Chapter 1
1In many portions and in many ways, God, having spoken long ago to the fathers through the prophets,1:2Has in these last days spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom He also made the ages.1:3He, being the radiance of His glory and the exact imprint of His being, and upholding all things by the word of His power, having made purification for our sins through Himself, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,1:4Having become so much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent Name than they.1:5For to which of the angels did He ever say, “You are My Son; today I have begotten You”? And again, “I will be a Father to Him, and He will be a Son to Me”?1:6And when He again brings the Firstborn into the world, He says, “Let all the angels of God worship Him.”1:7And of the angels He says, “He makes His angels spirits, and His ministers a flame of fire”;1:8But to the Son: “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; a scepter of uprightness is the scepter of Your Kingdom.1:9You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; therefore God, Your God, has anointed You with the oil of gladness above Your companions.”1:10And, “You, Lord, founded the earth in the beginning, and the heavens are the work of Your hands.1:11They will perish, but You remain; they all will wear out like a garment,1:12And You will roll them up like a mantle, and they will be changed. But You are the same, and Your years will not fail.”1:13But to which of the angels did He ever say, “Sit at My right hand until I make Your enemies Your footstool”?1:14Are they not all ministering spirits, sent out to serve for the sake of those who are about to inherit salvation?Chapter 2
1Therefore we must give all the more careful attention to the things we have heard, lest we drift away.2:2For if the word spoken through angels proved firm, and every transgression and disobedience received a just repayment,2:3How will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? It was first spoken by the Lord and was confirmed to us by those who heard,2:4God also bearing witness with signs and wonders, various works of power, and distributions of the Holy Spirit according to His will.2:5For He did not subject the world to come, concerning which we speak, to angels.2:6But one testified somewhere, saying, “What is man, that You are mindful of him, or the son of man, that You care for him?2:7You made him a little lower than the angels; You crowned him with glory and honor, and set him over the works of Your hands.2:8You subjected all things under his feet.” For in subjecting all things to him, He left nothing outside his rule. But now we do not yet see all things subjected to him.2:9But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.2:10For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to bring the author of their salvation to completion through sufferings.2:11For both He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all from One, for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brothers,2:12Saying, “I will declare Your Name to My brothers; in the midst of the assembly I will sing praise to You,” and again, “I will trust in Him”;2:13And again, “Behold, I and the children God has given Me.”2:14Therefore, since the children have shared in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise partook of the same, that through death He might destroy the one who has the power of death—that is, the Devil—2:15And deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to slavery throughout their lives.2:16For surely He does not take hold of angels, but He takes hold of the seed of Abraham.2:17Therefore He had to be made like His brothers in all things, that He might become a merciful and faithful Chief Priest in the things pertaining to God, to make atonement for the sins of the people.2:18For because He Himself suffered when tempted, He is able to help those who are tempted.Chapter 3
1Therefore, holy brothers, sharers in a heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and Chief Priest of our confession, Jesus the Anointed One,3:2Who was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was in all His house.3:3For this One has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as the builder of the house has more honor than the house.3:4For every house is built by someone, but He who built all things is God.3:5And Moses was indeed faithful in all His house as an attendant, for a testimony of the things that were to be spoken,3:6But the Anointed One as a Son over His house, whose house we are, if we hold fast the confidence and the boast of hope firm to the end.3:7Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, “Today, if you hear His voice,3:8Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of testing in the wilderness,3:9Where your fathers tested Me, proved Me, and saw My works for forty years.3:10Therefore I was grieved with that generation and said, ‘They always go astray in their heart, and they have not known My ways.’3:11So I swore in My anger, ‘They shall not enter My rest.’”3:12Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in falling away from the living God.3:13But exhort one another every day, while it is called “Today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.3:14For we have become sharers in the Anointed One, if we hold fast the confidence we had at the beginning firm to the end,3:15While it is said, “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”3:16For some, having heard, rebelled—but not all who came out of Egypt through Moses.3:17And with whom was He grieved for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?3:18And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, except to those who disobeyed?3:19And we see that they could not enter because of unbelief.Chapter 4
