he begot Jobab, Zibia, Mesha, Malcam,
8:10Jeuz, Shachiah, and Mirmah. These were his sons, heads of ancestral houses.
8:11By Hushim he begot Ahitub and Elpaal.
8:12The sons of Elpaal were Eber, Misham, and Shamer, who built Ono and Lod with its surrounding towns;
8:13and Beriah and Shema. They were heads of ancestral houses among the inhabitants of Aijalon, and they drove away the inhabitants of Gath.
8:14And Ahio, Shashak, Jeremoth,
8:15Zebadiah, Arad, Eder,
8:16Michael, Ishpah, and Joha were the sons of Beriah.
8:17And Zebadiah, Meshullam, Hizki, Heber,
8:18Ishmerai, Jezliah, and Jobab were the sons of Elpaal.
8:19And Jakim, Zichri, Zabdi,
8:20Elienai, Zillethai, Eliel,
8:21Adaiah, Beraiah, and Shimrath were the sons of Shimei.
8:22And Ishpan, Eber, Eliel,
8:23Abdon, Zichri, Hanan,
8:24Hananiah, Elam, Antothijah,
8:25Iphdeiah, and Penuel were the sons of Shashak.
8:26And Shamsherai, Shehariah, Athaliah,
8:27Jaareshiah, Elijah, and Zichri were the sons of Jeroham.
8:28These were heads of ancestral houses according to their generations, chief men. They lived in Jerusalem.
8:29The father of Gibeon lived in Gibeon, and his wife’s name was Maacah.
8:30His firstborn son was Abdon; then Zur, Kish, Ba‘al, Nadab,
8:31Gedor, Ahio, and Zechariah.
8:32Mikloth begot Shimeam. They also lived alongside their brothers in Jerusalem.
8:33Ner begot Kish, Kish begot Saul, and Saul begot Jonathan, Malchishua, Abinadab, and Esh-Ba‘al.
8:34The son of Jonathan was Merib-Ba‘al, and Merib-Ba‘al begot Micah.
8:35The sons of Micah were Pithon, Melech, Tahrea, and Ahaz.
8:36Ahaz begot Jehoaddah, Jehoaddah begot Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri, and Zimri begot Moza.
8:37Moza begot Binea; Rephaiah his son, Eleasah his son, Azel his son.
8:38Azel had six sons, and these were their names: Azrikam, Bocheru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah, and Hanan. All these were the sons of Azel.
8:39The sons of Eshek his brother were Ulam his firstborn, Jeush the second, and Eliphelet the third.
8:40The sons of Ulam were men mighty in valor, archers, and they had many sons and grandsons—one hundred fifty in all. All these were descendants of Benjamin.

Chapter 9

9:1And all Israel was enrolled by genealogy; and behold, they were written in the Book of the Kings of Israel. And Judah was carried away to Babylon for their unfaithfulness.
9:2Now the first inhabitants who dwelt in their possessions, in their cities, were Israelites, priests, Levites, and temple servants.
9:3And in Jerusalem dwelt some of the sons of Judah, some of the sons of Benjamin, and some of the sons of Ephraim and Manasseh:
9:4Uthai son of Ammihud, son of Omri, son of Imri, son of Bani, of the sons of Perez son of Judah.
9:5And of the Shilonites: Asaiah the firstborn and his sons.
9:6And of the sons of Zerah: Jeuel and their brothers—six hundred ninety.
9:7And of the sons of Benjamin: Sallu son of Meshullam, son of Hodaviah, son of Hassenuah;
9:8Ibneiah son of Jeroham; Elah son of Uzzi, son of Michri; and Meshullam son of Shephatiah, son of Reuel, son of Ibnijah.
9:9And their brothers, according to their generations, were nine hundred fifty-six. All these men were heads of fathers’ houses in the houses of their fathers.
9:10And of the priests: Jedaiah, Jehoiarib, Jachin,
9:11and Azariah son of Hilkiah, son of Meshullam, son of Zadok, son of Meraioth, son of Ahitub, chief officer of the house of God;
9:12Adaiah son of Jeroham, son of Pashhur, son of Malchijah; and Maasai son of Adiel, son of Jahzerah, son of Meshullam, son of Meshillemith, son of Immer.
9:13And their brothers, heads of their fathers’ houses, were one thousand seven hundred sixty, able men for the work of the service of the house of God.
9:14And of the Levites: Shemaiah son of Hasshub, son of Azrikam, son of Hashabiah, of the sons of Merari;
9:15Bakbakkar, Heresh, Galal, and Mattaniah son of Mica, son of Zichri, son of Asaph;
9:16Obadiah son of Shemaiah, son of Galal, son of Jeduthun; and Berechiah son of Asa, son of Elkanah, who dwelt in the villages of the Netophathites.
9:17And the gatekeepers were Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman, and their brothers. Shallum was the chief.
9:18And they are still stationed at the King’s Gate on the east. They are the gatekeepers for the divisions of the sons of Levi.
9:19And Shallum son of Kore, son of Ebiasaph, son of Korah, and his brothers from his father’s house, the Korahites, were over the work of the service, guarding the thresholds of the tent. Their fathers had been over the camp of the LORD, guarding the entrance.
9:20And Phinehas son of Eleazar had formerly been ruler over them; the LORD was with him.
9:21Zechariah son of Meshelemiah was gatekeeper at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting.
9:22All those chosen as gatekeepers at the thresholds were two hundred twelve. They were enrolled by genealogy in their villages. David and Samuel the seer established them in their appointed office.
9:23So they and their sons were over the gates of the house of the LORD, the house of the tent, by their watches.
9:24The gatekeepers were on the four sides: east, west, north, and south.
9:25And their brothers in their villages were to come in with them from time to time, for seven days.
9:26For the four chief gatekeepers, who were Levites, held a permanent office; and they were over the chambers and treasuries of the house of God.
9:27And they lodged around the house of God, for the watch was entrusted to them; and they had charge of opening it morning by morning.
9:28And some of them were over the utensils of service, for they brought them in by count and took them out by count.
9:29And some of them were appointed over the vessels and over all the utensils of the holy place, and over the fine flour, wine, oil, frankincense, and spices.
9:30And some of the sons of the priests prepared the mixture of spices.
9:31And Mattithiah, one of the Levites—the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite—held the office of preparing the things baked in pans.
9:32And some of their brothers, of the sons of the Kohathites, were over the bread of the Presence, to prepare it Sabbath by Sabbath.
9:33And these were the singers, heads of fathers’ houses among the Levites, who stayed in the chambers free from other service, for they were engaged in their work day and night.
9:34These were heads of fathers’ houses among the Levites, heads throughout their generations. They dwelt in Jerusalem.
9:35And Jeiel, the father of Gibeon, dwelt in Gibeon; and the name of his wife was Maacah.
9:36His firstborn son was Abdon, then Zur, Kish, Ba‘al, Ner, Nadab,
9:37Gedor, Ahio, Zechariah, and Mikloth.
9:38And Mikloth begot Shimeam. They also dwelt opposite their brothers in Jerusalem, with their brothers.
9:39And Ner begot Kish, and Kish begot Saul, and Saul begot Jonathan, Malchishua, Abinadab, and Esh-Ba‘al.
9:40And the son of Jonathan was Merib-Ba‘al, and Merib-Ba‘al begot Micah.
9:41And the sons of Micah were Pithon, Melech, Tahrea,
9:42and Ahaz. And Ahaz begot Jehoaddah, and Jehoaddah begot Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri; and Zimri begot Moza.
9:43And Moza begot Binea; Rephaiah his son, Eleasah his son, Azel his son.
9:44And Azel had six sons, and these were their names: Azrikam, Bocheru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah, and Hanan. These were the sons of Azel.

Chapter 10

10:1Now the Philistines fought against Israel, and the men of Israel fled before the Philistines and fell slain on Mount Gilboa.
10:2And the Philistines pursued Saul and his sons, and the Philistines struck Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul.
10:3And the battle pressed hard against Saul. The archers found him, and he was wounded by the archers.
10:4Then Saul said to his armor-bearer, “Draw your sword and pierce me through with it, lest these uncircumcised men come and abuse me.” But his armor-bearer would not, for he was greatly afraid. So Saul took the sword and fell upon it.
10:5And when his armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell upon the sword and died.
10:6So Saul died, and his three sons, and all his house; they died together.
10:7And when all the men of Israel who were in the valley saw that they had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their cities and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.
10:8And on the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.
10:9And they stripped him, took his head and his armor, and sent word throughout the land of the Philistines to proclaim the news to their idols and to the people.
10:10And they placed his armor in the house of their gods and fastened his skull in the house of Dagon.
10:11And when all the inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,
10:12all the valiant men arose, took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh. And they buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh and fasted seven days.
10:13So Saul died for his unfaithfulness by which he acted unfaithfully against the LORD, because he did not keep the word of the LORD, and also because he consulted a medium to inquire through a spirit.
10:14He did not inquire of the LORD; therefore He put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.

