Chapter 1

1:1And these are the names of the sons of Israel who came to Egypt with Jacob; each man came with his household:
1:2Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah,
1:3Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin,
1:4Dan, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.
1:5All the persons descended from Jacob were seventy persons; and Joseph was in Egypt.
1:6Then Joseph died, and all his brothers, and all that generation.
1:7And the sons of Israel were fruitful and swarmed; they multiplied and grew exceedingly strong, and the land was filled with them.
1:8Then a new king arose over Egypt who did not know Joseph.
1:9And he said to his people, “Behold, the people, the sons of Israel, are more numerous and mightier than we are.
1:10Come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and if war breaks out, they also join our enemies, fight against us, and go up out of the land.”
1:11Then they set overseers of forced labor over them to afflict them with their burdens; and they built storage cities for Pharaoh, Pithom and Rameses.
1:12But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and spread abroad; and the Egyptians dreaded the sons of Israel.
1:13And the Egyptians made the sons of Israel serve ruthlessly.
1:14They made their lives bitter with hard labor, with mortar and bricks and every kind of labor in the field. In all their labor they made them serve ruthlessly.
1:15Then the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, whose names were Shiphrah and Puah.
1:16And he said, “When you serve as midwives to the Hebrew women and see them on the birthstool, if it is a son, you shall kill him; but if it is a daughter, she shall live.”
1:17But the midwives feared God and did not do as the king of Egypt had spoken to them, but kept the boys alive.
1:18Then the king of Egypt called for the midwives and said to them, “Why have you done this thing and kept the boys alive?”
1:19And the midwives said to Pharaoh, “Because the Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women; for they are vigorous. Before the midwife comes to them, they have given birth.”
1:20And God dealt well with the midwives, and the people multiplied and grew very strong.
1:21And because the midwives feared God, He established households for them.
1:22Then Pharaoh commanded all his people, saying, “Every son who is born you shall cast into the Nile, but every daughter you shall keep alive.”

Chapter 2

2:1Then a man of the house of Levi went and took a daughter of Levi.
2:2The woman conceived and bore a son; and when she saw that he was beautiful, she hid him for three months.
2:3And when she could no longer hide him, she took an ark of papyrus reeds for him, coated it with bitumen and pitch, placed the boy in it, and set it among the reeds by the bank of the Nile.
2:4And his sister stood at a distance, to know what would be done to him.
2:5Then Pharaoh’s daughter came down to bathe at the Nile, and her young women were walking by the side of the Nile. She saw the ark among the reeds, sent her maidservant, and she took it.
2:6Then she opened it and saw the child; and behold, the boy was weeping. She had compassion on him and said, “This is one of the Hebrew children.”
2:7Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and call a nursing woman from the Hebrews for you, that she may nurse the boy for you?”
2:8And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Go.” So the young woman went and called the boy’s mother.
2:9Then Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this boy away and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages.” So the woman took the boy and nursed him.
2:10And the boy grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. She named him Moses and said, “Because I drew him out of the water.”
2:11And it came to pass in those days, when Moses had grown up, that he went out to his brothers and saw their burdens. And he saw an Egyptian striking a Hebrew, one of his brothers.
2:12He looked this way and that, and when he saw no one, he struck down the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.
2:13Then he went out the next day, and behold, two Hebrew men were fighting. And he said to the wrongdoer, “Why are you striking your neighbor?”
2:14But he said, “Who made you a ruler and judge over us? Do you intend to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?” Then Moses was afraid and said, “Surely the matter is known.”
2:15When Pharaoh heard of this matter, he sought to kill Moses. But Moses fled from Pharaoh’s presence and dwelt in the land of Midian; and he sat down by a well.
2:16Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters; and they came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father’s flock.
2:17Then the shepherds came and drove them away; but Moses arose, rescued them, and watered their flock.
2:18And when they came to Reuel their father, he said, “Why have you returned so quickly today?”
2:19And they said, “An Egyptian man rescued us from the hand of the shepherds; he even drew water for us and watered the flock.”
2:20Then he said to his daughters, “Where is he? Why did you leave the man? Call him, that he may eat bread.”
2:21And Moses was willing to dwell with the man, and he gave Zipporah his daughter to Moses.
2:22Then she bore a son, and he named him Gershom, for he said, “I have been a sojourner in a foreign land.”
2:23And it came to pass after many days that the king of Egypt died. And the sons of Israel groaned because of their slavery and cried out; and their cry because of their slavery went up to God.
2:24Then God heard their groaning, and God remembered His covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.
2:25And God saw the sons of Israel, and God knew.

Chapter 3

3:1Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, priest of Midian; and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.
3:2And the Angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of the bush. And he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed.
3:3Then Moses said, “I will turn aside now and see this great sight, why the bush is not burned up.”
3:4When the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses.” And he said, “Here I am.”
3:5Then He said, “Do not come near. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”
3:6He also said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.
3:7Then the LORD said, “I have surely seen the affliction of My people who are in Egypt, and I have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sufferings.
3:8And I have come down to deliver them from the power of the Egyptians and to bring them up from that land to a good and spacious land, to a land flowing with milk and honey—to the place of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites.
3:9And now, behold, the cry of the sons of Israel has come to Me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them.
3:10And now, come, and I will send you to Pharaoh, that you may bring My people, the sons of Israel, out of Egypt.”
3:11But Moses said to God, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt?”
3:12And He said, “Surely I will be with you; and this shall be the sign to you that I have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.”
3:13Then Moses said to God, “Behold, I am coming to the sons of Israel, and I will say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you.’ And they will say to me, ‘What is His Name?’ What shall I say to them?”
3:14Then God said to Moses, “I AM THAT WHICH I AM.” He also said, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”
3:15Then God said again to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel: ‘The LORD, God of your fathers, God of Abraham, God of Isaac, and God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is My Name forever, and this is My memorial from generation to generation.
3:16Go and gather the elders of Israel, and say to them: ‘The LORD, God of your fathers, has appeared to me—the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—saying, “I have surely taken notice of you and of what has been done to you in Egypt.
3:17And I have said, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt to the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, to a land flowing with milk and honey.”’
3:18And they shall listen to your voice; and you shall go, you and the elders of Israel, to the king of Egypt, and you shall say to him: ‘The LORD, God of the Hebrews, has met with us. And now, please let us go a journey of three days into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God.’
3:19But I know that the king of Egypt will not permit you to go unless compelled by a strong hand.
3:20And I will stretch out My hand and strike Egypt with all My wonders that I will do in its midst; and afterward he shall send you away.
3:21And I will give this people favor in the sight of the Egyptians; and when you go, you shall not go empty.
3:22But every woman shall ask from her neighbor, and from the woman sojourning in her house, articles of silver, articles of gold, and garments; and you shall put them upon your sons and your daughters. Thus you shall plunder the Egyptians.”

Chapter 4

4:1Then Moses answered and said, “But suppose they do not believe me or listen to my voice, but say, ‘The LORD has not appeared to you’?”
4:2And the LORD said to him, “What is that in your hand?” And he said, “A rod.”
4:3Then He said, “Cast it on the ground.” And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from it.
4:4Then the LORD said to Moses, “Reach out your hand and grasp it by the tail.” And he reached out his hand and grasped it, and it became a rod in his hand—
4:5“so that they may believe that the LORD, God of their fathers, has appeared to you—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.”
4:6Then the LORD said to him again, “Now put your hand inside your cloak.” And he put his hand inside his cloak; and when he brought it out, behold, his hand was stricken with a skin disease, white as snow.
4:7Then He said, “Put your hand back inside your cloak.” And he put his hand back inside his cloak; and when he brought it out, behold, it was restored like the rest of his flesh.
4:8“And it shall come to pass, if they do not believe you or listen to the voice of the first sign, then they shall believe the voice of the latter sign.
4:9And if they do not believe even these two signs or listen to your voice, then you shall take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry land; and the water you take from the Nile shall become blood on the dry land.”
4:10Then Moses said to the LORD, “O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither in the past nor since You have spoken to Your servant; for I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.”
4:11And the LORD said to him, “Who made man’s mouth? Or who makes him mute or deaf, seeing or blind? Is it not I, the LORD?
4:12And now, go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.”
4:13But he said, “O my Lord, please send by the hand of another.”
4:14Then the anger of the LORD burned against Moses, and He said, “Is not Aaron the Levite your brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he is coming out to meet you; and when he sees you, he will be glad in his heart.
4:15And you shall speak to him and put the words in his mouth; and I will be with your mouth and with his mouth, and will teach you what you shall do.
4:16And he shall speak for you to the people; he shall be your mouth, and you shall be as God to him.
4:17And you shall take this rod in your hand, with which you shall do the signs.”
4:18Then Moses went back to Jethro his father-in-law and said to him, “Please let me go and return to my brothers who are in Egypt, and see whether they are still alive.” And Jethro said to Moses, “Go in peace.”
4:19And the LORD said to Moses in Midian, “Go, return to Egypt, for all the men who sought your life are dead.”
4:20Then Moses took his wife and his sons, set them on the donkey, and returned to the land of Egypt. And Moses took the rod of God in his hand.
4:21And the LORD said to Moses, “When you return to Egypt, see that you perform before Pharaoh all the wonders I have placed in your hand; but I will harden his heart, and he will not send the people away.
4:22And you shall say to Pharaoh, ‘Thus says the LORD: Israel is My son, My firstborn.
4:23And I say to you, Send My son away, that he may serve Me. But if you refuse to send him away, behold, I will kill your son, your firstborn.’”
4:24And it came to pass on the way, at a lodging place, that the LORD met him and sought to put him to death.
4:25Then Zipporah took a flint, cut off her son’s foreskin, touched his feet with it, and said, “Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me.”
4:26So He let him alone. Then she said, “A bridegroom of blood,” because of the circumcision.
4:27Then the LORD said to Aaron, “Go into the wilderness to meet Moses.” And he went and met him on the mountain of God, and kissed him.
4:28And Moses told Aaron all the words of the LORD with which He had sent him, and all the signs He had commanded him to perform.
4:29Then Moses and Aaron went and gathered all the elders of the sons of Israel.
4:30And Aaron spoke all the words the LORD had spoken to Moses, and performed the signs in the sight of the people.
4:31And the people believed when they heard that the LORD had taken notice of the sons of Israel and had seen their affliction; and they bowed down and worshiped.

Chapter 5

5:1And afterward Moses and Aaron went in and said to Pharaoh, “Thus says the LORD, God of Israel: Send My people away, that they may hold a feast to Me in the wilderness.”
5:2But Pharaoh said, “Who is the LORD, that I should listen to His voice and send Israel away? I do not know the LORD, and I will not send Israel away.”
5:3Then they said, “The God of the Hebrews has met with us. Please let us go a journey of three days into the wilderness and sacrifice to the LORD our God, lest He strike us with pestilence or sword.”
5:4But the king of Egypt said to them, “Why do you, Moses and Aaron, draw the people away from their work? Go back to your burdens.”
5:5And Pharaoh said, “Behold, the people of the land are now many, and you make them rest from their burdens.”
5:6And on that day Pharaoh commanded the taskmasters of the people and their foremen, saying,
5:7“You shall no longer give the people straw for making bricks as before. Let them go and gather straw for themselves.
5:8But you shall require from them the same quota of bricks they made before; you shall not reduce it. For they are idle; therefore they cry, saying, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to our God.’
5:9Let heavier labor be laid on the men, that they may work at it and pay no attention to false words.”
5:10Then the taskmasters of the people and their foremen went out and spoke to the people, saying, “Thus says Pharaoh: ‘I will give you no straw.
5:11Go yourselves and get straw wherever you can find it, but none of your work shall be reduced.’”
5:12So the people were scattered throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble in place of straw.
5:13And the taskmasters pressed them, saying, “Complete your work, the daily quota, just as when there was straw.”
5:14And the foremen of the sons of Israel, whom Pharaoh’s taskmasters had appointed over them, were beaten and asked, “Why have you not completed your quota of bricks as before, either yesterday or today?”
5:15Then the foremen of the sons of Israel went in and cried to Pharaoh, saying, “Why do you deal thus with your servants?
5:16No straw is given to your servants, yet they say to us, ‘Make bricks!’ And behold, your servants are beaten, but the fault lies with your own people.”
5:17But he said, “Idle! You are idle! Therefore you say, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to the LORD.’
5:18And now, go and work. No straw shall be given to you, yet you shall deliver the required quota of bricks.”
5:19And the foremen of the sons of Israel saw that they were in trouble when they were told, “You shall not reduce your daily quota of bricks.”
5:20Then they met Moses and Aaron, who were standing to meet them as they came out from Pharaoh.
5:21And they said to them, “May the LORD look upon you and judge, because you have made us a stench in the sight of Pharaoh and his servants, putting a sword in their hand to kill us.”
5:22Then Moses returned to the LORD and said, “Lord, why have You brought harm upon this people? Why did You ever send me?
5:23For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in Your Name, he has done harm to this people, and You have not delivered Your people at all.”

Chapter 6

6:1Then the LORD said to Moses, “Now you shall see what I will do to Pharaoh; for because of a strong hand he will send them away, and because of a strong hand he will drive them out of his land.”
6:2And God spoke to Moses and said to him, “I am the LORD.
6:3And I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as God Almighty; but by My Name, the LORD, I was not known to them.
6:4I also established My covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land in which they lived as sojourners.
6:5And I also have heard the groaning of the sons of Israel, whom the Egyptians have enslaved, and I have remembered My covenant.
6:6Therefore say to the sons of Israel: ‘I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, deliver you from their slavery, and redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments.
6:7And I will take you as My people, and I will be your God; and you shall know that I am the LORD your God, who brings you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.
6:8And I will bring you to the land I swore with uplifted hand to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; and I will give it to you as a possession. I am the LORD.’”
6:9And Moses spoke thus to the sons of Israel, but they did not listen to Moses because of anguish of spirit and harsh labor.
6:10Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
6:11“Go and speak to Pharaoh king of Egypt, that he may send the sons of Israel out of his land.”
6:12But Moses spoke before the LORD, saying, “Behold, the sons of Israel have not listened to me; how then will Pharaoh listen to me, since I am of uncircumcised lips?”
6:13And the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, and commanded them concerning the sons of Israel and Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring the sons of Israel out of the land of Egypt.
6:14These are the heads of their fathers’ houses. The sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel: Enoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi; these are the families of Reuben.
6:15And the sons of Simeon: Nemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zerah, and Shaul son of a Canaanite woman; these are the families of Simeon.
6:16And these are the names of the sons of Levi according to their generations: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari; and the years of Levi’s life were one hundred and thirty-seven years.
6:17The sons of Gershon: Libni and Shimei, according to their families.
6:18And the sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel; and the years of Kohath’s life were one hundred and thirty-three years.
6:19And the sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi; these are the families of Levi according to their generations.
6:20Then Amram took his aunt Jochebed as his wife, and she bore him Aaron and Moses; and the years of Amram’s life were one hundred and thirty-seven years.
6:21And the sons of Izhar: Korah, Nepheg, and Zichri.
6:22And the sons of Uzziel: Mishael, Elzaphan, and Sithri.
6:23Then Aaron took Elisheba daughter of Amminadab, sister of Nahshon, as his wife; and she bore him Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.
6:24And the sons of Korah: Assir, Elkanah, and Abiasaph; these are the families of the Korahites.
6:25And Eleazar, Aaron’s son, took one of the daughters of Putiel as his wife; and she bore him Phinehas. These are the heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites according to their families.
6:26This is Aaron and Moses, to whom the LORD said, “Bring out the sons of Israel from the land of Egypt according to their divisions.”
6:27These are the ones who spoke to Pharaoh king of Egypt to bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt. This is Moses and Aaron.
6:28And it came to pass on the day when the LORD spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt,
6:29that the LORD said to Moses, “I am the LORD. Speak to Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I speak to you.”
6:30But Moses said before the LORD, “Behold, I am of uncircumcised lips, and how will Pharaoh listen to me?”