1Therefore, let us fear, lest while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you should seem to have fallen short of it.4:2For good news was proclaimed to us also, just as to them; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not joined with faith in those who heard.4:3For we who believed enter that rest, as He has said, “So I swore in My anger, ‘They shall not enter My rest,’” though His works were finished from the foundation of the world.4:4For He has spoken somewhere concerning the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all His works.”4:5And again in this place: “They shall not enter My rest.”4:6Since, then, it remains for some to enter it, and those to whom the good news was first proclaimed did not enter because of disobedience,4:7He again appoints a certain day, “Today,” saying through David after so long a time, as it has been said: “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.”4:8For if Joshua had given them rest, He would not afterward have spoken of another day.4:9Therefore a Sabbath rest remains for the people of God.4:10For he who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His own.4:11Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that no one may fall after the same example of disobedience.4:12For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.4:13And no creature is hidden before Him, but all things are naked and laid bare to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.4:14Therefore, having a great Chief Priest who has passed through the heavens—Jesus the Son of God—let us hold fast our confession.4:15For we do not have a Chief Priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.4:16Therefore let us draw near with boldness to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace for help in time of need.Chapter 5
1For every chief priest taken from among men is appointed on behalf of men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins.5:2He is able to deal gently with the ignorant and those going astray, since he himself is also surrounded by weakness.5:3And because of this, he is obligated to offer sacrifices for sins, as for the people, so also for himself.5:4And no one takes this honor for himself, but only when called by God, as Aaron also was.5:5So also the Anointed One did not glorify Himself to become Chief Priest, but He who said to Him: “You are My Son; today I have begotten You.”5:6As He also says in another place: “You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek.”5:7In the days of His flesh, He offered up both prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to Him who was able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His reverent fear.5:8Though He was a Son, He learned obedience through the things He suffered.5:9And having been brought to completion, He became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey Him,5:10having been designated by God as Chief Priest according to the order of Melchizedek.5:11Concerning Him we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.5:12For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you again need someone to teach you the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk, and not solid food.5:13For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is an infant.5:14But solid food belongs to the mature, who through practice have their senses trained to discern both good and evil.Chapter 6
1Therefore, leaving the elementary teaching about the Anointed One, let us go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and faith toward God,6:2of instruction about immersions, laying on of hands, resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.6:3And this we will do, if God permits.6:4For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, who tasted the heavenly gift, became sharers in the Holy Spirit,6:5tasted the good word of God and the powers of the coming age,6:6and then fell away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God and expose Him to public shame.6:7For land that drinks in the rain often falling upon it and produces a crop useful to those for whom it is cultivated receives blessing from God.6:8But if it bears thorns and briers, it is rejected and near a curse, and its end is to be burned.6:9But concerning you, beloved, we are persuaded of better things—things belonging to salvation—though we speak in this way.6:10For God is not unjust, to forget your work and the labor of love you showed toward His Name, in having served the holy ones and in continuing to serve them.6:11And we desire each one of you to show the same diligence, so as to have the full assurance of hope to the end,6:12that you may not become sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patient endurance inherit the promises.6:13For when God made the promise to Abraham, since He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself,6:14saying, “Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you.”6:15And so, having patiently endured, he obtained the promise;6:16For men indeed swear by one greater, and the oath for confirmation puts an end to every dispute among them.6:17In this way God, desiring more abundantly to show the heirs of the promise the unchangeable nature of His purpose, confirmed it by an oath,6:18so that through two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge may have strong encouragement to lay hold of the hope set before us.6:19We have this hope as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and entering within the veil,6:20where Jesus entered for us as a forerunner, having become Chief Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.Chapter 7