Chapter 11

11:1Then all Israel gathered to David at Hebron, saying, “Behold, we are your bone and your flesh.
11:2Formerly, even when Saul was king, you were the one who led Israel out and brought them in. And the LORD your God said to you, ‘You shall shepherd My people Israel, and you shall be ruler over My people Israel.’”
11:3So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and David made a covenant with them before the LORD at Hebron; and they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the LORD by Samuel.
11:4And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem, which is Jebus; and the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, were there.
11:5And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, “You shall not come in here.” Nevertheless, David captured the fortress of Zion, which is the City of David.
11:6And David said, “Whoever strikes the Jebusites first shall become chief and commander.” And Joab son of Zeruiah went up first and became chief.
11:7Then David dwelt in the fortress; therefore they called it the City of David.
11:8And he built the city all around, from Millo outward; and Joab restored the rest of the city.
11:9And David grew greater and greater, for the LORD of Hosts was with him.
11:10Now these were the chiefs of David’s mighty men, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the LORD concerning Israel.
11:11And this is the account of David’s mighty men: Jashobeam, son of a Hachmonite, chief of the Thirty; he raised his spear against three hundred and killed them at one time.
11:12And after him was Eleazar son of Dodo the Ahohite; he was among the three mighty men.
11:13He was with David at Pas-Dammim when the Philistines gathered there for battle. A portion of the field was full of barley, and the people fled before the Philistines.
11:14But they stationed themselves in the midst of the portion, defended it, and struck the Philistines. And the LORD worked a great deliverance.
11:15Then three of the thirty chief men went down to the rock, to David at the cave of Adullam, while the army of the Philistines was encamped in the Valley of Rephaim.
11:16David was then in the stronghold, and the Philistine garrison was then at Bethlehem.
11:17And David longed and said, “Who will give me a drink of water from the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate?”
11:18Then the three broke through the camp of the Philistines, drew water from the well of Bethlehem by the gate, carried it, and brought it to David. But David would not drink it; instead, he poured it out to the LORD.
11:19And he said, “Far be it from me, before my God, that I should do this. Shall I drink the blood of these men who went at the risk of their lives? For they brought it at the risk of their lives.” Therefore he would not drink it. These things the three mighty men did.
11:20And Abishai, brother of Joab, was chief of the Three. He raised his spear against three hundred and killed them, and he had a name among the Three.
11:21Of the Three, he was more honored than the other two and became their chief; yet he did not attain to the first three.
11:22Benaiah son of Jehoiada, son of a valiant man of Kabzeel, great in deeds, struck two champions of Moab. He also went down and struck a lion in a pit on a snowy day.
11:23He also struck an Egyptian, an imposing man five cubits tall. The Egyptian had a spear like a weaver’s beam in his hand, but Benaiah went down to him with a staff, snatched the spear from the Egyptian’s hand, and killed him with his own spear.
11:24These things Benaiah son of Jehoiada did, and he had a name among the three mighty men.
11:25Behold, he was honored above the Thirty, but he did not attain to the Three; and David set him over his bodyguard.
11:26And the mighty men of valor were Asahel brother of Joab; Elhanan son of Dodo of Bethlehem;
11:27Shammoth the Harorite; Helez the Pelonite;
11:28Ira son of Ikkesh the Tekoite; Abiezer the Anathothite;
11:29Sibbecai the Hushathite; Ilai the Ahohite;
11:30Maharai the Netophathite; Heled son of Baanah the Netophathite;
11:31Ithai son of Ribai of Gibeah, of the sons of Benjamin; Benaiah the Pirathonite;
11:32Hurai of the brooks of Gaash; Abiel the Arbathite;
11:33Azmaveth the Baharumite; Eliahba the Shaalbonite;
11:34the sons of Hashem the Gizonite; Jonathan son of Shage the Hararite;
11:35Ahiam son of Sacar the Hararite; Eliphal son of Ur;
11:36Hepher the Mecherathite; Ahijah the Pelonite;
11:37Hezro the Carmelite; Naarai son of Ezbai;
11:38Joel brother of Nathan; Mibhar son of Haggeri;
11:39Zelek the Ammonite; Naharai the Beerothite, armor-bearer of Joab son of Zeruiah;
11:40Ira the Ithrite; Gareb the Ithrite;
11:41Uriah the Hittite; Zabad son of Ahlai;
11:42Adina son of Shiza the Reubenite, chief of the Reubenites, and thirty with him;
11:43Hanan son of Maacah; Joshaphat the Mithnite;
11:44Uzzia the Ashterathite; Shama and Jeiel sons of Hothan the Aroerite;
11:45Jediael son of Shimri, and Joha his brother, the Tizite;
11:46Eliel the Mahavite; Jeribai and Joshaviah, sons of Elnaam; Ithmah the Moabite;
11:47Eliel, Obed, and Jaasiel the Mezobaite.

Chapter 12

12:1Now these were the men who came to David at Ziklag while he was still shut out because of Saul son of Kish. They were among the mighty men who helped him in battle,
12:2armed with bows and able to use both right hand and left in slinging stones and shooting arrows with the bow. They were of Saul’s brothers from Benjamin.
12:3The chief was Ahiezer, then Joash, sons of Shemaah the Gibeathite; Jeziel and Pelet, sons of Azmaveth; Beracah; Jehu the Anathothite;
12:4Ishmaiah the Gibeonite, a mighty man among the Thirty and over the Thirty;
12:5Jeremiah, Jahaziel, Johanan, and Jozabad the Gederathite;
12:6Eluzai, Jerimoth, Bealiah, Shemariah, and Shephatiah the Haruphite;
12:7Elkanah, Jesiah, Azarel, Joezer, and Jashobeam the Korahites;
12:8and Joelah and Zebadiah, sons of Jeroham of Gedor.
12:9And some of the Gadites separated themselves to David at the stronghold in the wilderness—mighty men of valor, men trained for battle, equipped with shield and spear, whose faces were like the faces of lions and who were swift as gazelles on the mountains:
12:10Ezer the chief, Obadiah the second, Eliab the third,
12:11Mishmannah the fourth, Jeremiah the fifth,
12:12Attai the sixth, Eliel the seventh,
12:13Johanan the eighth, Elzabad the ninth,
12:14Jeremiah the tenth, Machbannai the eleventh.
12:15These were of the sons of Gad, captains of the army; the least was equal to one hundred, and the greatest to one thousand.
12:16These were the men who crossed the Jordan in the first month, when it overflowed all its banks; and they put to flight all those in the valleys, to the east and to the west.
12:17And some of the sons of Benjamin and Judah came to David at the stronghold.
12:18And David went out before them and said to them, “If you have come to me in peace, to help me, my heart shall be united with you; but if to betray me to my adversaries, though there is no violence in my hands, may the God of our fathers see and judge.”
12:19Then the Spirit clothed Amasai, chief of the Thirty: “We are yours, O David, and with you, O son of Jesse! Peace, peace to you, and peace to the one who helps you, for your God helps you.” Then David received them and made them chiefs of the troop.
12:20And some from Manasseh defected to David when he came with the Philistines for battle against Israel; but they did not help the Philistines, for the rulers of the Philistines sent him away after taking counsel, saying, “At the cost of our heads he will defect to his master Saul.”
12:21As he went to Ziklag, these from Manasseh defected to him: Adnah, Jozabad, Jediael, Michael, Jozabad, Elihu, and Zillethai, chiefs of thousands in Manasseh.
12:22And they helped David against the raiding band, for they were all mighty men of valor and became commanders in the army.
12:23For day by day men came to David to help him, until there was a great camp, like the camp of God.
12:24And these were the numbers of the armed men ready for battle who came to David at Hebron to turn the kingdom of Saul over to him, according to the command of the LORD.
12:25The sons of Judah who carried shield and spear were six thousand eight hundred, armed for battle.
12:26Of the sons of Simeon, mighty men of valor for battle, there were seven thousand one hundred.
12:27Of the sons of Levi there were four thousand six hundred.
12:28And Jehoiada was leader of the house of Aaron, and with him were three thousand seven hundred.
12:29And Zadok was a young man mighty in valor, and from his father’s house came twenty-two chiefs.
12:30And of the sons of Benjamin, Saul’s brothers, there were three thousand; for until then the greater part of them had kept allegiance to the house of Saul.
12:31And of the sons of Ephraim there were twenty thousand eight hundred, mighty men of valor, men of renown in their fathers’ houses.
12:32And of the half-tribe of Manasseh there were eighteen thousand who were designated by name to come and make David king.
12:33And of the sons of Issachar, men who understood the times and knew what Israel should do, their chiefs were two hundred; and all their brothers were under their command.
12:34Of Zebulun there were fifty thousand who went out to battle, able to draw up in battle array with every weapon of war, keeping rank with an undivided heart.
12:35And of Naphtali there were one thousand chiefs, and with them thirty-seven thousand with shield and spear.
12:36And of the Danites there were twenty-eight thousand six hundred who could draw up in battle array.
12:37And of Asher there were forty thousand who went out to battle and could draw up in battle array.
12:38And from beyond the Jordan, of the Reubenites, Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, there were one hundred twenty thousand with every weapon of war for battle.
12:39All these were men of war who could keep rank. They came to Hebron with a whole heart to make David king over all Israel. And all the rest of Israel were also of one heart to make David king.
12:40And they were there with David three days, eating and drinking, for their brothers had prepared provisions for them.
12:41And also their neighbors, from as far as Issachar, Zebulun, and Naphtali, brought food on donkeys, camels, mules, and oxen—provisions of flour, fig cakes, raisin cakes, wine, oil, cattle, and sheep in abundance—for there was joy in Israel.