Chapter 7

7:1Then the LORD said to Moses, “See, I have made you as a god to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother shall be your prophet.
7:2You shall speak all that I command you, and Aaron your brother shall speak to Pharaoh, that he may send the sons of Israel out of his land.
7:3But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart and multiply My signs and My wonders in the land of Egypt.
7:4And Pharaoh will not listen to you; and I will lay My hand upon Egypt and bring out My divisions—My people, the sons of Israel—from the land of Egypt by great judgments.
7:5And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD when I stretch out My hand against Egypt and bring out the sons of Israel from their midst.”
7:6Then Moses and Aaron did so; as the LORD commanded them, so they did.
7:7And Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron eighty-three years old, when they spoke to Pharaoh.
7:8Then the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,
7:9“When Pharaoh speaks to you, saying, ‘Perform a wonder,’ then you shall say to Aaron, ‘Take your rod and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent.’”
7:10Then Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and they did as the LORD had commanded. And Aaron cast his rod before Pharaoh and his servants, and it became a serpent.
7:11Then Pharaoh also called for the wise men and the sorcerers; and the magicians of Egypt also did the same by their secret arts.
7:12Each man cast down his rod, and they became serpents; but Aaron’s rod swallowed their rods.
7:13And Pharaoh’s heart grew hard, and he did not listen to them, as the LORD had spoken.
7:14Then the LORD said to Moses, “Pharaoh’s heart is stubborn; he refuses to send the people away.
7:15Go to Pharaoh in the morning. Behold, he is going out to the water; and you shall stand to meet him by the bank of the Nile. And the rod that was turned into a serpent you shall take in your hand.
7:16And you shall say to him: ‘The LORD, God of the Hebrews, has sent me to you, saying, “Send My people away, that they may serve Me in the wilderness.” But behold, you have not listened until now.
7:17Thus says the LORD: “By this you shall know that I am the LORD. Behold, with the rod in my hand I will strike the waters of the Nile, and they shall be turned to blood.
7:18And the fish in the Nile shall die, and the Nile shall stink; and the Egyptians shall be unable to drink water from the Nile.”’”
7:19Then the LORD said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Take your rod and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt—over their streams, their canals, their ponds, and every reservoir of water—that they may become blood. And there shall be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, even in vessels of wood and vessels of stone.’”
7:20Then Moses and Aaron did so, as the LORD had commanded; and Aaron lifted up the rod and struck the waters of the Nile in the sight of Pharaoh and his servants. And all the waters of the Nile were turned to blood.
7:21And the fish in the Nile died, and the Nile stank, and the Egyptians were unable to drink water from the Nile; and there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt.
7:22Then the magicians of Egypt did the same by their secret arts; and Pharaoh’s heart grew hard, and he did not listen to them, as the LORD had spoken.
7:23Then Pharaoh turned and went into his house, and he did not take even this to heart.
7:24And all the Egyptians dug around the Nile for water to drink, for they were unable to drink the water of the Nile.
7:25And seven days passed after the LORD struck the Nile.
7:26Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘Thus says the LORD: Send My people away, that they may serve Me.
7:27But if you refuse to send them away, behold, I will strike all your territory with frogs.
7:28And the Nile shall swarm with frogs, and they shall come up into your house, into your bedroom and upon your bed, into the houses of your servants and upon your people, and into your ovens and kneading troughs.
7:29And the frogs shall come up upon you, upon your people, and upon all your servants.’”

Chapter 8

8:1Then the LORD said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Stretch out your hand with your rod over the streams, canals, and ponds, and cause frogs to come up upon the land of Egypt.’”
8:2Then Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and the frogs came up and covered the land of Egypt.
8:3And the magicians did the same by their secret arts, and caused frogs to come up upon the land of Egypt.
8:4Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, “Plead with the LORD, that He may remove the frogs from me and from my people; and I will send the people away, that they may sacrifice to the LORD.”
8:5Then Moses said to Pharaoh, “Have the honor of naming the time: when shall I plead for you, your servants, and your people, that the frogs may be cut off from you and your houses and remain only in the Nile?”
8:6And he said, “Tomorrow.” Then Moses said, “It shall be according to your word, so that you may know that there is none like the LORD our God.
8:7The frogs shall depart from you, your houses, your servants, and your people; they shall remain only in the Nile.”
8:8Then Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh, and Moses cried to the LORD concerning the frogs He had brought upon Pharaoh.
8:9And the LORD did according to the word of Moses; the frogs died in the houses, the courtyards, and the fields.
8:10And they heaped them together in heaps, and the land stank.
8:11But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief, he hardened his heart and did not listen to them, as the LORD had spoken.
8:12Then the LORD said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Stretch out your rod and strike the dust of the land, and it shall become gnats throughout all the land of Egypt.’”
8:13And they did so. Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod and struck the dust of the land, and the gnats came upon man and beast; all the dust of the land became gnats throughout all the land of Egypt.
8:14And the magicians tried by their secret arts to bring forth gnats, but they could not; and the gnats were upon man and beast.
8:15Then the magicians said to Pharaoh, “This is the finger of God.” But Pharaoh’s heart grew hard, and he did not listen to them, as the LORD had spoken.
8:16Then the LORD said to Moses, “Rise early in the morning and station yourself before Pharaoh. Behold, he is going out to the Nile; and you shall say to him, ‘Thus says the LORD: Send My people away, that they may serve Me.
8:17For if you refuse to send My people away, behold, I will send swarms against you, your servants, your people, and your houses; and the houses of the Egyptians shall be filled with swarms, and even the ground on which they stand.
8:18But on that day I will set apart the land of Goshen, where My people dwell, so that no swarms shall be there, that you may know that I am the LORD in the midst of the land.
8:19And I will make a distinction between My people and your people. Tomorrow this sign shall be.’”
8:20And the LORD did so. Dense swarms came into Pharaoh’s house and his servants’ houses, and throughout Egypt the land was ruined because of the swarms.
8:21Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, “Go, sacrifice to your God within the land.”
8:22But Moses said, “It is not right to do so, for we would sacrifice to the LORD our God what is an abomination to the Egyptians. Behold, if we sacrifice before their eyes what is an abomination to them, will they not stone us?
8:23We will go a three days’ journey into the wilderness and sacrifice to the LORD our God, as He tells us.”
8:24Then Pharaoh said, “I will send you away, and you shall sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness; only you shall not go very far away. Plead for me.”
8:25And Moses said, “Behold, I am going out from you, and I will plead with the LORD; tomorrow the swarms shall depart from Pharaoh, his servants, and his people. Only let Pharaoh not act deceitfully again by refusing to send the people away to sacrifice to the LORD.”
8:26Then Moses went out from Pharaoh and pleaded with the LORD.
8:27And the LORD did according to the word of Moses and removed the swarms from Pharaoh, his servants, and his people; not one remained.
8:28But Pharaoh hardened his heart this time also, and did not send the people away.

Chapter 9

9:1Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh and speak to him: ‘Thus says the LORD, God of the Hebrews: Send My people away, that they may serve Me.
9:2For if you refuse to send them away and still hold them,
9:3behold, the hand of the LORD shall be upon your livestock in the field—upon the horses, donkeys, camels, herds, and flocks—a very severe pestilence.
9:4And the LORD shall make a distinction between the livestock of Israel and the livestock of Egypt, and nothing shall die of all that belongs to the sons of Israel.’”
9:5Then the LORD set an appointed time, saying, “Tomorrow the LORD will do this thing in the land.”
9:6And the LORD did this thing on the next day, and all the livestock of Egypt died; but not one of the livestock of the sons of Israel died.
9:7Then Pharaoh sent, and behold, not even one of the livestock of Israel had died. But Pharaoh’s heart remained stubborn, and he did not send the people away.
9:8Then the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “Take handfuls of soot from a furnace, and let Moses toss it toward the heavens in the sight of Pharaoh.
9:9And it shall become fine dust over all the land of Egypt, and become boils breaking out in blisters upon man and beast throughout all the land of Egypt.”
9:10So they took soot from the furnace and stood before Pharaoh; and Moses tossed it toward the heavens, and it became boils breaking out in blisters upon man and beast.
9:11And the magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils, for the boils were upon the magicians and upon all the Egyptians.
9:12And the LORD hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he did not listen to them, as the LORD had spoken to Moses.
9:13Then the LORD said to Moses, “Rise early in the morning and station yourself before Pharaoh, and say to him, ‘Thus says the LORD, God of the Hebrews: Send My people away, that they may serve Me.
9:14For this time I am sending all My plagues upon you yourself, upon your servants, and upon your people, so that you may know that there is none like Me in all the earth.
9:15For by now I could have stretched out My hand and struck you and your people with pestilence, and you would have been cut off from the earth.
9:16But for this very purpose I have raised you up: to show you My power, and that My Name may be declared throughout all the earth.
9:17Still you exalt yourself against My people by refusing to send them away.
9:18Behold, about this time tomorrow I will rain down very severe hail, such as has not been in Egypt from the day it was founded until now.
9:19Now therefore send and bring your livestock and all that you have in the field to safety. Every man and beast found in the field and not gathered into the house—the hail shall come down upon them, and they shall die.’”
9:20Whoever among Pharaoh’s servants feared the word of the LORD brought his servants and livestock into the houses.
9:21But whoever did not take the word of the LORD to heart left his servants and livestock in the field.
9:22Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward the heavens, that there may be hail throughout all the land of Egypt—upon man and beast, and upon every plant of the field in the land of Egypt.”
9:23And Moses stretched out his rod toward the heavens, and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and lightning flashed toward the earth; and the LORD rained hail upon the land of Egypt.
9:24So there was hail, with lightning flashing continually within the hail, very severe, such as had not been throughout all the land of Egypt since it became a nation.
9:25And the hail struck all that was in the field throughout all the land of Egypt, from man to beast; the hail struck every plant of the field and broke every tree of the field.
9:26Only in the land of Goshen, where the sons of Israel were, there was no hail.
9:27Then Pharaoh sent and called for Moses and Aaron, and said to them, “I have sinned this time. The LORD is righteous, and I and my people are wicked.
9:28Plead with the LORD, for there has been enough of God’s thunder and hail; and I will send you away, and you shall remain no longer.”
9:29And Moses said to him, “When I go out of the city, I will spread out my hands to the LORD. The thunder shall cease, and there shall be no more hail, so that you may know that the earth is the LORD’s.
9:30But as for you and your servants, I know that you do not yet fear the LORD God.”
9:31Now the flax and the barley were struck, for the barley was in the ear and the flax was in bloom.
9:32But the wheat and the spelt were not struck, for they were late crops.
9:33Then Moses went out from Pharaoh and from the city, and spread out his hands to the LORD; and the thunder and hail ceased, and the rain was no longer poured upon the earth.
9:34But when Pharaoh saw that the rain, hail, and thunder had ceased, he sinned yet more and hardened his heart, he and his servants.
9:35And Pharaoh’s heart grew hard, and he did not send the sons of Israel away, as the LORD had spoken by Moses.

Chapter 10

10:1Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the hearts of his servants, that I may set these signs of Mine among them,
10:2and that you may recount in the hearing of your son and your son’s son how I dealt with Egypt, and My signs which I set among them, that you may know that I am the LORD.”
10:3Then Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh and said to him, “Thus says the LORD, God of the Hebrews: How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me? Send My people away, that they may serve Me.
10:4For if you refuse to send My people away, behold, tomorrow I will bring locusts into your territory.
10:5And they shall cover the surface of the land, so that no one can see the land; and they shall eat the remnant that escaped, what was left to you from the hail, and shall eat every tree growing for you in the field.
10:6And they shall fill your houses, the houses of all your servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians—such as neither your fathers nor their fathers before them have seen, from the day they first lived upon the earth until this day.’” Then he turned and went out from Pharaoh.
10:7And Pharaoh’s servants said to him, “How long shall this man be a snare to us? Send the men away, that they may serve the LORD their God. Do you not yet know that Egypt is ruined?”
10:8Then Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh, and he said to them, “Go, serve the LORD your God. Who exactly will go?”
10:9And Moses said, “We will go with our young and our old, with our sons and our daughters, with our flocks and our herds; for we have a feast to the LORD.”
10:10Then he said to them, “May the LORD be with you when I send you and your children away! See, for evil is before you.
10:11Not so. Go now, you men, and serve the LORD, for that is what you are seeking.” And they were driven out from Pharaoh’s presence.
10:12Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come up upon the land of Egypt and eat every plant of the land—all that the hail has left.”
10:13And Moses stretched out his rod over the land of Egypt, and the LORD drove an east wind over the land all that day and all that night. When morning came, the east wind brought the locusts.
10:14And the locusts came up over all the land of Egypt and settled throughout all the territory of Egypt—very severe. Never before had there been such locusts as these, nor shall there ever be again.
10:15For they covered the surface of all the land, so that the land was darkened; and they ate every plant of the land and all the fruit of the trees that the hail had left. No green thing remained on tree or plant of the field throughout all the land of Egypt.
10:16Then Pharaoh hurried to call for Moses and Aaron, and said, “I have sinned against the LORD your God and against you.
10:17Now therefore, please forgive my sin just this once, and plead with the LORD your God, that He may remove from me this death.”
10:18Then Moses went out from Pharaoh and pleaded with the LORD.
10:19And the LORD turned a very strong west wind, and it lifted the locusts and drove them into the Sea of Reeds. Not one locust remained throughout all the territory of Egypt.
10:20But the LORD hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he did not send the sons of Israel away.
10:21Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward the heavens, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt—a darkness that may be felt.”
10:22And Moses stretched out his hand toward the heavens, and there was thick darkness throughout all the land of Egypt for three days.
10:23They did not see one another, nor did anyone rise from his place for three days; but all the sons of Israel had light in their dwellings.
10:24Then Pharaoh called to Moses and said, “Go, serve the LORD; only your flocks and your herds must remain behind. Your children also may go with you.”
10:25But Moses said, “You must also provide us with sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may offer them to the LORD our God.
10:26Our livestock also shall go with us; not a hoof shall be left behind, for we must take from them to serve the LORD our God. And we do not know with what we shall serve the LORD until we arrive there.”
10:27But the LORD hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he was unwilling to send them away.
10:28Then Pharaoh said to him, “Go from me. Take care not to see my face again, for on the day you see my face, you shall die.”
10:29And Moses said, “You have spoken rightly. I will not see your face again.”

Chapter 11

11:1Then the LORD said to Moses, “I will bring one more plague upon Pharaoh and upon Egypt. Afterward he will send you away from here; when he sends you away, he will drive you out from here altogether.
11:2Now speak in the hearing of the people, and let each man ask of his neighbor, and each woman of her neighbor, articles of silver and articles of gold.”
11:3And the LORD gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover, the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh’s servants and in the sight of the people.
11:4Then Moses said, “Thus says the LORD: About midnight I will go out into the midst of Egypt,
11:5and every firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne to the firstborn of the maidservant who is behind the handmill, and every firstborn of the beasts.
11:6And there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there has never been, nor shall ever be again.
11:7But against any of the sons of Israel, not even a dog shall growl at man or beast, that you may know that the LORD makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.
11:8And all these servants of yours shall come down to me and bow themselves before me, saying, ‘Go out, you and all the people who are at your feet.’ And afterward I will go out.” Then he went out from Pharaoh in hot anger.
11:9And the LORD said to Moses, “Pharaoh will not listen to you, so that My wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt.”
11:10And Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh; but the LORD hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he did not send the sons of Israel out of his land.

