Galatians

New Testament · 6 chapters · 149 verses.

Chapter 1

1:1Paul, an apostle—not from men, nor through man, but through Jesus the Anointed One, and God the Father, who raised Him from the dead—
1:2and all the brothers with me, to the assemblies of Galatia:
1:3Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus the Anointed One,
1:4who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us out of the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,
1:5to whom be the glory through the ages of the ages. So be it.
1:6I wonder that you are turning away so quickly from Him who called you in the grace of the Anointed One to a different good news—
1:7not that there is another; but there are some who trouble you and wish to pervert the good news of the Anointed One.
1:8But even if we or an angel from Heaven proclaims to you good news different from what we proclaimed to you, let him be accursed.
1:9As we have said before, and now I say again: if anyone proclaims to you good news different from what you received—let him be accursed!
1:10For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a slave of the Anointed One.
1:11And I make known to you, brothers, that the good news proclaimed by me is not according to man.
1:12For neither did I receive it from man, nor was I taught it, but through a revelation of Jesus the Anointed One.
1:13For you heard of my former conduct in Judaism, how beyond measure I persecuted the assembly of God and ravaged it;
1:14and I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people, being far more zealous for the traditions of my fathers.
1:15But when God, who set me apart from my mother’s womb and called me through His grace, was pleased
1:16to reveal His Son in me, that I might proclaim Him as good news among the nations, I did not immediately consult with flesh and blood,
1:17nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me, but I went away to Arabia, and again returned to Damascus.
1:18Then, after three years, I went up to Jerusalem to visit Peter, and remained with him fifteen days.
1:19But I saw none of the other apostles except James, the brother of the Lord.
1:20And the things that I write to you—behold, before God, I do not lie.
1:21Then I came into the regions of Syria and Cilicia.
1:22And I was unknown by face to the assemblies of Judea that are in the Anointed One.
1:23They only kept hearing, “He who once persecuted us now proclaims as good news the faith that he once ravaged.”
1:24And they were glorifying God in me.

Chapter 2

2:1Then after fourteen years I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, taking Titus with me also.
2:2And I went up by revelation, and set before them the good news that I proclaim among the nations—but privately before those held in esteem—lest somehow I was running or had run in vain.
2:3But not even Titus, who was with me, though he was a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised.
2:4But this was because of false brothers secretly brought in, who slipped in to spy out our freedom that we have in the Anointed One Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage.
2:5To them we did not yield in submission even for an hour, so that the truth of the good news might remain with you.
2:6But from those who were esteemed to be something—whatever they were then makes no difference to me; God shows no partiality—those esteemed added nothing to me.
2:7But on the contrary, when they saw that I had been entrusted with the good news for the uncircumcision, as Peter had been for the circumcision—
2:8for He who worked in Peter for the apostleship of the circumcision worked also in me toward the nations—
2:9and when James, Cephas, and John, who were esteemed to be pillars, perceived the grace given to me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship, that we should go to the nations, and they to the circumcision.
2:10They asked only that we should remember the poor—the very thing I was also eager to do.
2:11But when Peter came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned.
2:12For before certain men came from James, he was eating with the nations; but when they came, he drew back and separated himself, fearing those of the circumcision.
2:13And the rest of the Jews acted hypocritically with him, so that even Barnabas was carried away by their hypocrisy.
2:14But when I saw that they were not walking uprightly according to the truth of the good news, I said to Peter before all, “If you, being a Jew, live in the manner of the nations and not in the manner of the Jews, how do you compel the nations to live like Jews?
2:15We are Jews by nature, and not sinners from among the nations;
2:16yet knowing that a man is not justified by works of law, but through faith of Jesus the Anointed One, even we believed in Jesus the Anointed One, that we might be justified by faith of the Anointed One and not by works of law, because no flesh will be justified by works of law.”
2:17But if, while seeking to be justified in the Anointed One, we ourselves were also found sinners, is the Anointed One then a servant of sin? By no means!
2:18For if I build again the things I tore down, I set myself forth as a transgressor.
2:19For through law I died to law, that I might live to God.
2:20I have been crucified with the Anointed One, and I no longer live, but the Anointed One lives in me; and the life that I now live in the flesh, I live by faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
2:21I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness is through law, then the Anointed One died in vain.