Chapter 13

13:1And David consulted with the captains of thousands and hundreds, and with every leader.
13:2And David said to all the assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you, and if it is from the LORD our God, let us send word far and wide to our brothers who remain in all the lands of Israel, and also to the priests and Levites with them in their cities with pasturelands, that they may gather to us.
13:3And let us bring the Ark of our God back to us, for we did not seek it in the days of Saul.”
13:4And all the assembly said that they would do so, for the matter was right in the eyes of all the people.
13:5So David assembled all Israel, from Shihor of Egypt to Lebo-hamath, to bring the Ark of God from Kiriath-jearim.
13:6And David and all Israel went up to Ba‘alah of Judah, that is, Kiriath-jearim, to bring up from there the Ark of God, which is called by the Name—the Name of the LORD who sits enthroned above the winged guardians.
13:7And they set the Ark of God on a new cart and brought it from the house of Abinadab; and Uzzah and Ahio were driving the cart.
13:8And David and all Israel were celebrating before God with all their might, with songs, lyres, harps, tambourines, cymbals, and trumpets.
13:9And when they came to the threshing floor of Chidon, Uzzah put out his hand to take hold of the Ark, for the oxen had stumbled.
13:10Then the anger of the LORD burned against Uzzah, and He struck him because he had put out his hand to the Ark; and he died there before God.
13:11And David was angry because the LORD had broken out against Uzzah; and that place has been called Perez-Uzzah to this day.
13:12And David feared God that day, saying, “How can I bring the Ark of God to me?”
13:13So David did not bring the Ark to himself in the City of David, but turned it aside to the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite.
13:14And the Ark of God remained with the household of Obed-Edom in his house three months; and the LORD blessed the house of Obed-Edom and all that he had.

Chapter 14

14:1And Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, with cedar wood, masons, and carpenters, to build a house for him.
14:2And David knew that the LORD had established him as king over Israel, for his kingdom was highly exalted for the sake of His people Israel.
14:3And David took more wives in Jerusalem, and David begot more sons and daughters.
14:4And these were the names of the children born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,
14:5Ibhar, Elishua, Eliphelet,
14:6Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia,
14:7Elishama, Beeliada, and Eliphelet.
14:8And when the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David. And David heard of it and went out against them.
14:9Now the Philistines came and spread themselves out in the Valley of Rephaim.
14:10Then David inquired of God, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You give them into my hand?” And the LORD said to him, “Go up, for I will give them into your hand.”
14:11So they went up to Ba‘al-Perazim, and David struck them there. And David said, “God has broken through my enemies by my hand like a breach of waters.” Therefore they called the name of that place Ba‘al-Perazim.
14:12And they abandoned their gods there; and David commanded, and they were burned with fire.
14:13Then the Philistines again spread themselves out in the valley.
14:14And David inquired again of God, and God said to him, “You shall not go up after them. Circle around from them and come upon them in front of the balsam trees.
14:15And when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, then go out to battle, for God has gone out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.”
14:16And David did as God commanded him, and they struck the camp of the Philistines from Gibeon as far as Gezer.
14:17And the fame of David went out into all the lands, and the LORD put the fear of him upon all the nations.

Chapter 15

15:1And David made houses for himself in the City of David, prepared a place for the Ark of God, and spread a tent for it.
15:2Then David said, “No one shall carry the Ark of God except the Levites, for the LORD has chosen them to carry the Ark of God and to serve Him forever.”
15:3And David assembled all Israel at Jerusalem to bring up the Ark of the LORD to the place he had prepared for it.
15:4And David gathered the sons of Aaron and the Levites:
15:5of the sons of Kohath, Uriel the chief and one hundred twenty of his brothers;
15:6of the sons of Merari, Asaiah the chief and two hundred twenty of his brothers;
15:7of the sons of Gershon, Joel the chief and one hundred thirty of his brothers;
15:8of the sons of Elizaphan, Shemaiah the chief and two hundred of his brothers;
15:9of the sons of Hebron, Eliel the chief and eighty of his brothers;
15:10of the sons of Uzziel, Amminadab the chief and one hundred twelve of his brothers.
15:11And David called Zadok and Abiathar the priests, and the Levites Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel, and Amminadab,
15:12and said to them, “You are the heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites. Sanctify yourselves, you and your brothers, and bring up the Ark of the LORD, God of Israel, to the place I have prepared for it.
15:13Because you did not carry it the first time, the LORD our God broke out against us, for we did not seek Him according to the ordinance.”
15:14So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the Ark of the LORD, God of Israel.
15:15And the sons of the Levites carried the Ark of God on their shoulders with the poles, as Moses commanded according to the word of the LORD.
15:16And David told the chiefs of the Levites to appoint their brothers as singers, with instruments of music—harps, lyres, and cymbals—sounding aloud to raise a voice of joy.
15:17So the Levites appointed Heman son of Joel; and from his brothers, Asaph son of Berechiah; and from the sons of Merari, their brothers, Ethan son of Kushaiah;
15:18and with them their brothers of the second rank: Zechariah, Ben, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom, and Jeiel the gatekeepers.
15:19And the singers Heman, Asaph, and Ethan were to sound bronze cymbals;
15:20and Zechariah, Aziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah, and Benaiah were to play harps in the maiden register;
15:21and Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom, Jeiel, and Azaziah were to lead with lyres in the lower octave.
15:22And Chenaniah, chief of the Levites, was in charge of the music; he gave instruction in the music, for he was skilled.
15:23And Berechiah and Elkanah were gatekeepers for the Ark.
15:24And Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah, and Eliezer the priests were blowing trumpets before the Ark of God; and Obed-Edom and Jehiah were gatekeepers for the Ark.
15:25So David, the elders of Israel, and the captains of thousands went to bring up the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD from the house of Obed-Edom with joy.
15:26And because God helped the Levites who carried the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD, they sacrificed seven bulls and seven rams.
15:27And David was clothed in a robe of fine linen, as were all the Levites who carried the Ark, the singers, and Chenaniah, leader of the music with the singers. David also wore a linen priestly vest.
15:28And all Israel brought up the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD with shouting, with the sound of a horn, and with trumpets, cymbals, harps, and lyres.
15:29And as the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD entered the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul looked through the window and saw King David dancing and celebrating; and she despised him in her heart.