Chapter 12

12:1Then the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying,
12:2“This month shall be for you the beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year for you.
12:3Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying, ‘On the tenth day of this month, each man shall take for himself a lamb for his father’s household, a lamb for each household.
12:4And if the household is too small for a lamb, then he and his nearest neighbor shall take one according to the number of persons; you shall count each one for the lamb according to what he eats.
12:5Your lamb shall be unblemished, a male one year old; you shall take it from the sheep or from the goats.
12:6And you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month; then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall slaughter it at twilight.
12:7And they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses in which they eat it.
12:8And they shall eat the flesh that night, roasted with fire; with unleavened bread and bitter herbs they shall eat it.
12:9You shall not eat any of it raw or boiled in water, but roasted with fire—its head with its legs and inner parts.
12:10And you shall leave none of it until morning; but whatever remains of it until morning you shall burn with fire.
12:11And thus you shall eat it: your belt fastened around your waist, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and you shall eat it in haste. It is the LORD’s Passover.
12:12For I will pass through the land of Egypt on this night and strike every firstborn in the land of Egypt, from man to beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments. I am the LORD.
12:13And the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. When I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague shall fall upon you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.
12:14And this day shall be a memorial for you, and you shall keep it as a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; you shall keep it as a feast, as an enduring statute.
12:15Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread. On the first day you shall remove leaven from your houses; for whoever eats anything leavened from the first day until the seventh day, that person shall be cut off from Israel.
12:16And on the first day there shall be a holy assembly, and on the seventh day a holy assembly. No work shall be done on those days, except what every person must eat; that alone may be prepared by you.
12:17And you shall observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread, for on this very day I brought your divisions out from the land of Egypt; therefore you shall observe this day throughout your generations by an enduring statute.
12:18In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at evening, you shall eat unleavened bread until the twenty-first day of the month at evening.
12:19For seven days no leaven shall be found in your houses; for whoever eats anything leavened, that person shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether a sojourner or a native of the land.
12:20You shall eat nothing leavened; in all your dwellings you shall eat unleavened bread.’”
12:21Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel and said to them, “Select and take lambs from the flock for your families, and slaughter the Passover sacrifice.
12:22And you shall take a bunch of hyssop, dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and apply the blood in the basin to the lintel and the two doorposts. None of you shall go out of the door of his house until morning.
12:23For the LORD will pass through to strike the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the LORD will pass over the door and will not allow the destroyer to enter your houses to strike you.
12:24And you shall observe this word as a statute for you and your sons forever.
12:25And it shall be, when you come to the land that the LORD will give you, as He has spoken, that you shall keep this observance.
12:26And it shall come to pass, when your sons say to you, ‘What does this observance mean to you?’
12:27that you shall say, ‘It is the Passover sacrifice to the LORD, who passed over the houses of the sons of Israel in Egypt when He struck the Egyptians and delivered our houses.’” Then the people bowed down and worshiped.
12:28And the sons of Israel went and did as the LORD had commanded Moses and Aaron; so they did.
12:29And it came to pass at midnight that the LORD struck every firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive in the dungeon, and every firstborn of the beasts.
12:30Then Pharaoh rose in the night, he and all his servants and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt, for there was no house where there was not one dead.
12:31And he called for Moses and Aaron by night, and said, “Rise, go out from the midst of my people, both you and the sons of Israel; and go, serve the LORD according to your word.
12:32Take your flocks and your herds, as you have spoken, and go; and bless me also.”
12:33And the Egyptians urged the people, hastening to send them out of the land, for they said, “We are all dead.”
12:34So the people took their dough before it was leavened, their kneading bowls wrapped in their garments upon their shoulders.
12:35And the sons of Israel did according to the word of Moses, and asked from the Egyptians articles of silver and gold, and garments.
12:36And the LORD gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they granted what they asked; thus they plundered the Egyptians.
12:37Then the sons of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, apart from the children.
12:38And a great mixed multitude also went up with them, along with flocks and herds—very much livestock.
12:39And they baked unleavened cakes from the dough they had brought out of Egypt, for it was not leavened; because they had been driven out of Egypt and could not delay, nor had they prepared provisions for themselves.
12:40Now the sojourning of the sons of Israel, who dwelt in Egypt, was four hundred and thirty years.
12:41And it came to pass at the end of four hundred and thirty years—on that very day—that all the divisions of the LORD went out from the land of Egypt.
12:42It was a night of vigil to the LORD for bringing them out from the land of Egypt; this is that night of the LORD, a vigil to be kept by all the sons of Israel throughout their generations.
12:43Then the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “This is the statute of the Passover: no foreigner shall eat of it.
12:44But every slave bought with money may eat of it after you have circumcised him.
12:45A temporary resident or hired servant shall not eat of it.
12:46It shall be eaten in one house; you shall not carry any of the flesh outside the house, nor shall you break a bone of it.
12:47All the congregation of Israel shall keep it.
12:48And when a sojourner sojourns with you and wishes to keep the Passover to the LORD, every male of his shall be circumcised; then he may come near and keep it, and he shall be as a native of the land. But no uncircumcised person shall eat of it.
12:49One law shall be for the native and for the sojourner who sojourns among you.”
12:50Then all the sons of Israel did as the LORD commanded Moses and Aaron; so they did.
12:51And it came to pass on that very day that the LORD brought the sons of Israel out from the land of Egypt by their divisions.

Chapter 13

13:1And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
13:2“Set apart to Me every firstborn, whatever opens the womb among the sons of Israel, both of man and beast; it is Mine.”
13:3Then Moses said to the people, “Remember this day on which you went out from Egypt, from the house of slavery; for by a strong hand the LORD brought you out from this place. And nothing leavened shall be eaten.
13:4Today you are going out, in the month of Abib.
13:5And it shall be, when the LORD brings you into the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Hivites, and Jebusites, which He swore to your fathers to give you—a land flowing with milk and honey—that you shall keep this observance in this month.
13:6Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day there shall be a feast to the LORD.
13:7Unleavened bread shall be eaten for seven days, and nothing leavened shall be seen among you; nor shall leaven be seen among you throughout all your territory.
13:8And you shall tell your son on that day, saying, ‘It is because of what the LORD did for me when I came out of Egypt.’
13:9And it shall be to you as a sign on your hand and as a memorial between your eyes, that the Law of the LORD may be in your mouth; for by a strong hand the LORD brought you out of Egypt.
13:10Therefore you shall keep this statute at its appointed time year after year.
13:11And it shall be, when the LORD brings you into the land of the Canaanites, as He swore to you and to your fathers, and gives it to you,
13:12that you shall set apart to the LORD everything that opens the womb, and every firstborn male born to your livestock; the males belong to the LORD.
13:13But every firstborn donkey you shall redeem with a lamb; and if you do not redeem it, then you shall break its neck. And every firstborn among your sons you shall redeem.
13:14And it shall be, when your son asks you in time to come, saying, ‘What is this?’ that you shall say to him, ‘By a strong hand the LORD brought us out from Egypt, from the house of slavery.
13:15And when Pharaoh stubbornly refused to send us away, the LORD killed every firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of man to the firstborn of beast. Therefore I sacrifice to the LORD every male that opens the womb, but every firstborn of my sons I redeem.
13:16And it shall be as a sign on your hand and as bands between your eyes; for by a strong hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt.’”
13:17And it came to pass, when Pharaoh sent the people away, that God did not lead them by the way of the land of the Philistines, though it was near; for God said, “Lest the people change their minds when they see war and return to Egypt.”
13:18So God led the people around by the way of the wilderness toward the Sea of Reeds; and the sons of Israel went up from the land of Egypt in battle array.
13:19And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for Joseph had surely made the sons of Israel swear, saying, “God will surely take notice of you, and you shall carry up my bones from here with you.”
13:20Then they journeyed from Succoth and encamped in Etham, at the edge of the wilderness.
13:21And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud, to lead them on the way, and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night.
13:22He did not remove the pillar of cloud by day or the pillar of fire by night from before the people.

Chapter 14

14:1And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
14:2“Speak to the sons of Israel, that they turn back and encamp before Pi-Hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, before Ba‘al-Zephon; you shall encamp opposite it by the sea.
14:3And Pharaoh will say of the sons of Israel, ‘They are entangled in the land; the wilderness has shut them in.’
14:4And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and he will pursue them; and I will gain glory over Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD.” And they did so.
14:5When it was reported to the king of Egypt that the people had fled, the heart of Pharaoh and his servants turned against the people, and they said, “What is this we have done, that we have released Israel from laboring for us?”
14:6Then he harnessed his chariot and took his people with him.
14:7And he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt, with officers over them all.
14:8And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued the sons of Israel, while the sons of Israel were going out boldly.
14:9Then the Egyptians pursued them, and all Pharaoh’s horses and chariots, his horsemen and his army, overtook them as they encamped by the sea, by Pi-Hahiroth, before Ba‘al-Zephon.
14:10And as Pharaoh drew near, the sons of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them; and they were greatly afraid, and the sons of Israel cried to the LORD.
14:11Then they said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you took us away to die in the wilderness? What is this you have done to us, bringing us out of Egypt?
14:12Is this not the word we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, ‘Leave us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.”
14:13But Moses said to the people, “Do not fear. Stand firm and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will work for you today; for the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again.
14:14The LORD will fight for you, and you shall remain silent.”
14:15Then the LORD said to Moses, “Why do you cry to Me? Speak to the sons of Israel, that they go forward.
14:16But you, lift up your rod and stretch out your hand over the sea and split it, that the sons of Israel may go into the midst of the sea on dry ground.
14:17And behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall go in after them; and I will gain glory over Pharaoh and all his army, over his chariots and his horsemen.
14:18And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I gain glory over Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen.”
14:19Then the Angel of God, who had been going before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud moved from before them and stood behind them.
14:20And it came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel; there was the cloud and the darkness, yet it lit up the night. And neither camp came near the other all night.
14:21Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the LORD drove the sea back by a strong east wind all night and turned the sea into dry ground; and the waters were divided.
14:22And the sons of Israel went into the midst of the sea on dry ground, and the waters were a wall to them on their right and on their left.
14:23Then the Egyptians pursued and went in after them—all Pharaoh’s horses, his chariots, and his horsemen—into the midst of the sea.
14:24And it came to pass in the morning watch that the LORD looked down upon the camp of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and cloud, and threw the camp of the Egyptians into confusion.
14:25And He hindered their chariot wheels, so that they drove with difficulty; and the Egyptians said, “Let us flee from Israel, for the LORD is fighting for them against the Egyptians.”
14:26Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the waters may return upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots and their horsemen.”
14:27And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and at the turning of the morning the sea returned to its normal course. The Egyptians fled before it, but the LORD shook the Egyptians off into the midst of the sea.
14:28And the waters returned and covered the chariots and horsemen, even all Pharaoh’s army that had gone into the sea after them; not even one of them remained.
14:29But the sons of Israel walked on dry ground in the midst of the sea, and the waters were a wall to them on their right and on their left.
14:30Thus the LORD saved Israel that day from the power of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore.
14:31And Israel saw the great hand that the LORD had exercised against the Egyptians; and the people feared the LORD and believed in the LORD and in His servant Moses.

Chapter 15

15:1Then Moses and the sons of Israel sang this song to the LORD, saying, “I will sing to the LORD, for He has triumphed gloriously; the horse and its rider He has thrown into the sea.
15:2The LORD is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation. This is my God, and I will praise Him; my father’s God, and I will exalt Him.
15:3The LORD is a warrior; the LORD is His Name.
15:4Pharaoh’s chariots and his army He has cast into the sea; the choicest of his officers have sunk in the Sea of Reeds.
15:5The deep waters cover them; they went down into the depths like a stone.
15:6Your right hand, O LORD, is majestic in power; Your right hand, O LORD, shatters the enemy.
15:7And in the greatness of Your majesty, You overthrow those who rise against You; You send forth Your burning anger—it consumes them like stubble.
15:8At the blast of Your nostrils, the waters piled up; the surging waters stood upright like a heap; the deep waters congealed in the heart of the sea.
15:9The enemy said, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake; I will divide the spoil; I will have my fill of them. I will draw my sword; my hand shall destroy them.’
15:10You blew with Your breath; the sea covered them; they sank like lead in the mighty waters.
15:11Who is like You among the gods, O LORD? Who is like You—majestic in holiness, awesome in praises, doing wonders?
15:12You stretched out Your right hand; the earth swallowed them.
15:13In Your steadfast love You have led the people whom You redeemed; in Your strength You have guided them to Your holy dwelling.
15:14The peoples have heard; they tremble. Anguish has seized the inhabitants of Philistia.
15:15Then the chiefs of Edom were dismayed; the leaders of Moab—trembling seizes them. All the inhabitants of Canaan have melted away.
15:16Terror and dread fall upon them; by the greatness of Your arm they are still as a stone, until Your people pass over, O LORD, until the people pass over whom You have acquired.
15:17You will bring them in and plant them on the mountain of Your inheritance, the place You made for Your dwelling, O LORD; the sanctuary, O Lord, which Your hands established.
15:18The LORD reigns forever and ever.”
15:19For Pharaoh’s horses went into the sea with his chariots and horsemen, and the LORD brought the waters of the sea back upon them; but the sons of Israel walked on dry ground in the midst of the sea.
15:20Then Miriam the prophetess, Aaron’s sister, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women went out after her with tambourines and dancing.
15:21And Miriam answered them in song: “Sing to the LORD, for He has triumphed gloriously; the horse and its rider He has thrown into the sea.”
15:22Then Moses led Israel onward from the Sea of Reeds, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur. They went three days in the wilderness and found no water.
15:23Then they came to Marah, but they could not drink the waters of Marah, for they were bitter; therefore its name was called Marah.
15:24And the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?”
15:25Then he cried to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a piece of wood; and he cast it into the waters, and the waters became sweet. There He made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there He tested them.
15:26And He said, “If you diligently listen to the voice of the LORD your God, and do what is right in His sight, and give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will lay none of the diseases upon you that I laid upon the Egyptians; for I am the LORD who heals you.”
15:27Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees; and they encamped there by the waters.

Chapter 16

16:1Then they set out from Elim, and all the congregation of the sons of Israel came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after they had gone out from the land of Egypt.
16:2And all the congregation of the sons of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness.
16:3And the sons of Israel said to them, “If only we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat and ate bread to the full; for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.”
16:4Then the LORD said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain bread from the heavens for you; and the people shall go out and gather a day’s portion each day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in My law or not.
16:5And on the sixth day, when they prepare what they bring in, it shall be twice as much as they gather day by day.”
16:6Then Moses and Aaron said to all the sons of Israel, “At evening you shall know that the LORD has brought you out from the land of Egypt.
16:7And in the morning you shall see the glory of the LORD, for He hears your grumblings against the LORD. And what are we, that you grumble against us?”
16:8And Moses said, “When the LORD gives you meat to eat in the evening and bread in the morning to the full, then you shall know that the LORD hears your grumblings which you grumble against Him. And what are we? Your grumblings are not against us, but against the LORD.”
16:9Then Moses said to Aaron, “Say to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, ‘Come near before the LORD, for He has heard your grumblings.’”
16:10And as Aaron spoke to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, they turned toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud.
16:11And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
16:12“I have heard the grumblings of the sons of Israel. Speak to them, saying, ‘At twilight you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread; and you shall know that I am the LORD your God.’”
16:13And it came to pass in the evening that quail came up and covered the camp; and in the morning a layer of dew lay around the camp.
16:14And when the layer of dew had evaporated, behold, upon the face of the wilderness was a fine, flake-like thing, fine as frost upon the ground.
16:15When the sons of Israel saw it, they said to one another, “What is it?” For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, “It is the bread which the LORD has given you for food.
16:16This is what the LORD has commanded: ‘Gather from it, each according to how much he can eat, an omer per person, according to the number of persons each of you has in his tent.’”
16:17And the sons of Israel did so; some gathered much, and some little.
16:18And when they measured it with an omer, whoever had gathered much had nothing left over, and whoever had gathered little had no lack; each had gathered according to how much he could eat.
16:19Then Moses said to them, “Let no one leave any of it until morning.”
16:20But they did not listen to Moses, and some left part of it until morning; and it bred worms and stank. And Moses was angry with them.
16:21And they gathered it morning by morning, each according to how much he could eat; and when the sun grew hot, it melted.
16:22And on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers per person; and all the leaders of the congregation came and told Moses.
16:23Then he said to them, “This is what the LORD has spoken: Tomorrow is a day of rest, a holy Sabbath to the LORD. Whatever you bake, bake; and whatever you boil, boil; and lay aside for yourselves all that remains, to be kept until morning.”
16:24And they laid it aside until morning, as Moses had commanded; and it did not stink, and there was no worm in it.
16:25Then Moses said, “Eat it today, for today is a Sabbath to the LORD; today you shall not find it in the field.
16:26Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there shall be none.”
16:27And it came to pass on the seventh day that some of the people went out to gather, but they found none.
16:28Then the LORD said to Moses, “How long will you refuse to keep My commandments and My laws?
16:29See, the LORD has given you the Sabbath; therefore on the sixth day He gives you bread for two days. Let each man remain in his place; let no one go out from his place on the seventh day.”
16:30So the people rested on the seventh day.
16:31And the house of Israel called it manna. It was like coriander seed, white, and its taste was like wafers made with honey.
16:32Then Moses said, “This is what the LORD has commanded: ‘Keep a full omer of it throughout your generations, that they may see the bread which I fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you out from the land of Egypt.’”
16:33And Moses said to Aaron, “Take a jar, put a full omer of manna in it, and place it before the LORD, to be kept throughout your generations.”
16:34As the LORD had commanded Moses, so Aaron placed it before the Testimony, to be kept.
16:35And the sons of Israel ate manna forty years, until they came to an inhabited land; they ate manna until they came to the border of the land of Canaan.
16:36And an omer is a tenth of an ephah.