Chapter 3

3:1O thoughtless Galatians, who bewitched you not to obey the truth—before whose eyes Jesus the Anointed One was openly portrayed among you as crucified?
3:2I wish to learn only this from you: did you receive the Spirit by works of the Law, or by the hearing of faith?
3:3Are you so thoughtless? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?
3:4Did you suffer so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain?
3:5He, therefore, who supplies the Spirit to you and works mighty deeds among you—does He do so by works of law or by the hearing of faith?
3:6Even as Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him for righteousness.
3:7Know, then, that those of faith—these are sons of Abraham.
3:8And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the nations by faith, proclaimed the good news beforehand to Abraham:
3:9All the nations will be blessed in you,” so that those of faith are blessed with believing Abraham.
3:10For as many as are of works of law are under a curse, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not remain in all things that have been written in the BOOK of the Law—to do them.”
3:11And it is evident that by law no one is justified before God, because “The righteous will live by faith.”
3:12And the Law is not of faith; rather, “The man who does them will live by them.”
3:13The Anointed One redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree,”
3:14so that the blessing of Abraham might come to the nations in the Anointed One Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
3:15Brothers, I speak in human terms: though it is only a man’s covenant, once it is confirmed no one sets it aside or adds to it.
3:16Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his Seed. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as of many, but as of one, “And to your Seed,” who is the Anointed One.
3:17And this I say: a covenant confirmed beforehand by God in the Anointed One, the Law, which came four hundred and thirty years afterward, does not annul so as to make the promise void.
3:18For if the inheritance is by law, it is no longer by promise; but God granted it to Abraham through promise.
3:19Why, then, the Law? It was added because of transgressions, until the Seed should come to whom the promise had been made, having been ordained through angels by the hand of a mediator.
3:20Now a mediator is not of one, but God is one.
3:21Is the Law, then, against the promises of God? By no means! For if a law had been given that could make alive, righteousness would truly have been by law.
3:22But the Scripture shut up all things under sin, so that the promise by faith of Jesus the Anointed One might be given to those who believe.
3:23But before faith came, we were kept under law, shut up to the faith about to be revealed.
3:24So the Law became our guardian to the Anointed One, that we might be justified by faith.
3:25But faith having come, we are no longer under a guardian.
3:26For you are all sons of God through faith in the Anointed One Jesus.
3:27For as many as were immersed into the Anointed One put on the Anointed One.
3:28There is neither Jew nor Greek; there is neither slave nor free man; there is neither male nor female, for you are all one in the Anointed One Jesus.
3:29And if you are the Anointed One’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to promise.

Chapter 4

4:1Now I say that as long as the heir is a child, he differs nothing from a slave, though he is lord of all,
4:2but is under guardians and stewards until the time appointed by the father.
4:3So we also, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world.
4:4But when the fullness of time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under law,
4:5that He might redeem those under law, that we might receive adoption as sons.
4:6And because you are sons, God sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying, “Father! Father!”
4:7So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then also an heir of God through the Anointed One.
4:8But then, indeed, not knowing God, you served those which by nature are not gods.
4:9But now, having known God—and rather being known by God—how do you turn again to the weak and poor elements, to which you desire to be enslaved anew?
4:10You observe days, and months, and seasons, and years!
4:11I am afraid for you, lest I have labored over you in vain.
4:12I implore you, brothers, become as I am, because I also became as you are. You did me no wrong.
4:13And you know that because of weakness of the flesh I proclaimed the good news to you at the first.
4:14And you did not despise or reject the trial in my flesh, but you received me as an angel of God—as the Anointed One Jesus.
4:15Where, then, is your blessedness? For I testify to you that, if possible, you would have plucked out your eyes and given them to me.
4:16So have I become your enemy by telling you the truth?
4:17They are zealous for you, but not well; rather, they wish to shut you out, so that you may be zealous for them.
4:18But it is good to be zealously sought for a good purpose at all times, and not only when I am present with you.
4:19My little children, for whom I again labor in birth until the Anointed One is formed in you,
4:20I wish I could be present with you now and change my tone, because I am perplexed about you.
4:21Tell me, you who desire to be under law, do you not hear the Law?
4:22For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the maidservant and one by the free woman.
4:23But he who was of the maidservant was born according to the flesh, while he who was of the free woman was born through the promise.
4:24These things are allegorical, for these are the two covenants: one indeed from Mount Sinai, bearing children into slavery, which is Hagar.
4:25For this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to the Jerusalem that now is, and is in slavery with her children.
4:26But the Jerusalem above is free, which is the mother of us all.
4:27For it is written: “Rejoice, O barren one who does not bear; break forth and cry aloud, you who are not in labor, for many are the children of the desolate—more than of her who has the husband.”
4:28And we, brothers, as Isaac was, are children of promise.
4:29But as then he who was born according to the flesh persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, so also now.
4:30But what does the Scripture say? “Cast out the maidservant and her son, for the son of the maidservant will not be heir with the son of the free woman.”
4:31So then, brothers, we are not children of the maidservant, but of the free woman.