1For this Melchizedek—king of Salem, priest of God Most High—met Abraham as he returned from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him.7:2To him Abraham also gave a tenth of all. His name is first interpreted “King of righteousness,” and then also “King of Salem,” that is, “King of peace.”7:3Without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, he remains a priest continually.7:4Now consider how great this man was, to whom even Abraham the patriarch gave a tenth of the choicest spoils.7:5Indeed, those sons of Levi who receive the priesthood have a commandment under the Law to take tithes from the people—that is, from their brothers—even though they came from the body of Abraham.7:6But he whose genealogy is not traced from them received tithes from Abraham and blessed the one who held the promises.7:7And beyond all dispute, the lesser is blessed by the greater.7:8Here mortal men receive tithes, but there one receives them of whom it is testified that he lives.7:9And, so to speak, through Abraham even Levi, who receives tithes, paid tithes,7:10for he was still in the body of his ancestor when Melchizedek met him.7:11Therefore, if completion came through the Levitical priesthood—for under it the people received the Law—what further need was there for another priest to arise according to the order of Melchizedek, and not to be named according to the order of Aaron?7:12For when the priesthood is changed, a change of law also necessarily follows.7:13For He of whom these things are spoken belonged to another tribe, from which no one has served at the altar.7:14For it is evident that our Lord arose from Judah, a tribe concerning which Moses spoke nothing about priesthood.7:15And this is still more evident if another priest arises according to the likeness of Melchizedek,7:16who became a priest not according to a law of fleshly commandment, but according to the power of an indestructible life.7:17For He testifies: “You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek.”7:18For on the one hand, the former commandment is set aside because of its weakness and uselessness,7:19for the Law brought nothing to completion; but on the other hand, a better hope is introduced, through which we draw near to God.7:20And it was not without an oath,7:21for those indeed became priests without an oath, but He with an oath through Him who said to Him: “The Lord has sworn and will not relent: ‘You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek.’”7:22By so much Jesus has also become the guarantee of a better covenant.7:23And those priests indeed became many, because death prevented them from continuing.7:24But He, because He remains forever, holds His priesthood without change.7:25Therefore He is also able to save completely those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to intercede for them.7:26For such a Chief Priest was fitting for us: holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens.7:27He has no daily need, as the chief priests do, to offer sacrifices first for His own sins and then for those of the people; for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself.7:28For the Law appoints as chief priests men who have weakness, but the word of the oath, which came after the Law, appoints the Son, who has been brought to completion forever.Chapter 8
1Now the main point in what has been said is this: we have such a Chief Priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,8:2a servant of the holy places and of the true Dwelling Place, which the Lord set up, and not man.8:3For every chief priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices; therefore it was necessary for this One also to have something to offer.8:4For if He were on earth, He would not be a priest, since there are priests who offer the gifts according to the Law.8:5They serve in a copy and shadow of the heavenly things, just as Moses was divinely warned when he was about to construct the Dwelling Place; for He says, “See that you make all things according to the pattern shown to you on the mountain.”8:6But now He has obtained a more excellent service, inasmuch as He is also mediator of a better covenant, which has been established upon better promises.8:7For if that first were faultless, a place would not have been sought for a second.8:8For finding fault with them, He says: “Behold, days are coming, says the Lord, when I will establish with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah a new covenant,8:9not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, because they did not remain in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the Lord.8:10For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their mind, and I will write them upon their hearts; and I will be their God, and they will be My people.8:11And they will not each teach his fellow citizen, and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest.8:12For I will be merciful toward their unrighteous deeds, and I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.”8:13In the speaking “new,” He has made the first obsolete, and what is becoming obsolete and growing old is near disappearing.Chapter 9
1Now even the first covenant had regulations for worship and an earthly sanctuary.9:2For a Dwelling Place was prepared. In its first part were the lampstand, the table, and the bread of the Presence; this part is called the Holy Place.9:3And beyond the second veil was the part of the Dwelling Place called the Most Holy Place,9:4having the golden censer and the Ark of the Covenant overlaid on every side with gold, in which were the golden jar containing the manna, Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tablets of the covenant.9:5And above it were the winged guardians of glory overshadowing the atonement cover. Concerning these things we cannot now speak in detail.9:6Now when these things had been prepared in this way, the priests continually entered the first part of the Dwelling Place, performing the services.9:7But into the second only the chief priest entered, once a year, and not without blood, which he offered for himself and for the sins the people committed in ignorance.9:8By this the Holy Spirit was making evident that the way into the holy places had not yet been revealed while the first part of the Dwelling Place was still