Chapter 17

17:1Then all the congregation of the sons of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, stage by stage, according to the command of the LORD, and encamped at Rephidim; but there was no water for the people to drink.
17:2Therefore the people quarreled with Moses and said, “Give us water, that we may drink.” And Moses said to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test the LORD?”
17:3But the people thirsted there for water; and the people grumbled against Moses and said, “Why did you bring us up out of Egypt, to kill us, our children, and our livestock with thirst?”
17:4Then Moses cried to the LORD, saying, “What shall I do with this people? They are almost ready to stone me.”
17:5And the LORD said to Moses, “Pass before the people, and take some of the elders of Israel with you; and take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go.
17:6Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water shall come out from it, and the people shall drink.” And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
17:7And he called the name of the place Massah and Meribah, because of the quarrel of the sons of Israel, and because they tested the LORD, saying, “Is the LORD among us or not?”
17:8Then the Amalekites came and fought against Israel at Rephidim.
17:9And Moses said to Joshua, “Choose men for us, and go out and fight against the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand.”
17:10So Joshua did as Moses had said to him and fought against the Amalekites; and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
17:11And whenever Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed; but whenever he let his hand down, the Amalekites prevailed.
17:12But Moses’ hands grew heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side and one on the other; and his hands remained steady until sunset.
17:13And Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
17:14Then the LORD said to Moses, “Write this as a memorial in a book, and read it in the hearing of Joshua: I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under the heavens.”
17:15And Moses built an altar and called its name The LORD Is My Banner.
17:16And he said, “For a hand is upon the throne of the LORD: the LORD will wage war against Amalek from generation to generation.”

Chapter 18

18:1Now Jethro, priest of Midian and father-in-law of Moses, heard all that God had done for Moses and for Israel His people, how the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt.
18:2Then Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, took Zipporah, Moses’ wife, after Moses had sent her away,
18:3along with her two sons. The name of one was Gershom, for Moses had said, “I have been a sojourner in a foreign land.”
18:4And the name of the other was Eliezer, for he had said, “The God of my father was my help, and He delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh.”
18:5And Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, came with Moses’ sons and wife to him in the wilderness where he was encamped, at the mountain of God.
18:6And he said to Moses, “I, your father-in-law Jethro, am coming to you, with your wife and her two sons.”
18:7Then Moses went out to meet his father-in-law, bowed down, and kissed him; and they asked after one another’s welfare and went into the tent.
18:8And Moses recounted to his father-in-law all that the LORD had done to Pharaoh and the Egyptians for Israel’s sake, all the hardship that had found them on the way, and how the LORD had delivered them.
18:9And Jethro rejoiced over all the good that the LORD had done for Israel, whom He had delivered from the power of the Egyptians.
18:10And Jethro said, “Blessed be the LORD, who has delivered you from the power of the Egyptians and from the power of Pharaoh, who has delivered this people from under the power of the Egyptians.
18:11Now I know that the LORD is greater than all the gods, for He proved Himself above them in the very thing in which they acted proudly.”
18:12Then Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, brought a burnt offering and sacrifices to God; and Aaron came with all the elders of Israel to eat a meal with Moses’ father-in-law before God.
18:13And it came to pass on the next day that Moses sat to judge the people, and the people stood before Moses from morning until evening.
18:14When Moses’ father-in-law saw all that he was doing for the people, he said, “What is this thing you are doing for the people? Why do you sit alone, while all the people stand before you from morning until evening?”
18:15And Moses said to his father-in-law, “Because the people come to me to seek God.
18:16When they have a dispute, it comes to me; and I judge between a man and his neighbor, and make known the statutes of God and His laws.”
18:17Then Moses’ father-in-law said to him, “What you are doing is not good.
18:18You will surely wear yourselves out, both you and this people who are with you; for the task is too heavy for you. You are not able to do it alone.
18:19Now listen to my voice; I will give you counsel, and may God be with you. You shall represent the people before God and bring their disputes to God.
18:20And you shall teach them the statutes and the laws, and make known to them the way in which they shall walk and the work they shall do.
18:21Moreover, you shall select from all the people able men who fear God, men of truth who hate dishonest gain; and you shall place them over the people as leaders of thousands, leaders of hundreds, leaders of fifties, and leaders of tens.
18:22And they shall judge the people at all times. Every great matter they shall bring to you, but every small matter they shall judge themselves. So make it lighter for yourself, and let them bear the burden with you.
18:23If you do this, and God commands you so, then you will be able to stand, and all this people also will go to their place in peace.”
18:24So Moses listened to the voice of his father-in-law and did all that he had said.
18:25And Moses chose able men out of all Israel and appointed them over the people as leaders of thousands, leaders of hundreds, leaders of fifties, and leaders of tens.
18:26And they judged the people at all times. The hard matters they brought to Moses, but every small matter they judged themselves.
18:27Then Moses sent his father-in-law away, and he went to his own land.

Chapter 19

19:1In the third month after the sons of Israel had gone out from the land of Egypt, on that very day, they came into the wilderness of Sinai.
19:2They journeyed from Rephidim, entered the wilderness of Sinai, and encamped in the wilderness; and Israel encamped there before the mountain.
19:3And Moses went up to God, and the LORD called to him from the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the sons of Israel:
19:4‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself.
19:5And now, if you diligently listen to My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My treasured possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine.
19:6And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to the sons of Israel.”
19:7Then Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and set before them all these words which the LORD had commanded him.
19:8And all the people answered together and said, “All that the LORD has spoken, we will do.” And Moses brought the words of the people back to the LORD.
19:9Then the LORD said to Moses, “Behold, I am coming to you in a thick cloud, so that the people may hear when I speak with you, and may also believe in you forever.” And Moses told the words of the people to the LORD.
19:10And the LORD said to Moses, “Go to the people, and consecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their garments.
19:11And let them be ready for the third day; for on the third day the LORD will come down upon Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people.
19:12And you shall set bounds for the people all around, saying, ‘Take care that you do not go up the mountain or touch its edge. Whoever touches the mountain shall surely be put to death.
19:13No hand shall touch him, for he shall surely be stoned or shot through; whether beast or man, he shall not live.’ When the ram’s horn sounds a long blast, they may come up to the mountain.”
19:14Then Moses came down from the mountain to the people and consecrated the people; and they washed their garments.
19:15And he said to the people, “Be ready for the third day. Do not go near a woman.”
19:16And it came to pass on the third day, when morning came, that there were thunder and lightning, and a heavy cloud upon the mountain, and the sound of a very loud horn; and all the people in the camp trembled.
19:17And Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet God, and they stationed themselves at the foot of the mountain.
19:18And all Mount Sinai smoked because the LORD had come down upon it in fire; and its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain shook violently.
19:19And the sound of the horn grew louder and louder. Moses spoke, and God answered him with a voice.
19:20Then the LORD came down upon Mount Sinai, to the top of the mountain; and the LORD called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up.
19:21And the LORD said to Moses, “Go down and warn the people, lest they break through to the LORD to see, and many of them fall.
19:22And let the priests also, who come near to the LORD, consecrate themselves, lest the LORD break forth against them.”
19:23And Moses said to the LORD, “The people cannot come up to Mount Sinai, for You warned us, saying, ‘Set bounds around the mountain and sanctify it.’”
19:24Then the LORD said to him, “Go, descend; then come up, you and Aaron with you. But do not let the priests and the people break through to come up to the LORD, lest He break forth against them.”
19:25So Moses went down to the people and spoke to them.

Chapter 20

20:1And God spoke all these words, saying,
20:2“I am the LORD your God, who brought you out from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
20:3You shall have no other gods before Me.
20:4You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything in the heavens above, or on the earth beneath, or in the waters under the earth.
20:5You shall not bow down to them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a Jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate Me,
20:6but showing steadfast love to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
20:7You shall not take the Name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold guiltless anyone who takes His Name in vain.
20:8Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
20:9Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
20:10but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. You shall not do any work—you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your maidservant, or your livestock, or your sojourner who is within your gates.
20:11For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
20:12Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you.
20:13You shall not murder.
20:14You shall not commit adultery.
20:15You shall not steal.
20:16You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
20:17You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male servant, or his maidservant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”
20:18And all the people saw the thunder and the flashes of lightning, and heard the sound of the horn, and saw the mountain smoking. And when the people saw it, they trembled and stood far off.
20:19Then they said to Moses, “You speak with us, and we will listen; but do not let God speak with us, lest we die.”
20:20And Moses said to the people, “Do not fear, for God has come to test you, and that the fear of Him may remain before you, so that you may not sin.”
20:21So the people stood far off, but Moses drew near to the thick darkness where God was.
20:22Then the LORD said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel: You yourselves have seen that I have spoken with you from the heavens.
20:23You shall not make gods of silver beside Me, nor shall you make for yourselves gods of gold.
20:24You shall make an altar of earth for Me, and sacrifice upon it your burnt offerings and your peace offerings, your sheep and your cattle. In every place where I cause My Name to be remembered, I will come to you and bless you.
20:25And if you make an altar of stones for Me, you shall not build it of hewn stones; for if you wield your tool upon it, you defile it.
20:26And you shall not go up by steps to My altar, that your nakedness may not be exposed upon it.

Chapter 21

21:1And these are the ordinances which you shall set before them:
21:2When you buy a Hebrew slave, he shall serve six years; and in the seventh he shall go free without payment.
21:3If he came in by himself, he shall go out by himself. If he was married, then his wife shall go out with him.
21:4If his master gives him a wife, and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall belong to her master, and he shall go out by himself.
21:5But if the slave plainly says, ‘I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free,’
21:6then his master shall bring him to God, and shall bring him to the door or the doorpost; and his master shall pierce his ear with an awl, and he shall serve him for life.
21:7And when a man sells his daughter as a female slave, she shall not go free as the male slaves do.
21:8If she is displeasing in the eyes of her master, who has designated her for himself, then he shall let her be redeemed. He shall have no right to sell her to a foreign people, since he has dealt treacherously with her.
21:9And if he designates her for his son, he shall deal with her according to the rights of daughters.
21:10If he takes another woman for himself, he shall not diminish her food, her clothing, or her marital rights.
21:11And if he does not provide these three things for her, then she shall go free without payment of money.
21:12Whoever strikes a man so that he dies shall surely be put to death.
21:13But if he did not lie in wait, and God let it happen, then I will appoint for you a place to which he may flee.
21:14But if a man acts presumptuously against his neighbor to kill him by treachery, you shall take him even from My altar, that he may die.
21:15Whoever strikes his father or his mother shall surely be put to death.
21:16Whoever kidnaps a man, whether he has sold him or he is found in his possession, shall surely be put to death.
21:17Whoever curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death.
21:18And when men quarrel, and one strikes the other with a stone or with his fist, and he does not die but is confined to bed,
21:19if he rises again and walks outside with his staff, then the one who struck him shall be acquitted; only he shall compensate him for his lost time and ensure that he is fully healed.
21:20And when a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod, and the slave dies under his hand, he shall surely be punished.
21:21But if the slave survives a day or two, he shall not be punished, for the slave is his property.
21:22And when men fight and strike a pregnant woman, so that her children come out, but no harm follows, the offender shall surely be fined as the woman’s husband imposes upon him, and he shall pay as the judges determine.
21:23But if harm follows, then you shall give life for life,
21:24eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,
21:25burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise.
21:26And when a man strikes the eye of his male or female slave and destroys it, he shall let the slave go free for the sake of the eye.
21:27And if he knocks out a tooth of his male or female slave, he shall let the slave go free for the sake of the tooth.
21:28And when an ox gores a man or a woman so that they die, the ox shall surely be stoned, and its flesh shall not be eaten; but the owner of the ox shall be acquitted.
21:29But if the ox was accustomed to gore in the past, and its owner had been warned but did not keep it confined, and it kills a man or a woman, the ox shall be stoned, and its owner also shall be put to death.
21:30If a ransom is imposed upon him, then he shall pay whatever is imposed for the redemption of his life.
21:31Whether it gores a son or a daughter, it shall be done to him according to this ordinance.
21:32If the ox gores a male or female slave, the owner shall give thirty shekels of silver to the slave’s master, and the ox shall be stoned.
21:33And when a man opens a pit, or digs a pit and does not cover it, and an ox or a donkey falls into it,
21:34the owner of the pit shall make restitution; he shall give money to the animal’s owner, and the dead animal shall be his.
21:35And when one man’s ox strikes another man’s ox so that it dies, then they shall sell the living ox and divide its price; and they shall also divide the dead animal.
21:36But if it was known that the ox was accustomed to gore in the past, and its owner did not keep it confined, he shall surely pay ox for ox, and the dead animal shall be his.
21:37When a man steals an ox or a sheep and slaughters it or sells it, he shall repay five oxen for the ox and four sheep for the sheep.

Chapter 22

22:1If a thief is found breaking in and is struck so that he dies, the one who struck him incurs no bloodguilt.
22:2But if the sun has risen upon him, the one who struck him incurs bloodguilt. The thief shall surely make restitution; if he has nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.
22:3If the stolen animal is found alive in his possession, whether ox, donkey, or sheep, he shall repay double.
22:4If a man lets a field or vineyard be grazed, and lets his animal loose so that it grazes in another man’s field, he shall make restitution from the best of his own field and the best of his own vineyard.
22:5When fire breaks out and catches in thorns, so that stacked grain, standing grain, or the field is consumed, whoever started the fire shall surely make restitution.
22:6When a man gives silver or goods to his neighbor for safekeeping, and they are stolen from the man’s house, if the thief is found, he shall repay double.
22:7If the thief is not found, then the owner of the house shall be brought before God, to determine whether he has laid his hand upon his neighbor’s property.
22:8For every case of breach of trust—whether concerning an ox, a donkey, a sheep, a garment, or any lost thing of which one says, ‘This is it’—the case of both parties shall come before God; the one whom God condemns shall repay double to his neighbor.
22:9When a man gives to his neighbor a donkey, an ox, a sheep, or any animal for safekeeping, and it dies, is injured, or is carried off, with no one seeing,
22:10an oath before the LORD shall be between the two of them, that he has not laid his hand upon his neighbor’s property; and its owner shall accept the oath, and he shall not make restitution.
22:11But if it is indeed stolen from him, he shall make restitution to its owner.
22:12If it is torn by beasts, he shall bring it as evidence; he shall not make restitution for what was torn.
22:13And when a man borrows anything from his neighbor, and it is injured or dies while its owner is not with it, he shall surely make restitution.
22:14If its owner is with it, he shall not make restitution. If it was hired, the hire covers the loss.
22:15And when a man entices a virgin who is not betrothed and lies with her, he shall surely pay the bride-price for her to be his wife.
22:16If her father utterly refuses to give her to him, he shall pay money equal to the bride-price for virgins.
22:17You shall not allow a sorceress to live.
22:18Whoever lies with an animal shall surely be put to death.
22:19Whoever sacrifices to any god, except to the LORD alone, shall be devoted to destruction.
22:20And you shall not wrong a sojourner or oppress him, for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt.
22:21You shall not afflict any widow or orphan.
22:22If you afflict them in any way, and they cry to Me, I will surely hear their cry;
22:23and My anger will burn, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall become widows, and your sons orphans.
22:24If you lend money to any of My people with you who is poor, you shall not act as a creditor toward him; you shall not charge him interest.
22:25If you ever take your neighbor’s garment as a pledge, you shall return it to him before the sun goes down.
22:26For that is his only covering; it is his garment for his body. What else shall he sleep in? And when he cries to Me, I will hear, for I am gracious.
22:27You shall not revile God, nor curse a ruler among your people.
22:28You shall not delay the firstfruits of your harvest or the outflow of your presses. You shall give the firstborn of your sons to Me.
22:29You shall do the same with your oxen and your sheep: each shall remain with its mother seven days; on the eighth day you shall give it to Me.
22:30And you shall be holy men to Me; you shall not eat flesh torn by beasts in the field. You shall throw it to the dogs.