Chapter 5

5:1Stand firm, then, in the freedom with which the Anointed One made us free, and do not be entangled again in a yoke of slavery.
5:2Behold, I, Paul, tell you that if you receive circumcision, the Anointed One will profit you nothing.
5:3And I testify again to every man who receives circumcision that he is a debtor to do the whole Law.
5:4You are severed from the Anointed One, you who seek to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.
5:5For through the Spirit, by faith, we eagerly await the hope of righteousness.
5:6For in the Anointed One Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love.
5:7You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth?
5:8This persuasion is not from Him who calls you.
5:9A little leaven leavens the whole lump.
5:10I have confidence in you in the Lord that you will think no otherwise. But he who troubles you will bear the judgment, whoever he may be.
5:11And I, brothers, if I still proclaim circumcision, why am I still persecuted? Then the stumbling-block of the cross has been done away with.
5:12I wish those who unsettle you would even cut themselves off.
5:13For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use freedom as an occasion for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
5:14For the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in this: “You will love your neighbor as yourself.”
5:15But if you bite and devour one another, take care that you are not consumed by one another.
5:16But I say: Walk by the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the desire of the flesh.
5:17For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. These are opposed to one another, so that you do not do the things you desire.
5:18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.
5:19Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are adultery, sexual immorality, uncleanness, licentiousness,
5:20idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, rivalries, dissensions, factions,
5:21envy, murders, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these. I warn you beforehand, as I also warned you before, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
5:22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith,
5:23meekness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
5:24And those who belong to the Anointed One Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
5:25If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.
5:26Let us not become conceited, provoking one another and envying one another.

Chapter 6

6:1Brothers, even if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of meekness, considering yourself, lest you also be tempted.
6:2Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of the Anointed One.
6:3For if anyone thinks himself to be something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.
6:4But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have cause for boasting in regard to himself alone, and not in regard to another.
6:5For each one will bear his own load.
6:6And let him who is instructed in the word share all good things with him who instructs.
6:7Do not be deceived: God is not mocked. For whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.
6:8For he who sows to his own flesh will reap corruption from the flesh; but he who sows to the Spirit will reap eternal life from the Spirit.
6:9And let us not grow weary in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not lose heart.
6:10Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, and especially to those of the household of faith.
6:11See with what large letters I have written to you with my own hand.
6:12As many as desire to make a good appearance in the flesh compel you to be circumcised, only that they may not be persecuted for the cross of the Anointed One.
6:13For not even those who are circumcised keep the Law, but they desire to have you circumcised so that they may boast in your flesh.
6:14But far be it from me to boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus the Anointed One, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
6:15For in the Anointed One Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation.
6:16And as many as walk by this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God.
6:17From now on, let no one trouble me, for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus.
6:18The grace of our Lord Jesus the Anointed One be with your spirit, brothers. So be it.