standing.9:9This is a symbol for the present time, in which both gifts and sacrifices are offered that cannot, as to conscience, bring the worshiper to completion.9:10They concern only foods and drinks and various immersions—fleshly ordinances imposed until the time of reformation.9:11But the Anointed One, having come as Chief Priest of the good things to come, through the greater and more complete Dwelling Place, not made with hands—that is, not of this creation—9:12not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy places once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.9:13For if the blood of bulls and goats, and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who are defiled, sanctify for the cleansing of the flesh,9:14how much more will the blood of the Anointed One, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself unblemished to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?9:15And for this reason He is mediator of a new covenant, so that, since a death has taken place for redemption from the transgressions under the first covenant, those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.9:16For where there is a covenant, it is necessary for the death of the one who made it to be established.9:17For a covenant is confirmed upon death, since it has no force at all while the one who made it lives.9:18Therefore not even the first covenant was inaugurated without blood.9:19For when every commandment according to the Law had been spoken by Moses to all the people, he took the blood of calves and goats, with water, scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people,9:20saying, “This is the blood of the covenant that God commanded for you.”9:21And in the same way he sprinkled with blood both the Dwelling Place and all the vessels used in the service.9:22And according to the Law almost all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.9:23Therefore it was necessary for the copies of the things in the heavens to be cleansed with these sacrifices, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.9:24For the Anointed One did not enter holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into Heaven itself, now to appear before the face of God for us.9:25Nor did He enter to offer Himself many times, as the chief priest enters the holy places every year with the blood of another.9:26Otherwise He would have had to suffer many times from the foundation of the world. But now, once at the completion of the ages, He has been revealed to put away sin through His sacrifice.9:27And just as it is appointed for men to die once, and after this comes judgment,9:28so also the Anointed One, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation to those who eagerly wait for Him.Chapter 10
1For the Law, having a shadow of the good things to come and not the very image of the things, can never, by the same sacrifices they offer continually year after year, bring those who draw near to completion.10:2Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, since the worshipers, once cleansed, would have had no more consciousness of sins?10:3But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance of sins every year.10:4For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.10:5Therefore, when He comes into the world, He says: “Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, but a body You prepared for Me.10:6In burnt offerings and offerings concerning sin You had no delight.10:7Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come—in the scroll of the book it is written of Me—to do Your will, O God.’”10:8After saying above, “Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offerings concerning sin You did not desire, nor did You delight in them”—which are offered according to the Law—10:9then He said, “Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God.” He takes away the first that He may establish the second.10:10By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus the Anointed One once for all.10:11And every priest indeed stands daily serving and offering the same sacrifices again and again, which can never take away sins.10:12But this One, having offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God,10:13waiting from then on until His enemies are made a footstool for His feet.10:14For by one offering He has brought to completion forever those who are being sanctified.10:15And the Holy Spirit also testifies to us; for after He had said,10:16“This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws upon their hearts, and I will write them upon their minds,”10:17He adds, “I will remember their sins and their lawlessness no more.”10:18And where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer offering for sin.10:19Therefore, brothers, having boldness to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus,10:20by a new and living way that He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh,10:21and having a Great Priest over the house of God,10:22let us draw near with a true heart, in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.10:23Let us hold fast the unwavering confession of hope, for He who promised is faithful.10:24And let us consider one another, to stir up love and good works,10:25not forsaking our gathering together, as is the custom of some, but exhorting one another—and so much the more as you see the Day drawing near.10:26For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the full knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,10:27but a certain fearful expectation of judgment and a fury of fire about to devour the adversaries.10:28Anyone who set aside the Law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.10:29How much worse punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?10:30For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine; I will repay, says the Lord.” And again, “The Lord will judge His people.”10:31It is