Chapter 23

23:1You shall not spread a false report; you shall not join hands with a wicked man to be a malicious witness.
23:2You shall not follow a multitude to do evil, nor shall you testify in a dispute by turning aside after a multitude to pervert justice.
23:3And you shall not show partiality to a poor man in his dispute.
23:4When you meet your enemy’s ox or donkey going astray, you shall surely return it to him.
23:5When you see the donkey of one who hates you lying under its burden, you shall not leave him to it; you shall surely help him unload it.
23:6You shall not pervert the justice due to your poor in his dispute.
23:7Keep far from a false matter; and do not kill the innocent and the righteous, for I will not acquit a wicked man.
23:8And you shall not take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the clear-sighted and perverts the words of the righteous.
23:9And you shall not oppress a sojourner, for you know the heart of a sojourner, because you were sojourners in the land of Egypt.
23:10For six years you shall sow your land and gather its produce.
23:11But in the seventh year you shall let it rest and lie fallow, that the needy of your people may eat; and what they leave, the beasts of the field shall eat. You shall do likewise with your vineyard and your olive grove.
23:12Six days you shall do your work, but on the seventh day you shall rest, that your ox and your donkey may rest, and the son of your female slave and the sojourner may be refreshed.
23:13And in all that I have said to you, be on your guard. You shall not mention the name of other gods; it shall not be heard upon your lips.
23:14Three times in the year you shall celebrate a feast to Me.
23:15You shall keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread. For seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you, at the appointed time in the month of Abib, for in it you came out of Egypt. And none shall appear before Me empty-handed.
23:16You shall also keep the Feast of Harvest, with the firstfruits of your labor from what you sow in the field, and the Feast of Ingathering at the end of the year, when you gather the fruit of your labor from the field.
23:17Three times in the year all your males shall appear before the Lord, the LORD.
23:18You shall not offer the blood of My sacrifice with leavened bread, nor shall the fat of My festival sacrifice remain until morning.
23:19The first of the firstfruits of your ground you shall bring into the house of the LORD your God. You shall not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.
23:20Behold, I am sending an Angel before you, to guard you on the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.
23:21Pay heed to Him and listen to His voice. Do not rebel against Him, for He will not pardon your transgression, because My Name is in Him.
23:22But if you diligently listen to His voice and do all that I speak, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries.
23:23For My Angel will go before you and bring you to the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; and I will cut them off.
23:24You shall not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do according to their deeds; but you shall utterly overthrow them and thoroughly shatter their pillars.
23:25And you shall serve the LORD your God, and He will bless your bread and your water; and I will remove sickness from your midst.
23:26None shall miscarry or be barren in your land; I will fulfill the number of your days.
23:27I will send My terror before you and throw into confusion all the peoples among whom you come, and I will make all your enemies turn their backs to you.
23:28And I will send the hornet before you, and it will drive the Hivites, the Canaanites, and the Hittites out from before you.
23:29I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the beasts of the field multiply against you.
23:30Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased and taken possession of the land.
23:31And I will set your border from the Sea of Reeds to the sea of the Philistines, and from the wilderness to the Euphrates; for I will give the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out from before you.
23:32You shall make no covenant with them or with their gods.
23:33They shall not dwell in your land, lest they cause you to sin against Me; for if you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you.”

Chapter 24

24:1And He said to Moses, “Come up to the LORD—you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel—and bow down from afar.
24:2Moses alone shall draw near to the LORD, but they shall not draw near; and the people shall not come up with him.”
24:3Then Moses came and recounted to the people all the words of the LORD and all the ordinances; and all the people answered with one voice and said, “All the words that the LORD has spoken we will do.”
24:4Then Moses wrote down all the words of the LORD. He rose early in the morning and built an altar at the foot of the mountain, with twelve pillars for the twelve tribes of Israel.
24:5Then he sent young men of the sons of Israel, and they offered burnt offerings and sacrificed bulls as peace offerings to the LORD.
24:6And Moses took half the blood and put it in basins, and half the blood he splashed against the altar.
24:7Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it in the hearing of the people; and they said, “All that the LORD has spoken we will do, and we will obey.”
24:8Then Moses took the blood and splashed it on the people, and said, “Behold, the blood of the covenant that the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words.”
24:9Then Moses went up, with Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel.
24:10And they saw the God of Israel; beneath His feet was something like a pavement of sapphire, like the very heavens in purity.
24:11Yet He did not stretch out His hand against the nobles of the sons of Israel; they saw God, and they ate and drank.
24:12Then the LORD said to Moses, “Come up to Me on the mountain and remain there; and I will give you the tablets of stone, with the Law and the commandment that I have written to instruct them.”
24:13Then Moses arose with Joshua his assistant, and Moses went up to the mountain of God.
24:14And he said to the elders, “Wait here for us until we return to you. Behold, Aaron and Hur are with you; whoever has a dispute, let him go to them.”
24:15Then Moses went up on the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain.
24:16And the glory of the LORD dwelt upon Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days; and on the seventh day He called to Moses from the midst of the cloud.
24:17And the appearance of the glory of the LORD was like a consuming fire on the top of the mountain in the sight of the sons of Israel.
24:18Then Moses entered the midst of the cloud and went up on the mountain; and Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.

Chapter 25

25:1And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
25:2“Speak to the sons of Israel, that they may take a contribution for Me. From every man whose heart moves him, you shall take My contribution.
25:3And this is the contribution you shall take from them: gold, silver, and bronze;
25:4blue, purple, and scarlet yarn; fine linen and goats’ hair;
25:5rams’ skins dyed red, fine leather, and acacia wood;
25:6oil for the light, spices for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense;
25:7onyx stones, and stones for setting in the priestly vest and the breastpiece.
25:8And let them make a sanctuary for Me, that I may dwell among them.
25:9According to all that I show you—the pattern of the Dwelling Place and the pattern of all its furnishings—so you shall make it.
25:10And they shall make an Ark of acacia wood, two and a half cubits long, a cubit and a half wide, and a cubit and a half high.
25:11You shall overlay it with pure gold; inside and outside you shall overlay it, and you shall make a gold molding around it.
25:12And you shall cast four gold rings for it and put them on its four feet, two rings on one side and two rings on the other side.
25:13And you shall make poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold.
25:14You shall insert the poles into the rings on the sides of the Ark, to carry the Ark by them.
25:15The poles shall remain in the rings of the Ark; they shall not be removed from it.
25:16And you shall put into the Ark the Testimony that I will give you.
25:17And you shall make an atonement cover of pure gold, two and a half cubits long and a cubit and a half wide.
25:18And you shall make two winged guardians of gold; of hammered work you shall make them at the two ends of the atonement cover.
25:19Make one winged guardian at one end and one winged guardian at the other end; of one piece with the atonement cover you shall make the winged guardians at its two ends.
25:20And the winged guardians shall spread their wings upward, overshadowing the atonement cover with their wings. They shall face one another; the faces of the winged guardians shall be toward the atonement cover.
25:21And you shall put the atonement cover upon the Ark above, and into the Ark you shall put the Testimony that I will give you.
25:22And I will meet with you there and speak with you from above the atonement cover, from between the two winged guardians that are upon the Ark of the Testimony, concerning all that I command you for the sons of Israel.
25:23And you shall make a table of acacia wood, two cubits long, a cubit wide, and a cubit and a half high.
25:24You shall overlay it with pure gold and make a gold molding around it.
25:25And you shall make a border around it a handbreadth wide, and make a gold molding around its border.
25:26And you shall make four gold rings for it and put the rings on the four corners at its four feet.
25:27The rings shall be close to the border, as holders for the poles by which the table is carried.
25:28And you shall make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold, that the table may be carried by them.
25:29And you shall make its dishes, pans, pitchers, and bowls, with which drink offerings are poured; of pure gold you shall make them.
25:30And you shall set the bread of the Presence on the table before Me continually.
25:31And you shall make a lampstand of pure gold. The lampstand shall be made of hammered work; its base and shaft, its cups, buds, and flowers shall be of one piece with it.
25:32Six branches shall extend from its sides: three branches of the lampstand from one side, and three branches of the lampstand from the other side.
25:33Three cups shaped like almond blossoms, each with a bud and a flower, shall be on one branch, and three cups shaped like almond blossoms, each with a bud and a flower, on the next branch—so for the six branches extending from the lampstand.
25:34And on the lampstand itself there shall be four cups shaped like almond blossoms, with its buds and flowers.
25:35There shall be a bud under the first pair of branches extending from it, a bud under the second pair of branches extending from it, and a bud under the third pair of branches extending from it—so for the six branches extending from the lampstand.
25:36Their buds and branches shall be of one piece with it; all of it shall be one hammered work of pure gold.
25:37And you shall make its seven lamps and light them, so that they give light in front of it.
25:38Its wick tongs and trays shall be of pure gold.
25:39It shall be made from a talent of pure gold, with all these utensils.
25:40And see that you make them according to the pattern shown to you on the mountain.”

Chapter 26

26:1“And you shall make the Dwelling Place with ten curtains of fine twisted linen and blue, purple, and scarlet yarn; with winged guardians skillfully worked into them you shall make them.
26:2The length of each curtain shall be twenty-eight cubits, and the width of each curtain four cubits; all the curtains shall have the same measure.
26:3Five curtains shall be joined to one another, and the other five curtains shall be joined to one another.
26:4And you shall make loops of blue on the edge of the outermost curtain in the first set, and likewise you shall make them on the edge of the outermost curtain in the second set.
26:5You shall make fifty loops on the first curtain and fifty loops on the edge of the curtain in the second set, so that the loops are opposite one another.
26:6And you shall make fifty clasps of gold and join the curtains to one another with the clasps, so that the Dwelling Place shall be one whole.
26:7And you shall make curtains of goats’ hair for a tent over the Dwelling Place; eleven curtains you shall make.
26:8The length of each curtain shall be thirty cubits, and the width of each curtain four cubits; all eleven curtains shall have the same measure.
26:9And you shall join five curtains by themselves and six curtains by themselves, and you shall double the sixth curtain at the front of the tent.
26:10And you shall make fifty loops on the edge of the outermost curtain in the first set, and fifty loops on the edge of the curtain in the second set.
26:11And you shall make fifty clasps of bronze and put the clasps into the loops and join the tent together, so that it shall be one whole.
26:12And the excess that remains of the curtains of the tent—the half curtain that remains—shall hang over the rear of the Dwelling Place.
26:13And the cubit on one side and the cubit on the other side, of what remains in the length of the curtains of the tent, shall hang over the sides of the Dwelling Place, on this side and on that side, to cover it.
26:14And you shall make a covering for the tent of rams’ skins dyed red, and above it a covering of fine leather.
26:15And you shall make upright frames of acacia wood for the Dwelling Place.
26:16Ten cubits shall be the length of each frame, and a cubit and a half the width of each frame.
26:17Each frame shall have two tenons, parallel to one another; so you shall make all the frames of the Dwelling Place.
26:18And you shall make the frames for the Dwelling Place: twenty frames for the south side.
26:19And you shall make forty silver bases under the twenty frames, two bases under each frame for its two tenons.
26:20And for the second side of the Dwelling Place, the north side, there shall be twenty frames,
26:21with their forty silver bases, two bases under each frame.
26:22And for the rear of the Dwelling Place, toward the west, you shall make six frames.
26:23And you shall make two frames for the two rear corners of the Dwelling Place.
26:24They shall be paired at the bottom and joined together at the top by one ring; so shall it be for both of them. They shall form the two corners.
26:25Thus there shall be eight frames, with their sixteen silver bases, two bases under each frame.
26:26And you shall make bars of acacia wood: five for the frames on one side of the Dwelling Place,
26:27five bars for the frames on the other side of the Dwelling Place, and five bars for the frames at the rear of the Dwelling Place, toward the west.
26:28And the middle bar, halfway up the frames, shall run from end to end.
26:29And you shall overlay the frames with gold and make their rings of gold as holders for the bars; and you shall overlay the bars with gold.
26:30And you shall set up the Dwelling Place according to the plan shown to you on the mountain.
26:31And you shall make a veil of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and fine twisted linen; with winged guardians skillfully worked into it you shall make it.
26:32And you shall hang it upon four pillars of acacia wood overlaid with gold, with hooks of gold, standing upon four silver bases.
26:33And you shall hang the veil under the clasps and bring the Ark of the Testimony inside the veil; and the veil shall separate for you the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place.
26:34And you shall put the atonement cover upon the Ark of the Testimony in the Most Holy Place.
26:35And you shall set the table outside the veil, and the lampstand opposite the table on the south side of the Dwelling Place; and you shall put the table on the north side.
26:36And you shall make a screen for the entrance of the tent, of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and fine twisted linen, the work of an embroiderer.
26:37And you shall make five pillars of acacia wood for the screen and overlay them with gold; their hooks shall be of gold, and you shall cast five bronze bases for them.”

Chapter 27

27:1“And you shall make the altar of acacia wood, five cubits long and five cubits wide—the altar shall be square—and three cubits high.
27:2And you shall make horns upon its four corners; its horns shall be of one piece with it, and you shall overlay it with bronze.
27:3And you shall make its pots for removing its ashes, its shovels, basins, forks, and firepans; all its utensils you shall make of bronze.
27:4And you shall make for it a bronze grate of network, and upon the net you shall make four bronze rings at its four corners.
27:5And you shall put it beneath the ledge of the altar, so that the net reaches halfway up the altar.
27:6And you shall make poles for the altar, poles of acacia wood, and overlay them with bronze.
27:7And the poles shall be inserted into the rings, so that the poles are on the two sides of the altar when it is carried.
27:8You shall make it hollow, with boards; as it was shown to you on the mountain, so they shall make it.
27:9And you shall make the court of the Dwelling Place. On the south side there shall be hangings for the court of fine twisted linen, one hundred cubits long on that side.
27:10Its twenty pillars and their twenty bases shall be of bronze; the hooks of the pillars and their bands shall be of silver.
27:11Likewise, on the north side there shall be hangings one hundred cubits long, with twenty pillars and twenty bronze bases; the hooks of the pillars and their bands shall be of silver.
27:12And for the width of the court on the west side there shall be hangings fifty cubits long, with ten pillars and ten bases.
27:13And the width of the court on the east side shall be fifty cubits.
27:14The hangings on one side shall be fifteen cubits long, with three pillars and three bases.
27:15And on the other side there shall be hangings fifteen cubits long, with three pillars and three bases.
27:16And for the gate of the court there shall be a screen twenty cubits long, of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and fine twisted linen, the work of an embroiderer, with four pillars and four bases.
27:17All the pillars around the court shall be joined with silver bands; their hooks shall be of silver, and their bases of bronze.
27:18The court shall be one hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide throughout, and five cubits high, with hangings of fine twisted linen and bases of bronze.
27:19All the utensils of the Dwelling Place used in its service, and all its pegs and all the pegs of the court, shall be of bronze.
27:20And you shall command the sons of Israel to bring you pure oil from beaten olives for the light, to keep a lamp burning continually.
27:21In the Tent of Meeting, outside the veil that is before the Testimony, Aaron and his sons shall tend it from evening until morning before the LORD. It shall be an enduring statute throughout their generations for the sons of Israel.”