Chapter 16

16:1And they brought in the Ark of God and set it in the midst of the tent that David had spread for it; and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before God.
16:2And when David had finished offering the burnt offering and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the Name of the LORD.
16:3And he distributed to every man and woman of Israel a loaf of bread, a date cake, and a raisin cake.
16:4And he appointed some of the Levites to minister before the Ark of the LORD, to commemorate, thank, and praise the LORD, God of Israel:
16:5Asaph was chief, and Zechariah second to him; then Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-Edom, and Jeiel, with harps and lyres; and Asaph was to sound the cymbals.
16:6And Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests were to sound trumpets continually before the Ark of the Covenant of God.
16:7Then on that day David first appointed Asaph and his brothers to give thanks to the LORD:
16:8“Give thanks to the LORD; call upon His Name; make known His deeds among the peoples.
16:9Sing to Him; sing praises to Him; tell of all His wonders.
16:10Glory in His Holy Name; let the heart of those who seek the LORD rejoice.
16:11Seek the LORD and His strength; seek His face continually.
16:12Remember the wonders He has done, His signs, and the judgments of His mouth,
16:13O offspring of Israel His servant, O sons of Jacob, His chosen ones.
16:14He is the LORD our God; His judgments are throughout all the earth.
16:15Remember His covenant forever, the word He commanded for a thousand generations,
16:16the covenant He made with Abraham, and His oath to Isaac.
16:17He confirmed it to Jacob as a statute, to Israel as an everlasting covenant,
16:18saying, ‘To you I will give the land of Canaan, the portion of your inheritance,’
16:19when you were few in number, very few, and sojourners in it.
16:20They wandered from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another people.
16:21He allowed no one to oppress them; He rebuked kings for their sake:
16:22‘Do not touch My anointed ones, and do no harm to My prophets.’
16:23Sing to the LORD, all the earth; proclaim His salvation from day to day.
16:24Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all the peoples.
16:25For great is the LORD and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods.
16:26For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but the LORD made the heavens.
16:27Splendor and majesty are before Him; strength and gladness are in His place.
16:28Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the peoples; ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.
16:29Ascribe to the LORD the glory of His Name; bring an offering and come before Him. Bow yourselves to the LORD in the splendor of holiness.
16:30Tremble before Him, all the earth; indeed, the world is firmly established; it shall not be moved.
16:31Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; and let them say among the nations, ‘The LORD reigns.’
16:32Let the sea roar, and all that fills it; let the field exult, and everything in it.
16:33Then the trees of the forest shall sing for joy before the LORD, for He comes to judge the earth.
16:34Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; for His steadfast love is everlasting.
16:35And say, ‘Save us, O God of our salvation; gather us and deliver us from the nations, that we may give thanks to Your Holy Name and glory in Your praise.
16:36Blessed is the LORD, God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting.’” And all the people said, “So be it!” and praised the LORD.
16:37And David left Asaph and his brothers there before the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD, to minister before the Ark continually, as each day required;
16:38and Obed-Edom with sixty-eight of his brothers; and Obed-Edom son of Jeduthun and Hosah were gatekeepers.
16:39And Zadok the priest and his brothers the priests were before the Dwelling Place of the LORD at the high place in Gibeon,
16:40to offer burnt offerings to the LORD continually on the altar of burnt offering, morning and evening, according to all that was written in the Law of the LORD, which He commanded Israel.
16:41And with them were Heman and Jeduthun and the rest of those chosen and designated by name, to give thanks to the LORD, for His steadfast love is everlasting.
16:42And with Heman and Jeduthun were trumpets, cymbals, and instruments for sacred song; and the sons of Jeduthun were gatekeepers.
16:43Then all the people departed, each to his house; and David returned to bless his household.

Chapter 17

17:1And when David dwelt in his house, he said to Nathan the prophet, “Behold, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD is under curtains.”
17:2And Nathan said to David, “Do all that is in your heart, for God is with you.”
17:3But that night the word of God came to Nathan, saying,
17:4“Go and say to David My servant, Thus says the LORD: You shall not build for Me a house in which to dwell.
17:5For I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought up Israel to this day, but I have gone from tent to tent and from one Dwelling Place to another.
17:6Wherever I have moved about among all Israel, did I speak a word to any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd My people, saying, ‘Why have you not built Me a house of cedar?’
17:7And now, thus you shall say to My servant David, Thus says the LORD of Hosts: I took you from the pasture, from following the flock, to be ruler over My people Israel.
17:8And I have been with you wherever you have gone, and have cut off all your enemies from before you. And I will make for you a name like the name of the great ones who are on the earth.
17:9And I will appoint a place for My people Israel and plant them, that they may dwell in their own place and be troubled no more. And wicked men shall wear them down no more, as formerly,
17:10from the days when I appointed judges over My people Israel. And I will subdue all your enemies. Moreover, I declare to you that the LORD will build a house for you.
17:11And when your days are fulfilled and you go to be with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom.
17:12He shall build a house for Me, and I will establish his throne forever.
17:13I will be a Father to him, and he shall be a son to Me; and I will not take My steadfast love from him, as I took it from the one who was before you.
17:14And I will establish him in My house and in My kingdom forever; and his throne shall be established forever.”
17:15According to all these words and according to all this vision, so Nathan spoke to David.
17:16Then King David went in and sat before the LORD and said, “Who am I, O LORD God, and what is my house, that You have brought me this far?
17:17And yet this was a small thing in Your sight, O God; for You have also spoken concerning the house of Your servant for a far-off time, and You have regarded me according to the stature of an exalted man, O LORD God.
17:18What more can David say to You concerning the honor shown to Your servant? For You know Your servant.
17:19O LORD, for Your servant’s sake and according to Your own heart, You have done all this greatness, to make known all these great things.
17:20O LORD, there is none like You, and there is no God besides You, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
17:21And what other nation on earth is like Your people Israel, whom God went to redeem as His own people, to make for Yourself a name of great and fearsome deeds by driving out nations from before Your people, whom You redeemed from Egypt?
17:22And You made Your people Israel Your own people forever; and You, O LORD, became their God.
17:23And now, O LORD, confirm forever the word that You have spoken concerning Your servant and his house, and do as You have spoken.
17:24Let it be established, that Your Name may be great forever, so that it may be said, ‘The LORD of Hosts, God of Israel, is Israel’s God’; and let the house of Your servant David be established before You.
17:25For You, O my God, have revealed to Your servant that You will build him a house; therefore Your servant has found courage to pray before You.
17:26And now, O LORD, You Yourself are God, and You have spoken this good promise concerning Your servant.
17:27And now, be pleased to bless the house of Your servant, that it may remain before You forever; for You, O LORD, have blessed it, and it is blessed forever.”

Chapter 18

18:1And afterward David struck the Philistines and subdued them, and took Gath and its villages from the hand of the Philistines.
18:2And he struck Moab, and the Moabites became servants to David and brought tribute.
18:3David also struck Hadadezer king of Zobah at Hamath, as he went to establish his dominion at the Euphrates.
18:4And David captured from him one thousand chariots, seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand foot soldiers. David hamstrung all the chariot horses but spared enough for one hundred chariots.
18:5And when the Arameans of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David struck twenty-two thousand Arameans.
18:6Then David put garrisons in Aram of Damascus, and the Arameans became servants to David and brought tribute. And the LORD saved David wherever he went.
18:7And David took the gold shields that were carried by the servants of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem.
18:8And from Tibhath and Cun, cities of Hadadezer, David took a great quantity of bronze; with it Solomon made the bronze Sea, the pillars, and the bronze vessels.
18:9When Toi king of Hamath heard that David had struck all the army of Hadadezer king of Zobah,
18:10he sent his son Joram to King David to ask about his welfare and to bless him because he had fought against Hadadezer and struck him, for Hadadezer had often been at war with Toi. And Joram brought all kinds of vessels of gold, silver, and bronze.
18:11King David also consecrated these to the LORD, together with the silver and gold he had taken from all the nations: from Edom, Moab, the Ammonites, the Philistines, and Amalek.
18:12And Abishai son of Zeruiah struck eighteen thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt.
18:13And he put garrisons in Edom, and all the Edomites became servants to David. And the LORD saved David wherever he went.
18:14And David reigned over all Israel and administered justice and righteousness for all his people.
18:15Joab son of Zeruiah was over the army, and Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was recorder.
18:16Zadok son of Ahitub and Ahimelech son of Abiathar were priests, and Shavsha was secretary.
18:17Benaiah son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David’s sons were chief officials at the king’s side.