fearful to fall into the hands of the living God.10:32But remember the former days, when, after you were enlightened, you endured a great conflict of sufferings,10:33partly by being publicly exposed to insults and afflictions, and partly by becoming sharers with those who were so treated.10:34For you also sympathized with me in my chains, and accepted the plundering of your possessions with joy, knowing in yourselves that you have in the heavens a better and enduring possession.10:35Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has a great reward.10:36For you need endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise.10:37“For yet a very little while, and He who is coming will come and will not delay.10:38But the righteous one will live by faith; and if he draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.”10:39But we are not of those who draw back to destruction, but of those who believe to the preserving of the soul.Chapter 11
1Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.11:2For by it the elders received a good testimony.11:3By faith we understand that the ages were formed by the word of God, so that what is seen did not come from things that appear.11:4By faith Abel offered to God a better sacrifice than Cain, through which he was testified to be righteous, God testifying concerning his gifts; and through it, though dead, he still speaks.11:5By faith Enoch was taken away so that he would not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him away; for before he was taken, he had received testimony that he was pleasing to God.11:6And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for whoever comes to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him.11:7By faith Noah, having been divinely warned concerning things not yet seen and moved with reverent fear, prepared an ark for the salvation of his household. Through this he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is according to faith.11:8By faith Abraham, when called, obeyed by going out to the place he was to receive as an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going.11:9By faith he sojourned in the land of promise as in a foreign land, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, fellow heirs of the same promise.11:10For he was looking for the city that has foundations, whose architect and builder is God.11:11By faith Sarah herself also received power to conceive seed, even beyond the proper age, because she considered Him faithful who had promised.11:12Therefore from one man—and him as good as dead—were born descendants as numerous as the stars of the heavens and as innumerable as the sand by the seashore.11:13All these died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them from afar, being persuaded of them and greeting them, and confessing that they were strangers and sojourners upon the earth.11:14For those who say such things make it clear that they seek a homeland.11:15And indeed, if they had kept in mind the land from which they came, they would have had opportunity to return.11:16But now they long for a better land, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.11:17By faith Abraham, when tested, offered up Isaac; and he who had received the promises was offering up his only begotten son,11:18of whom it was said, “In Isaac your Seed will be called.”11:19He reasoned that God was able even to raise him from the dead, from where, in a figure, he also received him back.11:20By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.11:21By faith Jacob, when dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph and worshiped upon the top of his staff.11:22By faith Joseph, when dying, made mention of the departure of the sons of Israel and gave instructions concerning his bones.11:23By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw that the child was beautiful, and they were not afraid of the king’s decree.11:24By faith Moses, when he had grown, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter,11:25choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasure of sin.11:26He considered the reproach of the Anointed One greater riches than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward.11:27By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible.11:28By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of the blood, so that the destroyer of the firstborn would not touch them.11:29By faith they passed through the Red Sea as through dry land; when the Egyptians attempted it, they were swallowed up.11:30By faith the walls of Jericho fell, having been surrounded for seven days.11:31By faith Rahab the prostitute did not perish with those who refused to believe, because she received the spies in peace.11:32And what more shall I say? For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and the prophets,11:33who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,11:34quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, were made strong out of weakness, became mighty in battle, and put foreign armies to flight.11:35Women received their dead by resurrection; and others were tortured, not accepting release, so that they might obtain a better resurrection.11:36And others received a trial of mockings and floggings, and even of chains and imprisonment.11:37They were stoned; they were sawn apart; they were tried; they died by the edge of the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, afflicted, mistreated—11:38of whom the world was not worthy—wandering in deserts and mountains, and in caves and holes of the earth.11:39And all these, having received a good testimony through faith, did not receive the promise,11:40God having provided something better for us, so that apart from us they would not be brought to completion.Chapter 12