Chapter 28

28:1“And you, bring near to yourself Aaron your brother, and his sons with him, from among the sons of Israel, that he may serve as priest to Me: Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, the sons of Aaron.
28:2And you shall make holy garments for Aaron your brother, for glory and for beauty.
28:3And you shall speak to all the skillful, whom I have filled with a spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron’s garments to consecrate him, that he may serve as priest to Me.
28:4And these are the garments they shall make: a breastpiece, a priestly vest, a robe, a checkered tunic, a turban, and a sash. They shall make holy garments for Aaron your brother and for his sons, that he may serve as priest to Me.
28:5And they shall take the gold, and the blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and the fine linen.
28:6And they shall make the priestly vest of gold, blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and fine twisted linen, skillfully worked.
28:7It shall have two shoulder pieces joined at its two edges, so that it is joined together.
28:8And the skillfully woven band upon it, by which it is fastened, shall be of one piece and of the same workmanship: of gold, blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and fine twisted linen.
28:9And you shall take two onyx stones and engrave upon them the names of the sons of Israel:
28:10six of their names on the first stone, and the names of the remaining six on the second stone, in the order of their birth.
28:11As a gem engraver engraves a signet, so you shall engrave the two stones with the names of the sons of Israel; you shall enclose them in settings of gold filigree.
28:12And you shall set the two stones on the shoulder pieces of the priestly vest as memorial stones for the sons of Israel; and Aaron shall bear their names upon his two shoulders before the LORD as a memorial.
28:13And you shall make settings of gold filigree,
28:14and two chains of pure gold; braided like cords you shall make them, and you shall attach the corded chains to the settings.
28:15And you shall make a breastpiece of decision, skillfully worked. Like the workmanship of the priestly vest you shall make it: of gold, blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and fine twisted linen you shall make it.
28:16It shall be square and doubled, a span long and a span wide.
28:17And you shall set in it four rows of stones: a row of sardius, topaz, and carbuncle shall be the first row;
28:18the second row, emerald, sapphire, and diamond;
28:19the third row, opal, agate, and amethyst;
28:20and the fourth row, beryl, onyx, and jasper. They shall be enclosed in gold settings.
28:21And the stones shall be according to the names of the sons of Israel, twelve according to their names; like the engravings of a signet, each with its name, they shall be for the twelve tribes.
28:22And you shall make braided chains of pure gold, like cords, for the breastpiece.
28:23And you shall make two gold rings for the breastpiece and put the two rings on the two ends of the breastpiece.
28:24And you shall put the two gold cords through the two rings at the corners of the breastpiece.
28:25And the other two ends of the two cords you shall attach to the two settings and fasten them to the shoulder pieces of the priestly vest at its front.
28:26And you shall make two gold rings and set them on the two lower corners of the breastpiece, on its inner edge next to the priestly vest.
28:27And you shall make two more gold rings and put them on the two shoulder pieces of the priestly vest, low on the front, near its seam and above the woven band of the priestly vest.
28:28And they shall bind the rings of the breastpiece to the rings of the priestly vest with a cord of blue, so that the breastpiece rests above the woven band of the priestly vest and does not come loose from it.
28:29And Aaron shall bear the names of the sons of Israel in the breastpiece of decision upon his heart when he enters the Holy Place, as a continual memorial before the LORD.
28:30And you shall put the sacred decision lots into the breastpiece of decision; and they shall be upon Aaron’s heart when he goes in before the LORD. Thus Aaron shall bear the decisions of the sons of Israel upon his heart before the LORD continually.
28:31And you shall make the robe of the priestly vest entirely of blue.
28:32And there shall be an opening for his head in its center, with a woven binding around the opening, like the opening of a coat of mail, so that it shall not be torn.
28:33And upon its hem you shall make pomegranates of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, all around its hem, with bells of gold between them all around:
28:34a gold bell and a pomegranate, a gold bell and a pomegranate, all around the hem of the robe.
28:35And it shall be upon Aaron when he ministers, and its sound shall be heard when he enters the Holy Place before the LORD and when he comes out, so that he may not die.
28:36And you shall make a plate of pure gold and engrave upon it, like the engraving of a signet: Holy to the LORD.
28:37And you shall fasten it to a cord of blue, and it shall be upon the turban; it shall be at the front of the turban.
28:38And it shall be upon Aaron’s forehead, and Aaron shall bear the guilt attached to the holy things that the sons of Israel consecrate, all their holy gifts. It shall be upon his forehead continually, that they may be accepted before the LORD.
28:39And you shall weave the tunic of fine linen in a checkered pattern, and make a turban of fine linen; and you shall make a sash, the work of an embroiderer.
28:40And for Aaron’s sons you shall make tunics, sashes, and caps, for glory and for beauty.
28:41And you shall clothe Aaron your brother with them, and his sons with him; and you shall anoint them, ordain them, and consecrate them, that they may serve as priests to Me.
28:42And you shall make linen undergarments for them to cover their naked flesh; they shall reach from the waist to the thighs.
28:43And they shall be upon Aaron and his sons when they enter the Tent of Meeting or when they draw near to the altar to minister in the Holy Place, so that they do not bear guilt and die. It shall be an enduring statute for him and for his descendants after him.”

Chapter 29

29:1“And this is what you shall do to them to consecrate them, that they may serve as priests to Me: take one young bull and two unblemished rams,
29:2and unleavened bread, unleavened cakes mixed with oil, and unleavened wafers spread with oil; of fine wheat flour you shall make them.
29:3And you shall put them in one basket and bring them in the basket, together with the bull and the two rams.
29:4And you shall bring Aaron and his sons near to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting and wash them with water.
29:5And you shall take the garments and clothe Aaron with the tunic, the robe of the priestly vest, the priestly vest, and the breastpiece; and you shall fasten the priestly vest upon him with its woven band.
29:6And you shall set the turban on his head and put the holy diadem upon the turban.
29:7And you shall take the anointing oil and pour it on his head and anoint him.
29:8And you shall bring his sons near and clothe them with tunics.
29:9And you shall fasten sashes around them, Aaron and his sons, and bind caps upon them; and the priesthood shall be theirs by an enduring statute. Thus you shall ordain Aaron and his sons.
29:10And you shall bring the bull before the Tent of Meeting, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands upon the head of the bull.
29:11And you shall slaughter the bull before the LORD at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting.
29:12And you shall take some of the blood of the bull and put it on the horns of the altar with your finger, and pour all the rest of the blood at the base of the altar.
29:13And you shall take all the fat that covers the entrails, the lobe of the liver, the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, and burn them on the altar.
29:14But the flesh of the bull, its skin, and its dung you shall burn with fire outside the camp. It is a sin offering.
29:15And you shall take the first ram, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands upon the head of the ram.
29:16And you shall slaughter the ram and take its blood and splash it against the altar on all sides.
29:17And you shall cut the ram into its pieces, wash its entrails and its legs, and put them with its pieces and its head.
29:18And you shall burn the whole ram on the altar. It is a burnt offering to the LORD, a soothing aroma; it is an offering by fire to the LORD.
29:19And you shall take the second ram, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands upon the head of the ram.
29:20And you shall slaughter the ram and take some of its blood and put it on the right earlobe of Aaron and on the right earlobes of his sons, and on the thumbs of their right hands and the big toes of their right feet; and you shall splash the blood against the altar on all sides.
29:21And you shall take some of the blood that is on the altar and some of the anointing oil, and sprinkle it upon Aaron and his garments, and upon his sons and the garments of his sons with him. Then he and his garments shall be consecrated, and his sons and their garments with him.
29:22And you shall take from the ram the fat, the fat tail, the fat that covers the entrails, the lobe of the liver, the two kidneys and the fat that is upon them, and the right thigh, for it is a ram of ordination;
29:23and one round loaf of bread, one cake of bread made with oil, and one wafer from the basket of unleavened bread that is before the LORD.
29:24And you shall place all these upon the hands of Aaron and upon the hands of his sons, and wave them as a wave offering before the LORD.
29:25Then you shall take them from their hands and burn them on the altar upon the burnt offering, as a soothing aroma before the LORD. It is an offering by fire to the LORD.
29:26And you shall take the breast of the ram of Aaron’s ordination and wave it as a wave offering before the LORD; and it shall be your portion.
29:27And you shall consecrate the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the contribution, which were waved and presented from the ram of ordination, from what belonged to Aaron and to his sons.
29:28And it shall be for Aaron and his sons as an enduring statute from the sons of Israel, for it is a contribution; and it shall be a contribution from the sons of Israel out of their peace offerings, their contribution to the LORD.
29:29And the holy garments of Aaron shall be for his sons after him, to be anointed in them and ordained in them.
29:30The son who succeeds him as priest shall wear them for seven days when he enters the Tent of Meeting to minister in the Holy Place.
29:31And you shall take the ram of ordination and boil its flesh in a holy place.
29:32And Aaron and his sons shall eat the flesh of the ram and the bread that is in the basket at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting.
29:33And they shall eat those things by which atonement was made, to ordain and consecrate them. But an unauthorized person shall not eat them, for they are holy.
29:34And if any of the flesh of the ordination offering or any of the bread remains until morning, then you shall burn what remains with fire. It shall not be eaten, for it is holy.
29:35And you shall do thus to Aaron and to his sons, according to all that I have commanded you; for seven days you shall ordain them.
29:36And each day you shall offer a bull as a sin offering for atonement; and you shall purify the altar when you make atonement for it, and you shall anoint it to consecrate it.
29:37For seven days you shall make atonement for the altar and consecrate it; and the altar shall be most holy. Whatever touches the altar shall be holy.
29:38And this is what you shall offer on the altar: two one-year-old lambs each day, continually.
29:39The first lamb you shall offer in the morning, and the second lamb you shall offer at twilight.
29:40And with the first lamb, one-tenth of an ephah of fine flour mixed with a fourth of a hin of oil from beaten olives, and a fourth of a hin of wine for a drink offering.
29:41And the second lamb you shall offer at twilight. You shall offer it with the same grain offering and drink offering as in the morning, for a soothing aroma, an offering by fire to the LORD—
29:42a continual burnt offering throughout your generations at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting before the LORD, where I will meet with you to speak to you there.
29:43And there I will meet with the sons of Israel, and the Tent of Meeting shall be consecrated by My glory.
29:44And I will consecrate the Tent of Meeting and the altar; and I will consecrate Aaron and his sons, that they may serve as priests to Me.
29:45And I will dwell among the sons of Israel and be their God.
29:46And they shall know that I am the LORD their God, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, that I might dwell among them. I am the LORD their God.”

Chapter 30

30:1“And you shall make an altar for burning incense; of acacia wood you shall make it.
30:2A cubit shall be its length and a cubit its width—it shall be square—and two cubits its height; its horns shall be of one piece with it.
30:3And you shall overlay it with pure gold—its top, its sides all around, and its horns—and you shall make a gold molding around it.
30:4And you shall make two gold rings for it beneath its molding, on its two opposite sides; they shall be holders for poles by which to carry it.
30:5And you shall make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold.
30:6And you shall place it before the veil that is before the Ark of the Testimony, before the atonement cover that is over the Testimony, where I will meet with you.
30:7And Aaron shall burn fragrant incense on it morning by morning; when he tends the lamps, he shall burn incense on it.
30:8And when Aaron lights the lamps at twilight, he shall burn incense on it; it shall be continual incense before the LORD throughout your generations.
30:9You shall not offer unauthorized incense on it, nor a burnt offering or a grain offering; and you shall not pour a drink offering on it.
30:10And Aaron shall make atonement upon its horns once a year; with the blood of the atoning sin offering he shall make atonement for it once a year throughout your generations. It is most holy to the LORD.”
30:11And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
30:12“When you take a census of the sons of Israel, each man shall give a ransom for his life to the LORD when you number them, so that no plague may come among them when you number them.
30:13Everyone who is counted shall give this: half a shekel, according to the sanctuary shekel—the shekel is twenty gerahs—half a shekel as a contribution to the LORD.
30:14Everyone who is counted, from twenty years old and upward, shall give the contribution of the LORD.
30:15The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less than the half-shekel, when they give the contribution of the LORD to make atonement for your lives.
30:16And you shall take the atonement money from the sons of Israel and give it for the service of the Tent of Meeting; and it shall serve as a memorial for the sons of Israel before the LORD, to make atonement for your lives.”
30:17And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
30:18“And you shall make a bronze basin with a bronze stand for washing; and you shall place it between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and put water in it.
30:19And Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet from it.
30:20When they enter the Tent of Meeting, they shall wash with water, so that they do not die; or when they approach the altar to minister, to burn an offering by fire to the LORD.
30:21They shall wash their hands and their feet, so that they do not die. And it shall be an enduring statute for them, for Aaron and his descendants, throughout their generations.”
30:22And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
30:23“And you, take for yourself the finest spices: five hundred shekels of flowing myrrh, half as much—two hundred and fifty shekels—of fragrant cinnamon, and two hundred and fifty shekels of fragrant cane,
30:24and five hundred shekels of cassia, according to the sanctuary shekel, and a hin of olive oil.
30:25And you shall make of these a holy anointing oil, a fragrant blend, the work of a perfumer; it shall be a holy anointing oil.
30:26And with it you shall anoint the Tent of Meeting and the Ark of the Testimony,
30:27the table and all its utensils, the lampstand and its utensils, the altar of incense,
30:28the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and the basin and its stand.
30:29And you shall consecrate them, and they shall be most holy; whatever touches them shall be holy.
30:30And you shall anoint Aaron and his sons and consecrate them, that they may serve as priests to Me.
30:31And you shall speak to the sons of Israel, saying, This shall be My holy anointing oil throughout your generations.
30:32It shall not be poured upon the body of an ordinary person, and you shall make no other oil like it in the same composition. It is holy; it shall be holy to you.
30:33Whoever compounds any like it, or puts any of it upon an unauthorized person, shall be cut off from his people.”
30:34Then the LORD said to Moses, “Take for yourself fragrant spices—gum resin, aromatic shell, and galbanum resin—with pure frankincense; each shall be in equal proportion.
30:35And you shall make of them incense, a perfumer’s blend, seasoned with salt, pure and holy.
30:36And you shall grind some of it very fine and put some of it before the Testimony in the Tent of Meeting, where I will meet with you. It shall be most holy to you.
30:37And as for the incense you shall make, you shall not make any for yourselves in the same composition. It shall be holy to you for the LORD.
30:38Whoever makes any like it to enjoy its fragrance shall be cut off from his people.”

Chapter 31

31:1And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
31:2“See, I have called by name Bezalel, son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah.
31:3And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, understanding, knowledge, and all craftsmanship,
31:4to devise artistic designs, to work in gold, silver, and bronze,
31:5in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, to work in every craft.
31:6And behold, I have appointed with him Oholiab, son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan; and I have put skill in the heart of every skilled artisan, that they may make all that I have commanded you:
31:7the Tent of Meeting, the Ark of the Testimony, the atonement cover that is upon it, and all the furnishings of the tent;
31:8the table and its utensils, the pure lampstand and all its utensils, and the altar of incense;
31:9the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and the basin and its stand;
31:10the service garments, the holy garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments of his sons, in which they shall serve as priests;
31:11and the anointing oil and the fragrant incense for the Holy Place. According to all that I have commanded you, they shall do.”
31:12Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
31:13“And you, speak to the sons of Israel, saying, Surely you shall keep My Sabbaths, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the LORD who sanctifies you.
31:14And you shall keep the Sabbath, for it is holy to you. Whoever profanes it shall surely be put to death; for whoever does any work on it, that person shall be cut off from the midst of his people.
31:15Six days work may be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of complete rest, holy to the LORD. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day shall surely be put to death.
31:16And the sons of Israel shall observe the Sabbath, keeping the Sabbath throughout their generations as an enduring covenant.
31:17It is a sign forever between Me and the sons of Israel; for in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He ceased and was refreshed.”
31:18And when He had finished speaking with Moses on Mount Sinai, He gave him the two tablets of the Testimony, tablets of stone written by the finger of God.