Chapter 19

19:1And afterward Nahash king of Ammon died, and his son reigned in his place.
19:2And David said, “I will show steadfast love to Hanun son of Nahash, for his father showed steadfast love to me.” So David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father; and David’s servants came to Hanun in the land of Ammon to comfort him.
19:3But the leaders of the Ammonites said to Hanun, “Do you think David is honoring your father because he has sent comforters to you? Have his servants not come to search out, overthrow, and spy out the land?”
19:4So Hanun took David’s servants, shaved them, cut off their robes at the hips, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.
19:5When they told David about the men, he sent to meet them, for the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said, “Remain at Jericho until your beards have grown back; then return.”
19:6And when the Ammonites saw that they had become abhorrent to David, Hanun and the Ammonites sent one thousand talents of silver to hire chariots and horsemen from Aram-naharaim, Aram-maacah, and Zobah.
19:7And they hired thirty-two thousand chariots, and the king of Maacah with his people. They came and encamped before Medeba, while the Ammonites gathered from their cities and came for battle.
19:8And when David heard of it, he sent Joab and all the army—the mighty men.
19:9Then the Ammonites came out and arrayed themselves for battle at the entrance of the city; and the kings who had come were by themselves in the field.
19:10When Joab saw that the battle line was against him both before and behind, he chose men from all the choice men of Israel and arrayed them against the Arameans.
19:11And the rest of the people he placed in the hand of Abishai his brother, and they arrayed themselves against the Ammonites.
19:12And he said, “If the Arameans are too strong for me, then you shall come to my aid; and if the Ammonites are too strong for you, then I will come to your aid.
19:13Be strong, and let us be courageous for our people and for the cities of our God; and may the LORD do what is good in His sight.”
19:14So Joab and the people who were with him drew near to battle against the Arameans, and they fled before him.
19:15And when the Ammonites saw that the Arameans had fled, they also fled before Abishai his brother and entered the city. Then Joab came to Jerusalem.
19:16And when the Arameans saw that they had been defeated before Israel, they sent messengers and brought out the Arameans who were beyond the Euphrates, with Shobach, commander of Hadadezer’s army, leading them.
19:17And when it was told to David, he gathered all Israel, crossed the Jordan, came to them, and arrayed himself against them. And David arrayed himself for battle against the Arameans, and they fought with him.
19:18Then the Arameans fled before Israel; and David slew seven thousand Aramean charioteers and forty thousand foot soldiers. He also put Shobach, the commander of the army, to death.
19:19And when Hadadezer’s servants saw that they had been defeated before Israel, they made peace with David and served him. And the Arameans were unwilling to help the Ammonites anymore.

Chapter 20

20:1And at the turn of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle, Joab led out the army, ravaged the land of Ammon, and came and besieged Rabbah. But David remained in Jerusalem. And Joab struck Rabbah and tore it down.
20:2And David took the crown of their king from his head and found that it weighed a talent of gold, and in it was a precious stone; and it was set upon David’s head. And he brought out a great quantity of spoil from the city.
20:3And he brought out the people who were in it and put them under saws, iron cutting tools, and axes. Thus David did to all the cities of the Ammonites. Then David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.
20:4And afterward war arose at Gezer with the Philistines. Then Sibbecai the Hushathite struck Sippai, one of the descendants of Rapha; and the Philistines were subdued.
20:5And there was war again with the Philistines, and Elhanan son of Jair struck Lahmi, brother of Goliath the Gittite, whose spear shaft was like a weaver’s beam.
20:6And there was war again at Gath, where there was a man of great stature who had six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot—twenty-four in all; and he also was born to Rapha.
20:7And when he taunted Israel, Jonathan son of Shimea, David’s brother, struck him.
20:8These were descendants of Rapha in Gath, and they fell by the hand of David and by the hand of his servants.

Chapter 21

21:1And Satan stood against Israel and incited David to number Israel.
21:2And David said to Joab and to the leaders of the people, “Go, number Israel from Beersheba to Dan, and bring me the account, that I may know their number.”
21:3And Joab said, “May the LORD increase His people a hundredfold. Are they not all, my lord the king, servants to my lord? Why does my lord seek this? Why should it bring guilt upon Israel?”
21:4Nevertheless, the king’s word prevailed against Joab. So Joab went out, went throughout all Israel, and came to Jerusalem.
21:5And Joab gave David the number of the people: all Israel had one million one hundred thousand men who drew the sword, and Judah had four hundred seventy thousand men who drew the sword.
21:6But he did not count Levi and Benjamin among them, for the king’s word was abhorrent to Joab.
21:7And this matter was evil in the sight of God, so He struck Israel.
21:8And David said to God, “I have sinned greatly in doing this thing. And now, please take away the iniquity of Your servant, for I have acted very foolishly.”
21:9And the LORD spoke to Gad, David’s seer, saying,
21:10“Go and speak to David, saying, Thus says the LORD: I am setting three things before you; choose one of them, and I will do it to you.”
21:11So Gad came to David and said to him, “Thus says the LORD: Choose for yourself—
21:12either three years of famine, or three months swept away before your adversaries while the sword of your enemies overtakes you, or three days of the sword of the LORD—pestilence in the land, with the angel of the LORD destroying throughout all the territory of Israel. And now, consider what answer I shall return to Him who sent me.”
21:13And David said to Gad, “I am in great distress. Please let me fall into the hand of the LORD, for His mercies are many; but do not let me fall into the hand of man.”
21:14So the LORD sent a pestilence upon Israel, and seventy thousand men of Israel fell.
21:15And God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it; but as he was destroying, the LORD saw and relented concerning the calamity, and said to the angel who was destroying, “Enough; now withdraw your hand.” And the angel of the LORD was standing by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.
21:16And David lifted his eyes and saw the angel of the LORD standing between earth and heaven, with a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, covered with sackcloth, fell on their faces.
21:17And David said to God, “Was it not I who commanded the people to be counted? Indeed, it is I who have sinned and done great evil. But these sheep—what have they done? O LORD my God, please let Your hand be against me and my father’s house, but not against Your people to plague them.”
21:18Then the angel of the LORD commanded Gad to say to David that David should go up and build an altar to the LORD on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.
21:19So David went up according to the word of Gad, which he had spoken in the Name of the LORD.
21:20And Araunah turned and saw the angel, and his four sons who were with him hid themselves. Now Araunah was threshing wheat.
21:21And David came to Araunah. When Araunah looked and saw David, he went out from the threshing floor and bowed himself to David with his face to the earth.
21:22And David said to Araunah, “Give me the site of the threshing floor, that I may build an altar to the LORD on it. Give it to me for the full price, that the plague may be restrained from the people.”
21:23And Araunah said to David, “Take it, and let my lord the king do what is good in his sight. See, I give the oxen for burnt offerings, the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for a grain offering. I give it all.”
21:24But King David said to Araunah, “No, but I will surely buy it for the full price; for I will not take for the LORD what belongs to you, nor offer a burnt offering that costs me nothing.”
21:25So David gave Araunah six hundred shekels of gold by weight for the site.
21:26And David built an altar to the LORD there, offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called upon the LORD; and He answered him with fire from heaven upon the altar of burnt offering.
21:27Then the LORD spoke to the angel, and he returned his sword to its sheath.
21:28At that time, when David saw that the LORD had answered him at the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite, he offered sacrifices there.
21:29For the Dwelling Place of the LORD, which Moses had made in the wilderness, and the altar of burnt offering were at that time at the high place in Gibeon.
21:30But David could not go before it to seek God, for he was terrified by the sword of the angel of the LORD.