1Therefore, since we also are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race set before us,12:2looking to Jesus, the Author and Completer of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured a cross, despising its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.12:3For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, so that you may not grow weary and faint in your souls.12:4You have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood in your struggle against sin.12:5And you have forgotten the exhortation that speaks to you as to sons: “My son, do not despise the discipline of the Lord, nor lose heart when reproved by Him,12:6for whom the Lord loves He disciplines, and He scourges every son whom He receives.”12:7It is for discipline that you endure. God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not discipline?12:8But if you are without discipline, of which all have become sharers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons.12:9Furthermore, we had fathers of our flesh who disciplined us, and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits, and live?12:10For they indeed disciplined us for a few days as seemed good to them, but He does so for our profit, that we may share in His holiness.12:11Now no discipline seems joyful for the present, but sorrowful; yet afterward it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those trained by it.12:12Therefore strengthen the feeble hands and make firm the weak knees,12:13and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be turned aside, but rather be healed.12:14Pursue peace with all, and sanctification, apart from which no one will see the Lord,12:15watching carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and through it many be defiled;12:16lest anyone be sexually immoral or profane like Esau, who for one meal sold his birthright.12:17For you know that afterward, when he desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought it earnestly with tears.12:18For you have not come to a mountain that may be touched and that burned with fire, and to blackness, darkness, and storm,12:19and to the sound of a trumpet and the voice of words, which those who heard begged that no further word be spoken to them.12:20For they could not bear what was commanded: “Even if a beast touches the mountain, it shall be stoned or shot through with an arrow.”12:21And so fearful was the sight that Moses said, “I am exceedingly afraid and trembling.”12:22But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to tens of thousands of angels,12:23to the festal gathering and assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in Heaven, to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of righteous men brought to completion,12:24and to Jesus, mediator of a new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than the blood of Abel.12:25See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from Heaven,12:26whose voice shook the earth then. But now He has promised, saying, “Yet once more I shake not only the earth, but also Heaven.”12:27And this phrase, “Yet once more,” signifies the removal of the things shaken, as things that have been made, so that the things not shaken may remain.12:28Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us have grace, through which we may serve God acceptably, with reverence and godly fear.12:29For our God is also a consuming fire.Chapter 13
1Let brotherly love remain.13:2Do not neglect hospitality, for through it some have entertained angels without knowing it.13:3Remember those in bonds as though bound with them, and those who are mistreated, since you yourselves also are in the body.13:4Let marriage be honored among all, and the marriage bed undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers.13:5Let your conduct be free from the love of money, and be content with what you have, for He has said, “I will never leave you, nor will I ever forsake you,”13:6so that we may boldly say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”13:7Remember those who lead you, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their conduct, and imitate their faith.13:8Jesus the Anointed One is the same yesterday and today and forever.13:9Do not be carried away by various and strange teachings, for it is good for the heart to be established by grace, not by foods, which have not profited those occupied with them.13:10We have an altar from which those who serve the Dwelling Place have no right to eat,13:11for the bodies of those animals whose blood is brought into the holy places by the chief priest as an offering for sin are burned outside the camp.13:12Therefore Jesus also suffered outside the gate, that He might sanctify the people through His own blood.13:13Let us, then, go out to Him outside the camp, bearing His reproach,13:14for here we have no abiding city, but we seek the one to come.13:15Through Him, then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His Name.13:16And do not neglect doing good and sharing, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.13:17Obey those who lead you and submit to them, for they watch over your souls as those who must give account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be unprofitable for you.13:18Pray for us, for we are confident that we have a good conscience, desiring to conduct ourselves honorably in all things.13:19And I urge you all the more to do this, that I may be restored to you sooner.13:20Now may the God of peace, who brought up from the dead the Great Shepherd of the sheep—our Lord Jesus—through the blood of an eternal covenant,13:21equip you in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing before Him, through Jesus the Anointed One, to whom be glory forever and ever. So be it.13:22And I urge you, brothers, bear with this word of exhortation, for I have written to you briefly.13:23Know that our brother Timothy has been released. If he comes soon, I will see you with him.13:24Greet all those who lead you, and all the holy ones. Those from Italy greet you.13:25Grace be with you all. So be it.