Chapter 32

32:1Then the people saw that Moses delayed in coming down from the mountain; and the people gathered around Aaron and said to him, “Rise, make gods for us who will go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has happened to him.”
32:2Then Aaron said to them, “Take off the gold rings that are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me.”
32:3And all the people took off the gold rings that were in their ears and brought them to Aaron.
32:4Then he took the gold from their hands and fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made it into a cast-metal calf; and they said, “These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!”
32:5When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it; and Aaron proclaimed, “Tomorrow shall be a festival to the LORD.”
32:6And they rose early the next day and offered burnt offerings and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to revel.
32:7And the LORD spoke to Moses, “Go, descend; for your people, whom you brought up out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves.
32:8They have quickly turned aside from the way that I commanded them. They have made for themselves a cast-metal calf, worshiped it, sacrificed to it, and said, These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!”
32:9Then the LORD said to Moses, “I have seen this people, and behold, it is a stiff-necked people.
32:10And now, leave Me alone, that My anger may burn against them and I may consume them; and I will make of you a great nation.”
32:11But Moses pleaded with the LORD his God and said, “Why, O LORD, should Your anger burn against Your people, whom You brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and a strong hand?
32:12Why should the Egyptians say, With evil intent He brought them out, to kill them in the mountains and consume them from the face of the ground? Turn from Your burning anger and relent from this disaster against Your people.
32:13Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, Your servants, to whom You swore by Yourself and said, I will multiply your seed as the stars of the heavens, and all this land of which I have spoken I will give to your seed, and they shall inherit it forever.”
32:14And the LORD relented from the disaster that He had spoken of bringing upon His people.
32:15Then Moses turned and went down from the mountain with the two tablets of the Testimony in his hand, tablets written on both sides; on the front and on the back they were written.
32:16And the tablets were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, engraved upon the tablets.
32:17Then Joshua heard the sound of the people as they shouted, and said to Moses, “There is a sound of battle in the camp!”
32:18But he said, “It is not the sound of a cry of victory, nor the sound of a cry of defeat; I hear the sound of singing.”
32:19And when he drew near to the camp, he saw the calf and the dancing; and Moses’ anger burned, and he cast the tablets from his hands and broke them at the foot of the mountain.
32:20Then he took the calf they had made, burned it with fire, ground it to powder, scattered it upon the water, and made the sons of Israel drink it.
32:21Then Moses said to Aaron, “What did this people do to you, that you have brought so great a sin upon them?”
32:22Then Aaron said, “Do not let the anger of my lord burn. You know the people, that they are bent on evil.
32:23For they said to me, Make gods for us who will go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has happened to him.
32:24Then I said to them, Whoever has gold, take it off. And they gave it to me, and I cast it into the fire, and out came this calf.”
32:25Then Moses saw that the people were out of control—for Aaron had let them get out of control, to the derision of their enemies.
32:26Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp and said, “Whoever is for the LORD, come to me!” And all the sons of Levi gathered to him.
32:27Then he said to them, “Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Each man put his sword at his side; go back and forth from gate to gate throughout the camp, and each man kill his brother, his companion, and his neighbor.”
32:28And the sons of Levi did according to the word of Moses; and about three thousand men fell from the people that day.
32:29Then Moses said, “Consecrate yourselves today to the LORD, for each man has stood against his son and his brother, that He may bestow a blessing upon you today.”
32:30And it came to pass on the next day that Moses said to the people, “You have committed a great sin; and now I will go up to the LORD. Perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.”
32:31Then Moses returned to the LORD and said, “Ah, this people has committed a great sin and made for themselves gods of gold.
32:32But now, if You will forgive their sin—and if not, please blot me out of Your book that You have written.”
32:33Then the LORD said to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against Me, I will blot him out of My book.
32:34And now, go; lead the people to the place of which I have spoken to you. Behold, My Angel shall go before you; but on the day I punish, I will punish them for their sin.”
32:35And the LORD struck the people with a plague because they had made the calf that Aaron fashioned.

Chapter 33

33:1Then the LORD spoke to Moses, “Depart, go up from here, you and the people whom you brought up out of the land of Egypt, to the land of which I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, I will give it to your seed.
33:2And I will send an Angel before you and drive out the Canaanites, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites.
33:3Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey; but I will not go up among you, for you are a stiff-necked people, lest I consume you on the way.”
33:4When the people heard this distressing word, they mourned, and no one put on his ornaments.
33:5Then the LORD said to Moses, “Say to the sons of Israel: You are a stiff-necked people. If I were to go up among you for one moment, I would consume you. So now, take off your ornaments, that I may know what I shall do to you.”
33:6And the sons of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments from Mount Horeb onward.
33:7Now Moses would take the tent and pitch it outside the camp, far from the camp, and he called it the Tent of Meeting. And everyone who sought the LORD would go out to the Tent of Meeting, which was outside the camp.
33:8And whenever Moses went out to the tent, all the people would rise and stand, each at the entrance of his tent, and watch Moses until he entered the tent.
33:9And whenever Moses entered the tent, the pillar of cloud would descend and stand at the entrance of the tent, and the LORD would speak with Moses.
33:10And all the people would see the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance of the tent; and all the people would rise and worship, each at the entrance of his tent.
33:11Thus the LORD spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his assistant Joshua, son of Nun, a young man, would not depart from the tent.
33:12Then Moses said to the LORD, “See, You say to me, Bring up this people; but You have not let me know whom You will send with me. Yet You have said, I know you by name, and you have also found favor in My sight.
33:13And now, if I have found favor in Your sight, please show me Your ways, that I may know You and find favor in Your sight; and consider that this nation is Your people.”
33:14And He said, “My presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest.”
33:15Then Moses said to Him, “If Your presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here.
33:16For how then shall it be known that I and Your people have found favor in Your sight? Is it not by Your going with us, so that I and Your people are distinguished from every other people upon the face of the ground?”
33:17Then the LORD said to Moses, “This very thing that you have spoken I will do, for you have found favor in My sight, and I know you by name.”
33:18Then he said, “Please show me Your glory.”
33:19And He said, “I will cause all My goodness to pass before you, and I will proclaim the Name of the LORD before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”
33:20But He said, “You cannot see My face, for no man shall see Me and live.”
33:21And the LORD said, “Behold, there is a place by Me, and you shall stand upon the rock.
33:22And when My glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft of the rock and cover you with My hand until I have passed by.
33:23Then I will remove My hand, and you shall see My back; but My face shall not be seen.”

Chapter 34

34:1Then the LORD said to Moses, “Hew for yourself two tablets of stone like the first, and I will write upon the tablets the words that were upon the first tablets, which you broke.
34:2And be ready by morning, and come up in the morning to Mount Sinai, and present yourself to Me there on the top of the mountain.
34:3And no man shall come up with you, nor shall any man be seen anywhere on the mountain; neither shall the flocks nor the herds graze in front of that mountain.”
34:4So he hewed two tablets of stone like the first; and Moses rose early in the morning and went up to Mount Sinai, as the LORD had commanded him, and took the two tablets of stone in his hand.
34:5Then the LORD descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the Name of the LORD.
34:6And the LORD passed before him and proclaimed, “The LORD, the LORD, a God compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in steadfast love and faithfulness,
34:7keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity, transgression, and sin, yet by no means leaving the guilty unpunished; visiting the iniquity of fathers upon children and upon children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.”
34:8And Moses hurried and bowed to the earth and worshiped.
34:9And he said, “Now if I have found favor in Your sight, O Lord, please let the Lord go among us, for we are a stiff-necked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us as Your inheritance.”
34:10Then He said, “Behold, I am making a covenant. Before all your people I will do wonders such as have never been done in all the earth or among any nation; and all the people among whom you are shall see the work of the LORD, for it is an awesome thing that I am doing with you.
34:11Observe what I am commanding you today. Behold, I am driving out before you the Amorites, Canaanites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites.
34:12Take heed to yourself, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land into which you are going, lest it become a snare in your midst.
34:13But you shall tear down their altars, shatter their pillars, and cut down their sacred poles.
34:14For you shall not worship another god; for the LORD, whose Name is Jealous, is a jealous God.
34:15Take heed, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they prostitute themselves after their gods and sacrifice to their gods, and one of them invites you and you eat of his sacrifice,
34:16and you take some of their daughters for your sons, and their daughters prostitute themselves after their gods and cause your sons to prostitute themselves after their gods.
34:17You shall not make cast-metal gods for yourself.
34:18You shall keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you, at the appointed time in the month of Abib; for in the month of Abib you came out of Egypt.
34:19Every firstborn male is Mine, including every male firstborn among your livestock, whether ox or sheep.
34:20And the firstborn of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb; and if you do not redeem it, you shall break its neck. Every firstborn of your sons you shall redeem; and none shall appear before Me empty-handed.
34:21Six days you shall labor, but on the seventh day you shall rest; even during plowing and harvest you shall rest.
34:22And you shall keep the Feast of Weeks, with the firstfruits of the wheat harvest, and the Feast of Ingathering at the turn of the year.
34:23Three times in the year all your males shall appear before the Lord, the LORD, the God of Israel.
34:24For I will drive out nations before you and enlarge your border; and no man shall covet your land when you go up to appear before the LORD your God three times in the year.
34:25You shall not offer the blood of My sacrifice with anything leavened, and the Passover sacrifice shall not remain until morning.
34:26The first of the firstfruits of your ground you shall bring into the house of the LORD your God. You shall not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.”
34:27Then the LORD said to Moses, “Write these words for yourself, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.”
34:28And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread nor drank water. And he wrote upon the tablets the words of the covenant—the Ten Commandments.
34:29And it came to pass, when Moses came down from Mount Sinai—with the two tablets of the Testimony in Moses’ hand as he came down from the mountain—that Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because he had spoken with Him.
34:30When Aaron and all the sons of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone, and they were afraid to come near him.
34:31Then Moses called to them, and Aaron and all the leaders of the congregation returned to him; and Moses spoke to them.
34:32And afterward all the sons of Israel came near, and he commanded them concerning all that the LORD had spoken with him on Mount Sinai.
34:33And when Moses finished speaking with them, he put a veil over his face.
34:34But whenever Moses went in before the LORD to speak with Him, he would remove the veil until he came out; and when he came out, he would speak to the sons of Israel all that he had been commanded.
34:35And the sons of Israel would see the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses’ face shone; then Moses would put the veil back over his face until he went in to speak with Him.

Chapter 35

35:1Then Moses assembled all the congregation of the sons of Israel and said to them, “These are the things that the LORD commanded you to do:
35:2Six days work may be done, but the seventh day shall be holy to you, a Sabbath of complete rest to the LORD; whoever does any work on it shall be put to death.
35:3You shall not kindle a fire in any of your dwellings on the Sabbath day.”
35:4Then Moses spoke to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, saying, “This is what the LORD commanded:
35:5Take from among you a contribution to the LORD. Everyone whose heart is willing shall bring the LORD’s contribution: gold, silver, and bronze;
35:6blue, purple, and scarlet yarn; fine linen and goats’ hair;
35:7rams’ skins dyed red, fine leather, and acacia wood;
35:8oil for the light, and spices for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense;
35:9onyx stones, and stones for setting in the priestly vest and the breastpiece.
35:10And every skilled artisan among you shall come and make all that the LORD has commanded:
35:11the Dwelling Place, its tent and its covering, its clasps, frames, bars, pillars, and bases;
35:12the Ark and its poles, the atonement cover, and the veil;
35:13the table and its poles, all its utensils, and the bread of the Presence;
35:14the lampstand for the light, its utensils and lamps, and the oil for the light;
35:15the altar of incense and its poles, the anointing oil and the fragrant incense, and the screen for the entrance of the Dwelling Place;
35:16the altar of burnt offering with its bronze grate, its poles and all its utensils, and the basin and its stand;
35:17the hangings of the court, its pillars and bases, and the screen for the gate of the court;
35:18the pegs of the Dwelling Place and the pegs of the court, and their cords;
35:19the service garments for ministering in the Holy Place, the holy garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments of his sons, in which they shall serve as priests.”
35:20Then all the congregation of the sons of Israel departed from Moses’ presence.
35:21And they came—everyone whose heart stirred him and everyone whose spirit moved him—and brought the LORD’s contribution for the work of the Tent of Meeting, for all its service, and for the holy garments.
35:22They came, men and women alike, every willing-hearted one; they brought brooches, earrings, signet rings, and armlets, every kind of gold article, and everyone who presented a wave offering of gold to the LORD.
35:23And everyone who possessed blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, fine linen, goats’ hair, rams’ skins dyed red, or fine leather brought them.
35:24Everyone who presented a contribution of silver or bronze brought the LORD’s contribution; and everyone who possessed acacia wood for any work of the service brought it.
35:25And every skillful woman spun with her hands, and they brought what they had spun: blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and fine linen.
35:26And all the women whose hearts moved them with skill spun the goats’ hair.
35:27And the leaders brought the onyx stones and the stones for setting in the priestly vest and the breastpiece,
35:28and the spices and the oil for the light, for the anointing oil, and for the fragrant incense.
35:29Every man and woman among the sons of Israel whose heart moved them to bring anything for all the work that the LORD had commanded through Moses brought a freewill offering to the LORD.
35:30Then Moses said to the sons of Israel, “See, the LORD has called by name Bezalel, son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah.
35:31And He has filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, understanding, knowledge, and all craftsmanship,
35:32to devise artistic designs, to work in gold, silver, and bronze,
35:33in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, to work in every artistic craft.
35:34And He has put in his heart the ability to teach, both he and Oholiab, son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan.
35:35He has filled them with skill to perform every craft: the work of an engraver, a designer, an embroiderer in blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and in fine linen, and a weaver—as workers in every craft and makers of artistic designs.”

Chapter 36

36:1And Bezalel, Oholiab, and every skilled artisan in whom the LORD had put skill and understanding to know how to perform all the work of the sanctuary carried it out according to all that the LORD had commanded.
36:2Then Moses called Bezalel, Oholiab, and every skilled artisan in whose heart the LORD had put skill—everyone whose heart moved him to come to the work and do it.
36:3And they received from Moses all the contributions that the sons of Israel had brought for the work of the sanctuary service. And the people continued bringing him freewill offerings morning by morning.
36:4Then all the skilled artisans who were doing all the work of the sanctuary came, each from the work he was doing,
36:5and they said to Moses, “The people are bringing much more than enough for the work that the LORD commanded us to do.”
36:6So Moses gave command, and a proclamation was passed throughout the camp, saying, “Let neither man nor woman prepare anything more as a contribution for the sanctuary.” Thus the people were restrained from bringing,
36:7for the material they had was sufficient for all the work, and more than enough.
36:8Then all the skilled artisans among the workers made the Dwelling Place with ten curtains of fine twisted linen and blue, purple, and scarlet yarn; they made them with winged guardians skillfully worked into them.
36:9The length of each curtain was twenty-eight cubits, and the width of each curtain four cubits; all the curtains had the same measure.
36:10And he joined five curtains to one another, and the other five curtains he joined to one another.
36:11And he made loops of blue on the edge of the outermost curtain in the first set, and likewise he made them on the edge of the outermost curtain in the second set.
36:12He made fifty loops on the first curtain and fifty loops on the edge of the curtain in the second set, so that the loops were opposite one another.
36:13And he made fifty clasps of gold and joined the curtains to one another with the clasps, so that the Dwelling Place was one whole.
36:14And he made curtains of goats’ hair for a tent over the Dwelling Place; eleven curtains he made.
36:15The length of each curtain was thirty cubits, and the width of each curtain four cubits; all eleven curtains had the same measure.
36:16And he joined five curtains by themselves and six curtains by themselves.
36:17And he made fifty loops on the edge of the outermost curtain in the first set, and fifty loops on the edge of the curtain in the second set.
36:18And he made fifty clasps of bronze and joined the tent together, so that it was one whole.
36:19And he made a covering for the tent of rams’ skins dyed red, and above it a covering of fine leather.
36:20And he made upright frames of acacia wood for the Dwelling Place.
36:21Ten cubits was the length of each frame, and a cubit and a half the width of each frame.
36:22Each frame had two tenons, parallel to one another; so he made all the frames of the Dwelling Place.
36:23And he made the frames for the Dwelling Place: twenty frames for the south side.
36:24And he made forty silver bases under the twenty frames, two bases under each frame for its two tenons.
36:25And for the second side of the Dwelling Place, the north side, he made twenty frames,
36:26with their forty silver bases, two bases under each frame.
36:27And for the rear of the Dwelling Place, toward the west, he made six frames.
36:28And he made two frames for the two rear corners of the Dwelling Place.
36:29They were paired at the bottom and joined together at the top by one ring; so he made both of them for the two corners.
36:30Thus there were eight frames, with their sixteen silver bases, two bases under each frame.
36:31And he made bars of acacia wood: five for the frames on one side of the Dwelling Place,
36:32five bars for the frames on the other side of the Dwelling Place, and five bars for the frames at the rear of the Dwelling Place, toward the west.
36:33And he made the middle bar to pass through the center of the frames from end to end.
36:34And he overlaid the frames with gold, made their rings of gold as holders for the bars, and overlaid the bars with gold.
36:35And he made the veil of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and fine twisted linen; he made it with winged guardians skillfully worked into it.
36:36And he made four pillars of acacia wood for it and overlaid them with gold; their hooks were of gold, and he cast four silver bases for them.
36:37And he made a screen for the entrance of the tent, of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and fine twisted linen, the work of an embroiderer,
36:38with its five pillars and their hooks. He overlaid their tops and bands with gold, and their five bases were of bronze.