Chapter 22

22:1Then David said, “This is the house of the LORD God, and this is the altar of burnt offering for Israel.”
22:2And David commanded that the resident foreigners in the land of Israel be gathered, and he appointed stonecutters to dress stones for building the house of God.
22:3And David prepared iron in abundance for nails for the doors of the gates and for fittings, and bronze in such abundance that it could not be weighed;
22:4and cedar logs without number, for the Sidonians and Tyrians brought cedar logs in abundance to David.
22:5And David said, “My son Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house to be built for the LORD must be exceedingly magnificent, famous and glorious throughout all lands. Therefore I will make preparations for it.” So David prepared abundantly before his death.
22:6Then he summoned Solomon his son and charged him to build a house for the LORD, God of Israel.
22:7And David said to Solomon his son, “As for me, it was in my heart to build a house for the Name of the LORD my God.
22:8But the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ‘You have shed blood abundantly and have waged great wars. You shall not build a house for My Name, because you have shed much blood upon the earth before Me.
22:9Behold, a son shall be born to you. He shall be a man of rest, and I will give him rest from all his surrounding enemies. His name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness to Israel in his days.
22:10He shall build a house for My Name. He shall be a son to Me, and I will be a Father to him; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.’
22:11Now, my son, may the LORD be with you, and may you prosper and build the house of the LORD your God, as He has spoken concerning you.
22:12Only, may the LORD give you discretion and understanding and appoint you over Israel, that you may keep the Law of the LORD your God.
22:13Then you will prosper, if you are careful to do the statutes and judgments that the LORD commanded Moses concerning Israel. Be strong and courageous; do not fear or be dismayed.
22:14And behold, with great effort I have prepared for the house of the LORD one hundred thousand talents of gold and one million talents of silver, and bronze and iron beyond weighing, for they are in abundance. I have also prepared wood and stone, and you shall add to them.
22:15And with you are workmen in abundance—stonecutters, masons, carpenters, and every kind of skillful worker—
22:16in gold, silver, bronze, and iron without number. Arise and act, and may the LORD be with you.”
22:17And David commanded all the leaders of Israel to help Solomon his son, saying,
22:18“Is not the LORD your God with you? Has He not given you rest all around? For He has given the inhabitants of the land into my hand, and the land has been subdued before the LORD and before His people.
22:19Now set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God. Arise and build the sanctuary of the LORD God, to bring the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD and the holy vessels of God into the house that is to be built for the Name of the LORD.”

Chapter 23

23:1And David was old and full of days, and he made Solomon his son king over Israel.
23:2And he gathered all the leaders of Israel, with the priests and the Levites.
23:3And the Levites were counted from thirty years old and upward; and their number, head by head, was thirty-eight thousand men.
23:4Of these, twenty-four thousand were to oversee the work of the house of the LORD, and six thousand were officers and judges,
23:5and four thousand were gatekeepers, and four thousand were to praise the LORD “with the instruments I made for praise,” said David.
23:6And David divided them into divisions according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
23:7Of the Gershonites: Ladan and Shimei.
23:8The sons of Ladan: Jehiel the chief, Zetham, and Joel—three.
23:9The sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, Haziel, and Haran—three. These were the heads of the fathers’ houses of Ladan.
23:10And the sons of Shimei: Jahath, Zizah, Jeush, and Beriah. These were the four sons of Shimei.
23:11Jahath was chief, and Zizah second; but Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons, so they were counted as one father’s house.
23:12The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel—four.
23:13The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. And Aaron was set apart, he and his sons forever, to consecrate the most holy things, to burn incense before the LORD, to serve Him, and to bless in His Name forever.
23:14But the sons of Moses, the man of God, were reckoned to the tribe of Levi.
23:15The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer.
23:16The sons of Gershom: Shebuel the chief.
23:17And the sons of Eliezer: Rehabiah the chief. Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rehabiah were very many.
23:18The sons of Izhar: Shelomith the chief.
23:19The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the chief, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.
23:20The sons of Uzziel: Micah the chief, and Isshiah the second.
23:21The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish.
23:22And Eleazar died and had no sons, but only daughters; and their kinsmen, the sons of Kish, married them.
23:23The sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder, and Jerimoth—three.
23:24These were the sons of Levi by their fathers’ houses, the heads of the fathers’ houses as they were registered by name, head by head. They did the work for the service of the house of the LORD, from twenty years old and upward.
23:25For David said, “The LORD, God of Israel, has given rest to His people, and He dwells in Jerusalem forever.
23:26Therefore the Levites shall no longer carry the Dwelling Place or any of the vessels used in its service.”
23:27For according to the last words of David, the sons of Levi were numbered from twenty years old and upward.
23:28For their duty was to assist the sons of Aaron in the service of the house of the LORD, over the courts, the chambers, the cleansing of every holy thing, and the work of the service of the house of God;
23:29and over the bread of the Presence, the fine flour for the grain offering, the unleavened wafers, what was baked on the griddle, what was mixed with oil, and every liquid and dry measure;
23:30and to stand every morning to thank and praise the LORD, and likewise in the evening;
23:31and whenever burnt offerings were offered to the LORD on Sabbaths, new moons, and appointed festivals, in the number required by the ordinance concerning them, continually before the LORD.
23:32Thus they kept the charge of the Tent of Meeting, the charge of the sanctuary, and the charge of their brothers the sons of Aaron, for the service of the house of the LORD.

Chapter 24

24:1And these were the divisions of the sons of Aaron. The sons of Aaron were Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.
24:2But Nadab and Abihu died before their father and had no sons; so Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests.
24:3And David, together with Zadok of the sons of Eleazar and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, divided them according to their appointed service.
24:4And more chief men were found among the sons of Eleazar than among the sons of Ithamar, so they divided them: of the sons of Eleazar, sixteen heads of fathers’ houses; and of the sons of Ithamar, eight heads of fathers’ houses.
24:5And they divided them impartially by lot, for there were officials of the sanctuary and officials of God from both the sons of Eleazar and the sons of Ithamar.
24:6And Shemaiah son of Nethanel, the Levite scribe, recorded them before the king, the leaders, Zadok the priest, Ahimelech son of Abiathar, and the heads of the fathers’ houses of the priests and Levites; one father’s house was drawn for Eleazar, and one was drawn for Ithamar.
24:7And the first lot fell to Jehoiarib, the second to Jedaiah,
24:8the third to Harim, the fourth to Seorim,
24:9the fifth to Malchijah, the sixth to Mijamin,
24:10the seventh to Hakkoz, the eighth to Abijah,
24:11the ninth to Jeshua, the tenth to Shecaniah,
24:12the eleventh to Eliashib, the twelfth to Jakim,
24:13the thirteenth to Huppah, the fourteenth to Jeshebeab,
24:14the fifteenth to Bilgah, the sixteenth to Immer,
24:15the seventeenth to Hezir, the eighteenth to Happizzez,
24:16the nineteenth to Pethahiah, the twentieth to Jehezkel,
24:17the twenty-first to Jachin, the twenty-second to Gamul,
24:18the twenty-third to Delaiah, and the twenty-fourth to Maaziah.
24:19These were their appointed services for entering the house of the LORD according to the ordinance given through Aaron their father, as the LORD God of Israel had commanded him.
24:20And of the remaining sons of Levi: of the sons of Amram, Shebuel; of the sons of Shebuel, Jehdeiah.
24:21Of Rehabiah: Isshiah the chief.
24:22Of the Izharites: Shelomith; of the sons of Shelomith: Jahath.
24:23The sons of Jeriah: Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.
24:24The sons of Uzziel: Micah; of the sons of Micah: Shamir.
24:25Isshiah was the brother of Micah; of the sons of Isshiah: Zechariah.
24:26The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Jaaziah: Beno.
24:27The sons of Merari through Jaaziah: Beno, Shoham, Zaccur, and Ibri.
24:28Of Mahli: Eleazar, who had no sons.
24:30And the sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder, and Jerimoth. These were the sons of the Levites according to their fathers’ houses.
24:31And they also cast lots, just as their brothers the sons of Aaron did, before David the king, Zadok, Ahimelech, and the heads of the fathers’ houses of the priests and Levites—the heads of the fathers’ houses just as their younger brothers.

Chapter 25

25:1And David and the commanders of the army set apart for service some of the sons of Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun, who prophesied with lyres, harps, and cymbals. The number of the men serving according to their service was:
25:2of the sons of Asaph, Zaccur, Joseph, Nethaniah, and Jesharelah. The sons of Asaph were under the direction of Asaph, who prophesied under the direction of the king.
25:3Of Jeduthun, the sons of Jeduthun: Gedaliah, Zeri, Jeshaiah, Shimei, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah—six—under the direction of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied with the lyre in thanksgiving and praise to the LORD.
25:4Of Heman, the sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, Romamti-Ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth.
25:5All these were sons of Heman, the king’s seer in the words of God, to exalt his horn; and God gave Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.
25:6All these were under the direction of their father for the song in the house of the LORD, with cymbals, harps, and lyres, for the service of the house of God. Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman were under the direction of the king.
25:7And their number, together with their brothers who were trained in singing to the LORD—all who were skillful—was two hundred eighty-eight.
25:8And they cast lots for their duties, small and great alike, teacher as well as pupil.
25:9And the first lot, for Asaph, fell to Joseph; the second to Gedaliah—he, his brothers, and his sons, twelve;
25:10the third to Zaccur, his sons and his brothers, twelve;
25:11the fourth to Zeri, his sons and his brothers, twelve;
25:12the fifth to Nethaniah, his sons and his brothers, twelve;
25:13the sixth to Bukkiah, his sons and his brothers, twelve;
25:14the seventh to Jesharelah, his sons and his brothers, twelve;
25:15the eighth to Jeshaiah, his sons and his brothers, twelve;
25:16the ninth to Mattaniah, his sons and his brothers, twelve;
25:17the tenth to Shimei, his sons and his brothers, twelve;
25:18the eleventh to Uzziel, his sons and his brothers, twelve;
25:19the twelfth to Hashabiah, his sons and his brothers, twelve;
25:20the thirteenth to Shubael, his sons and his brothers, twelve;
25:21the fourteenth to Mattithiah, his sons and his brothers, twelve;
25:22the fifteenth to Jerimoth, his sons and his brothers, twelve;
25:23the sixteenth to Hananiah, his sons and his brothers, twelve;
25:24the seventeenth to Joshbekashah, his sons and his brothers, twelve;
25:25the eighteenth to Hanani, his sons and his brothers, twelve;
25:26the nineteenth to Mallothi, his sons and his brothers, twelve;
25:27the twentieth to Eliathah, his sons and his brothers, twelve;
25:28the twenty-first to Hothir, his sons and his brothers, twelve;
25:29the twenty-second to Giddalti, his sons and his brothers, twelve;
25:30the twenty-third to Mahazioth, his sons and his brothers, twelve;
25:31the twenty-fourth to Romamti-Ezer, his sons and his brothers, twelve.

Chapter 26

26:1Concerning the divisions of the gatekeepers: of the Korahites, Meshelemiah son of Kore, of the sons of Asaph.
26:2And the sons of Meshelemiah were Zechariah the firstborn, Jediael the second, Zebadiah the third, Jathniel the fourth,
26:3Elam the fifth, Jehohanan the sixth, and Eliehoenai the seventh.
26:4And the sons of Obed-Edom were Shemaiah the firstborn, Jehozabad the second, Joah the third, Sacar the fourth, Nethanel the fifth,
26:5Ammiel the sixth, Issachar the seventh, and Peullethai the eighth; for God had blessed him.
26:6And sons were born to his son Shemaiah; they ruled in their father’s house, for they were mighty men of valor.
26:7The sons of Shemaiah were Othni, Rephael, Obed, and Elzabad; and his brothers Elihu and Semachiah were men of valor.
26:8All these were sons of Obed-Edom, they and their sons and their brothers—able men with strength for the service—sixty-two from Obed-Edom.
26:9Meshelemiah had sons and brothers, men of valor—eighteen.
26:10And Hosah, of the sons of Merari, had sons: Shimri the chief—though he was not the firstborn, his father made him chief—
26:11Hilkiah the second, Tebaliah the third, and Zechariah the fourth. All the sons and brothers of Hosah were thirteen.
26:12These divisions of the gatekeepers, according to their chief men, had duties like their brothers, to minister in the house of the LORD.
26:13And they cast lots, small and great alike, according to their fathers’ houses, for each gate.
26:14And the lot for the east fell to Meshelemiah. Then they cast lots for his son Zechariah, a counselor with understanding, and his lot came out for the north.
26:15To Obed-Edom fell the south gate, and to his sons the storehouse.
26:16To Shuppim and Hosah fell the west gate, with the Shallecheth Gate on the ascending road, guard station beside guard station.
26:17On the east were six Levites each day, on the north four each day, on the south four each day, and at the storehouse two at each station.
26:18At the colonnade on the west were four at the road and two at the colonnade.
26:19These were the divisions of the gatekeepers among the sons of the Korahites and the sons of Merari.
26:20And of the Levites, Ahijah was over the treasuries of the house of God and over the treasuries of the holy things.
26:21Of the sons of Ladan the Gershonite—heads of the fathers’ houses belonging to Ladan the Gershonite—was Jehieli.
26:22The sons of Jehieli, Zetham and his brother Joel, were over the treasuries of the house of the LORD.
26:23From the Amramites, the Izharites, the Hebronites, and the Uzzielites:
26:24Shebuel son of Gershom, son of Moses, was chief officer over the treasuries.
26:25And his brothers through Eliezer were Rehabiah his son, Jeshaiah his son, Joram his son, Zichri his son, and Shelomoth his son.
26:26This Shelomoth and his brothers were over all the treasuries of the holy things that King David, the heads of the fathers’ houses, the captains of thousands and hundreds, and the commanders of the army had dedicated.
26:27They dedicated some of the spoil won in battles to repair the house of the LORD.
26:28And everything that Samuel the seer, Saul son of Kish, Abner son of Ner, and Joab son of Zeruiah had dedicated—everything anyone had dedicated—was under the charge of Shelomoth and his brothers.
26:29Of the Izharites, Chenaniah and his sons were appointed to the outside duties over Israel as officers and judges.
26:30Of the Hebronites, Hashabiah and his brothers—one thousand seven hundred men of valor—had oversight of Israel west of the Jordan for all the work of the LORD and the service of the king.
26:31Of the Hebronites, Jeriah was chief, according to their generations by fathers’ houses. In the fortieth year of David’s reign they were sought out, and mighty men of valor were found among them at Jazer in Gilead.
26:32And his brothers—two thousand seven hundred men of valor, heads of fathers’ houses—were appointed by King David over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh for every matter concerning God and every affair of the king.

Chapter 27

27:1And the sons of Israel, according to their number—the heads of fathers’ houses, the captains of thousands and hundreds, and their officers who served the king in every matter of the divisions, coming in and going out month by month throughout all the months of the year—numbered twenty-four thousand in each division.
27:2Over the first division for the first month was Jashobeam son of Zabdiel, and twenty-four thousand were in his division.
27:3He was of the sons of Perez and was chief of all the commanders of the army for the first month.
27:4Over the division for the second month was Dodai the Ahohite, and Mikloth was leader of his division; and twenty-four thousand were in his division.
27:5Chief of the third army division for the third month was Benaiah son of Jehoiada, the chief priest; and twenty-four thousand were in his division.
27:6This Benaiah was a mighty man among the thirty and commander of the thirty; and his son Ammizabad was in his division.
27:7The fourth, for the fourth month, was Asahel brother of Joab, and his son Zebadiah after him; and twenty-four thousand were in his division.
27:8The fifth, for the fifth month, was the commander Shamhuth the Izrahite; and twenty-four thousand were in his division.
27:9The sixth, for the sixth month, was Ira son of Ikkesh the Tekoite; and twenty-four thousand were in his division.
27:10The seventh, for the seventh month, was Helez the Pelonite, of the sons of Ephraim; and twenty-four thousand were in his division.
27:11The eighth, for the eighth month, was Sibbecai the Hushathite, of the Zerahites; and twenty-four thousand were in his division.
27:12The ninth, for the ninth month, was Abiezer the Anathothite, of the Benjamites; and twenty-four thousand were in his division.
27:13The tenth, for the tenth month, was Maharai the Netophathite, of the Zerahites; and twenty-four thousand were in his division.
27:14The eleventh, for the eleventh month, was Benaiah the Pirathonite, of the sons of Ephraim; and twenty-four thousand were in his division.
27:15The twelfth, for the twelfth month, was Heled the Netophathite, descended from Othniel; and twenty-four thousand were in his division.
27:16And over the tribes of Israel: over the Reubenites was Eliezer son of Zichri; over the Simeonites, Shephatiah son of Maacah;
27:17over the Levites, Hashabiah son of Kemuel; over the Aaronites, Zadok;
27:18over Judah, Elihu, one of David’s brothers; over Issachar, Omri son of Michael;
27:19over Zebulun, Ishmaiah son of Obadiah; over Naphtali, Jerimoth son of Azriel;
27:20over the sons of Ephraim, Hoshea son of Azaziah; over the half-tribe of Manasseh, Joel son of Pedaiah;
27:21over the half of Manasseh in Gilead, Iddo son of Zechariah; over Benjamin, Jaasiel son of Abner; over Dan, Azareel son of Jeroham.
27:22These were the leaders of the tribes of Israel.
27:23But David did not count those twenty years old and under, for the LORD had said that He would multiply Israel as the stars of the heavens.
27:24Joab son of Zeruiah began to count them but did not finish, and wrath came upon Israel because of this. Therefore the number was not entered in the account in the chronicles of King David.
27:25And Azmaveth son of Adiel was over the king’s treasuries; and Jonathan son of Uzziah was over the storehouses in the fields, the cities, the villages, and the towers.
27:26And Ezri son of Chelub was over those who worked the fields in the service of the ground.
27:27And Shimei the Ramathite was over the vineyards, and Zabdi the Shiphmite was over the produce of the vineyards stored in the wine cellars.
27:28And Ba‘al-Hanan the Gederite was over the olive trees and sycamore trees in the lowland, and Joash was over the stores of oil.
27:29And Shitrai the Sharonite was over the herds grazing in Sharon, and Shaphat son of Adlai was over the herds in the valleys.
27:30And Obil the Ishmaelite was over the camels, and Jehdeiah the Meronothite was over the donkeys.
27:31And Jaziz the Hagerite was over the flocks. All these were overseers of King David’s possessions.
27:32And Jonathan, David’s uncle, was a counselor, a man of understanding and a scribe. Jehiel son of Hachmoni attended the king’s sons.
27:33And Ahithophel was counselor to the king, and Hushai the Archite was the king’s friend.
27:34And after Ahithophel came Jehoiada son of Benaiah, then Abiathar; and Joab was commander of the king’s army.