Chapter 37

37:1Then Bezalel made the Ark of acacia wood, two and a half cubits long, a cubit and a half wide, and a cubit and a half high.
37:2And he overlaid it with pure gold, inside and outside, and made a gold molding around it.
37:3And he cast four gold rings for it and put them on its four feet, two rings on one side and two rings on the other side.
37:4And he made poles of acacia wood and overlaid them with gold.
37:5And he inserted the poles into the rings on the sides of the Ark, to carry the Ark by them.
37:6And he made an atonement cover of pure gold, two and a half cubits long and a cubit and a half wide.
37:7And he made two winged guardians of gold; of hammered work he made them at the two ends of the atonement cover—
37:8one winged guardian at one end and one winged guardian at the other end; of one piece with the atonement cover he made the winged guardians at its two ends.
37:9And the winged guardians spread their wings upward, overshadowing the atonement cover with their wings. They faced one another; the faces of the winged guardians were toward the atonement cover.
37:10And he made the table of acacia wood, two cubits long, a cubit wide, and a cubit and a half high.
37:11And he overlaid it with pure gold and made a gold molding around it.
37:12And he made a border around it a handbreadth wide, and made a gold molding around its border.
37:13And he cast four gold rings for it and put the rings on the four corners at its four feet.
37:14The rings were close to the border, as holders for the poles by which the table was carried.
37:15And he made the poles of acacia wood and overlaid them with gold, that the table might be carried by them.
37:16And he made the utensils that were upon the table—its dishes, pans, pitchers, and bowls, with which drink offerings were poured—of pure gold.
37:17And he made the lampstand of pure gold. He made the lampstand of hammered work; its base and shaft, its cups, buds, and flowers were of one piece with it.
37:18Six branches extended from its sides: three branches of the lampstand from one side, and three branches of the lampstand from the other side.
37:19Three cups shaped like almond blossoms, each with a bud and a flower, were on one branch, and three cups shaped like almond blossoms, each with a bud and a flower, on the next branch—so for the six branches extending from the lampstand.
37:20And on the lampstand itself were four cups shaped like almond blossoms, with its buds and flowers.
37:21There was a bud under the first pair of branches extending from it, a bud under the second pair of branches extending from it, and a bud under the third pair of branches extending from it—so for the six branches extending from it.
37:22Their buds and branches were of one piece with it; all of it was one hammered work of pure gold.
37:23And he made its seven lamps, its wick tongs, and its trays of pure gold.
37:24He made it and all its utensils from a talent of pure gold.
37:25And he made the incense altar of acacia wood, a cubit long and a cubit wide—it was square—and two cubits high; its horns were of one piece with it.
37:26And he overlaid it with pure gold—its top, its sides all around, and its horns—and made a gold molding around it.
37:27And he made two gold rings for it beneath its molding, on its two opposite sides, as holders for poles by which to carry it.
37:28And he made the poles of acacia wood and overlaid them with gold.
37:29And he made the holy anointing oil and the pure fragrant incense, the work of a perfumer.

Chapter 38

38:1And he made the altar of burnt offering of acacia wood, five cubits long and five cubits wide—it was square—and three cubits high.
38:2And he made horns upon its four corners; its horns were of one piece with it, and he overlaid it with bronze.
38:3And he made all the utensils of the altar: its pots for removing the ashes, its shovels, basins, forks, and firepans. He made all its utensils of bronze.
38:4And he made for the altar a bronze grate of network beneath its ledge, extending halfway up the altar.
38:5And he cast four rings at the four corners of the bronze grate, as holders for the poles.
38:6And he made the poles of acacia wood and overlaid them with bronze.
38:7And he inserted the poles into the rings on the sides of the altar, to carry it by them. He made the altar hollow, with boards.
38:8And he made the bronze basin and its bronze stand from the mirrors of the women who served at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting.
38:9And he made the court. On the south side were hangings for the court of fine twisted linen, one hundred cubits long on that side.
38:10Their twenty pillars and their twenty bases were of bronze; the hooks of the pillars and their bands were of silver.
38:11And on the north side were hangings one hundred cubits long, with twenty pillars and twenty bronze bases; the hooks of the pillars and their bands were of silver.
38:12And on the west side were hangings fifty cubits long, with ten pillars and ten bases; the hooks of the pillars and their bands were of silver.
38:13And the width of the court on the east side was fifty cubits.
38:14The hangings on one side were fifteen cubits long, with three pillars and three bases.
38:15And on the other side—on this side and that side of the gate of the court—were hangings fifteen cubits long, with three pillars and three bases.
38:16All the hangings around the court were of fine twisted linen.
38:17And the bases for the pillars were of bronze; the hooks of the pillars and their bands were of silver, and the overlay of their tops was silver. All the pillars of the court were joined with silver bands.
38:18And the screen for the gate of the court was the work of an embroiderer, of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and fine twisted linen. It was twenty cubits long and five cubits high throughout, corresponding to the hangings of the court.
38:19And its four pillars and their four bases were of bronze; their hooks were of silver, and the overlay of their tops and their bands was of silver.
38:20And all the pegs for the Dwelling Place and for the court all around were of bronze.
38:21These are the records of the Dwelling Place, the Dwelling Place of the Testimony, as they were counted at the command of Moses—the service of the Levites under the direction of Ithamar, son of Aaron the priest.
38:22And Bezalel, son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, made all that the LORD had commanded Moses.
38:23And with him was Oholiab, son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, an engraver, a designer, and an embroiderer in blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and fine linen.
38:24All the gold used for the work, in all the work of the Holy Place—the gold from the wave offering—was twenty-nine talents and seven hundred and thirty shekels, according to the sanctuary shekel.
38:25And the silver from those numbered of the congregation was one hundred talents and one thousand seven hundred and seventy-five shekels, according to the sanctuary shekel:
38:26a half-shekel for each one counted—half a shekel according to the sanctuary shekel—for everyone who passed among those counted, from twenty years old and upward, for six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty men.
38:27And the one hundred talents of silver were used to cast the bases of the Holy Place and the bases of the veil: one hundred bases from the hundred talents, a talent for each base.
38:28And from the one thousand seven hundred and seventy-five shekels he made hooks for the pillars, overlaid their tops, and made bands for them.
38:29And the bronze from the wave offering was seventy talents and two thousand four hundred shekels.
38:30And with it he made the bases for the entrance of the Tent of Meeting, the bronze altar and its bronze grate, and all the utensils of the altar;
38:31the bases around the court, the bases for the gate of the court, all the pegs of the Dwelling Place, and all the pegs around the court.

Chapter 39

39:1And from the blue, purple, and scarlet yarn they made service garments for ministry in the Holy Place; and they made the holy garments for Aaron, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
39:2And he made the priestly vest of gold, blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and fine twisted linen.
39:3And they hammered the gold into thin sheets and cut it into threads, to work it into the blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and the fine linen—the work of a skilled designer.
39:4They made shoulder pieces for it, joined at its two edges, so that it was joined together.
39:5And the skillfully woven band upon it, by which it was fastened, was of one piece and of the same workmanship: of gold, blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and fine twisted linen, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
39:6And they prepared the onyx stones, enclosed in settings of gold filigree, engraved like a signet with the names of the sons of Israel.
39:7And he set them on the shoulder pieces of the priestly vest as memorial stones for the sons of Israel, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
39:8And he made the breastpiece, skillfully worked, like the workmanship of the priestly vest: of gold, blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and fine twisted linen.
39:9It was square and doubled; they made the breastpiece a span long and a span wide when doubled.
39:10And they set in it four rows of stones: a row of sardius, topaz, and carbuncle was the first row;
39:11the second row, emerald, sapphire, and diamond;
39:12the third row, opal, agate, and amethyst;
39:13and the fourth row, beryl, onyx, and jasper. They were enclosed in gold settings.
39:14And the stones were according to the names of the sons of Israel, twelve according to their names; engraved like a signet, each with its name, they were for the twelve tribes.
39:15And they made braided chains of pure gold, like cords, for the breastpiece.
39:16And they made two settings of gold filigree and two gold rings, and put the two rings on the two ends of the breastpiece.
39:17And they put the two gold cords through the two rings at the ends of the breastpiece.
39:18And they attached the other two ends of the two cords to the two settings and fastened them to the shoulder pieces of the priestly vest at its front.
39:19And they made two gold rings and set them on the two lower corners of the breastpiece, on its inner edge next to the priestly vest.
39:20And they made two more gold rings and put them on the two shoulder pieces of the priestly vest, low on the front, near its seam and above the woven band of the priestly vest.
39:21And they bound the rings of the breastpiece to the rings of the priestly vest with a cord of blue, so that the breastpiece rested above the woven band of the priestly vest and did not come loose from it, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
39:22And he made the robe of the priestly vest, the work of a weaver, entirely of blue.
39:23And the opening of the robe was in its center, like the opening of a coat of mail, with a woven binding around the opening, so that it would not be torn.
39:24And upon the hem of the robe they made pomegranates of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and fine twisted linen.
39:25And they made bells of pure gold and put the bells between the pomegranates, all around the hem of the robe:
39:26a bell and a pomegranate, a bell and a pomegranate, all around the hem of the robe, for ministering in it, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
39:27And they made the tunics of fine linen, the work of a weaver, for Aaron and his sons;
39:28the turban of fine linen, the caps of fine linen, and the linen undergarments of fine twisted linen;
39:29and the sash of fine twisted linen and blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, the work of an embroiderer, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
39:30And they made the plate of the holy diadem of pure gold and engraved upon it, like the engraving of a signet: Holy to the LORD.
39:31And they fastened to it a cord of blue, to fasten it upon the turban above, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
39:32Thus all the work of the Dwelling Place of the Tent of Meeting was completed. And the sons of Israel did according to all that the LORD had commanded Moses; so they did.
39:33And they brought the Dwelling Place to Moses: the tent and all its furnishings, its clasps, frames, bars, pillars, and bases;
39:34the covering of rams’ skins dyed red, the covering of fine leather, and the shielding veil;
39:35the Ark of the Testimony and its poles, and the atonement cover;
39:36the table, all its utensils, and the bread of the Presence;
39:37the pure lampstand, its lamps—the lamps to be set in order—and all its utensils, and the oil for the light;
39:38the gold altar, the anointing oil, the fragrant incense, and the screen for the entrance of the tent;
39:39the bronze altar and its bronze grate, its poles and all its utensils, and the basin and its stand;
39:40the hangings of the court, its pillars and bases, the screen for the gate of the court, its cords and pegs, and all the utensils for the service of the Dwelling Place, for the Tent of Meeting;
39:41the service garments for ministry in the Holy Place, the holy garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments of his sons, in which they were to serve as priests.
39:42According to all that the LORD had commanded Moses, so the sons of Israel did all the work.
39:43And Moses examined all the work, and behold, they had done it; as the LORD had commanded, so they had done. And Moses blessed them.

Chapter 40

40:1And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
40:2“On the first day of the first month, you shall raise up the Dwelling Place of the Tent of Meeting.
40:3And you shall set the Ark of the Testimony there and screen the Ark with the veil.
40:4And you shall bring in the table and set in order what belongs upon it; and you shall bring in the lampstand and light its lamps.
40:5And you shall put the gold altar for incense before the Ark of the Testimony and set up the screen for the entrance of the Dwelling Place.
40:6And you shall put the altar of burnt offering before the entrance of the Dwelling Place of the Tent of Meeting.
40:7And you shall put the basin between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and put water in it.
40:8And you shall set up the court all around and put up the screen for the gate of the court.
40:9And you shall take the anointing oil and anoint the Dwelling Place and all that is in it, and consecrate it and all its furnishings; and it shall be holy.
40:10And you shall anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and consecrate the altar; and the altar shall be most holy.
40:11And you shall anoint the basin and its stand and consecrate it.
40:12And you shall bring Aaron and his sons near to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting and wash them with water.
40:13And you shall clothe Aaron with the holy garments, anoint him, and consecrate him, that he may serve as priest to Me.
40:14And you shall bring his sons near and clothe them with tunics.
40:15And you shall anoint them as you anointed their father, that they may serve as priests to Me; and their anointing shall be for them an enduring priesthood throughout their generations.”
40:16And Moses did according to all that the LORD had commanded him; so he did.
40:17And in the first month of the second year, on the first day of the month, the Dwelling Place was raised up.
40:18And Moses raised up the Dwelling Place, set its bases, placed its frames, set its bars, and raised up its pillars.
40:19And he spread the tent over the Dwelling Place and put the covering of the tent over it, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
40:20And he took the Testimony and put it into the Ark, set the poles on the Ark, and put the atonement cover upon the Ark above.
40:21And he brought the Ark into the Dwelling Place, set up the shielding veil, and screened the Ark of the Testimony, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
40:22And he put the table in the Tent of Meeting, on the north side of the Dwelling Place, outside the veil.
40:23And he set the bread in order upon it before the LORD, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
40:24And he put the lampstand in the Tent of Meeting, opposite the table, on the south side of the Dwelling Place.
40:25And he lit the lamps before the LORD, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
40:26And he set the gold altar in the Tent of Meeting before the veil.
40:27And he burned fragrant incense upon it, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
40:28And he set up the screen for the entrance of the Dwelling Place.
40:29And he set the altar of burnt offering at the entrance of the Dwelling Place of the Tent of Meeting, and offered upon it the burnt offering and the grain offering, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
40:30And he put the basin between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and put water in it for washing.
40:31And Moses, Aaron, and his sons washed their hands and their feet from it.
40:32Whenever they entered the Tent of Meeting or drew near to the altar, they washed, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
40:33And he raised up the court around the Dwelling Place and the altar, and put up the screen for the gate of the court. Thus Moses completed the work.
40:34Then the cloud covered the Tent of Meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the Dwelling Place.
40:35And Moses was not able to enter the Tent of Meeting, because the cloud had settled upon it and the glory of the LORD filled the Dwelling Place.
40:36And whenever the cloud was lifted from over the Dwelling Place, the sons of Israel journeyed throughout all their journeys.
40:37But if the cloud was not lifted, they did not journey until the day it was lifted.
40:38For the cloud of the LORD was over the Dwelling Place by day, and fire was in it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel throughout all their journeys.