Chapter 28

28:1And David assembled at Jerusalem all the leaders of Israel: the leaders of the tribes, the commanders of the divisions who served the king, the captains of thousands and hundreds, the overseers of all the possessions and livestock of the king and his sons, together with the officials, the mighty men, and every man of valor.
28:2Then King David rose to his feet and said, “Hear me, my brothers and my people. It was in my heart to build a resting place for the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD and for the footstool of our God, and I made preparations to build it.
28:3But God said to me, ‘You shall not build a house for My Name, for you are a man of war and have shed blood.’
28:4Yet the LORD, God of Israel, chose me from all my father’s house to be king over Israel forever. For He chose Judah as leader; and from the house of Judah, my father’s house; and among my father’s sons, He was pleased to make me king over all Israel.
28:5And from all my sons—for the LORD has given me many sons—He chose Solomon my son to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel.
28:6And He said to me, ‘Solomon your son shall build My house and My courts, for I have chosen him to be My son, and I will be his Father.
28:7And I will establish his kingdom forever, if he remains resolute in keeping My commandments and My ordinances, as at this day.’
28:8And now, in the sight of all Israel, the assembly of the LORD, and in the hearing of our God, keep and seek all the commandments of the LORD your God, so that you may possess this good land and cause your sons to inherit it after you forever.
28:9And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve Him with a heart wholly devoted and a willing mind; for the LORD searches every heart and understands every intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will cast you off forever.
28:10See now, for the LORD has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary. Be strong, and do it.”
28:11And David gave Solomon his son the plan of the porch, its buildings, its treasuries, its upper rooms, its inner rooms, and the room of the atonement cover;
28:12and the plan of all that the Spirit had put in his mind: for the courts of the house of the LORD, all the surrounding chambers, the treasuries of the house of God, and the treasuries of the holy things;
28:13for the divisions of the priests and Levites, all the work of the service of the house of the LORD, and all the vessels used in the service of the house of the LORD;
28:14gold by weight for the gold vessels used in every kind of service, and silver by weight for all the silver vessels used in every kind of service;
28:15the weight of gold for each gold lampstand and its gold lamps, and the weight of silver for each silver lampstand and its lamps, according to the use of each lampstand;
28:16the weight of gold for each table of the bread of the Presence, and silver for the silver tables;
28:17pure gold for the forks, bowls, and cups; the weight of gold for each gold basin, and the weight of silver for each silver basin;
28:18refined gold by weight for the altar of incense; and the plan of the chariot—that is, the gold winged guardians spreading their wings and covering the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD.
28:19“All this is in writing from the hand of the LORD upon me; He gave me understanding concerning all the work of the plan.”
28:20And David said to Solomon his son, “Be strong and courageous, and do it. Do not fear or be dismayed, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the house of the LORD is finished.
28:21And behold, the divisions of the priests and Levites are ready for all the service of the house of God; and with you in every work is every willing and skillful man for every kind of service. The leaders and all the people are at your command.”

Chapter 29

29:1And King David said to all the assembly, “Solomon my son, the one whom God has chosen, is young and inexperienced, and the work is great; for the palace is not for man, but for the LORD God.
29:2And with all my strength I have prepared for the house of my God: gold for the things of gold, silver for the things of silver, bronze for the things of bronze, iron for the things of iron, and wood for the things of wood; onyx stones and stones for setting, antimony, stones of various colors, every kind of precious stone, and alabaster in abundance.
29:3Moreover, because of my delight in the house of my God, I give my own private treasure of gold and silver for the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house:
29:4three thousand talents of gold from the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the buildings;
29:5gold for the things of gold and silver for the things of silver, and for all the work to be done by the hands of craftsmen. Who then will willingly consecrate himself today to the LORD?”
29:6Then the heads of the fathers’ houses, the leaders of the tribes of Israel, the captains of thousands and hundreds, and the officials over the king’s work offered willingly.
29:7And they gave for the service of the house of God five thousand talents and ten thousand darics of gold, ten thousand talents of silver, eighteen thousand talents of bronze, and one hundred thousand talents of iron.
29:8And whoever had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the house of the LORD, under the charge of Jehiel the Gershonite.
29:9And the people rejoiced because they offered willingly, for with a heart wholly devoted they offered willingly to the LORD; and King David also rejoiced with great joy.
29:10And David blessed the LORD in the sight of all the assembly; and David said, “Blessed are You, O LORD, God of Israel our father, from everlasting to everlasting.
29:11Yours, O LORD, are greatness, might, splendor, victory, and majesty; for all that is in the heavens and on the earth is Yours. Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom, and You are exalted as head above all.
29:12Both riches and honor come from You, and You rule over all. In Your hand are power and might, and in Your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all.
29:13And now, our God, we give thanks to You and praise Your glorious Name.
29:14But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly? For all things come from You, and from Your own hand we have given to You.
29:15For we are sojourners and temporary residents before You, as were all our fathers. Our days on the earth are like a shadow, and there is no hope of remaining.
29:16O LORD our God, all this abundance that we have prepared to build You a house for Your Holy Name comes from Your hand, and all of it is Yours.
29:17And I know, my God, that You test the heart and delight in uprightness. In the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things; and now I have seen with joy Your people who are present here offering willingly to You.
29:18O LORD, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our fathers, keep this forever in the intent of the thoughts of Your people’s heart, and direct their heart toward You.
29:19And give Solomon my son a heart wholly devoted, to keep Your commandments, Your testimonies, and Your statutes, to do all these things, and to build the palace for which I have made preparation.”
29:20Then David said to all the assembly, “Now bless the LORD your God.” And all the assembly blessed the LORD, God of their fathers, and bowed down and prostrated themselves before the LORD and the king.
29:21And they offered sacrifices to the LORD and offered burnt offerings to the LORD on the next day: one thousand bulls, one thousand rams, and one thousand lambs, with their drink offerings and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel.
29:22And they ate and drank before the LORD on that day with great joy. And they made Solomon son of David king a second time, and anointed him before the LORD as ruler, and Zadok as priest.
29:23And Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king in place of David his father, and prospered; and all Israel obeyed him.
29:24And all the leaders, the mighty men, and all the sons of King David pledged their allegiance to King Solomon.
29:25And the LORD made Solomon exceedingly great in the sight of all Israel and bestowed upon him royal majesty such as had not been upon any king over Israel before him.
29:26Thus David son of Jesse reigned over all Israel.
29:27And the days he reigned over Israel were forty years: he reigned seven years in Hebron and thirty-three years in Jerusalem.
29:28And he died at a good old age, full of days, riches, and honor; and Solomon his son reigned in his place.
29:29And behold, the acts of King David, from first to last, are written in the records of Samuel the seer, Nathan the prophet, and Gad the seer,
29:30together with all his reign and his might, and the times that passed over him, over Israel, and over all the kingdoms of the lands.
