Chapter 1

1:1In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and laid siege to it.
1:2And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, along with some of the vessels of the house of God; and he brought them into the land of Shinar, to the house of his god, and brought the vessels into the treasury of his god.
1:3Then the king spoke to Ashpenaz, his chief official, to bring some of the sons of Israel, from the royal family and from the nobility:
1:4young men in whom there was no blemish, beautiful in appearance, skillful in all wisdom, possessing knowledge, understanding learning, and competent to stand in the king’s palace; and to teach them the literature and language of the Chaldeans.
1:5And the king appointed for them a daily portion from the king’s food and from the wine he drank, and ordered that they be trained for three years, so that at the end of that time they might stand before the king.
1:6And among them, from the sons of Judah, were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.
1:7And the chief official gave them names: to Daniel he gave the name Belteshazzar; to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abed-Nego.
1:8But Daniel resolved in his heart that he would not defile himself with the king’s portion of food or with the wine he drank; and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself.
1:9And God gave Daniel favor and compassion before the chief official.
1:10And the chief official said to Daniel, “I fear my lord the king, who has appointed your food and your drink. Why should he see your faces looking worse than those of the young men of your own age? Then you would endanger my life before the king.”
1:11Then Daniel said to the steward whom the chief official had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,
1:12“Please test your servants for ten days; and let them give us vegetables to eat and water to drink.
1:13Then let our appearance and the appearance of the young men who eat the king’s portion of food be examined before you; and deal with your servants according to what you see.”
1:14So he listened to them in this matter and tested them for ten days.
1:15And at the end of ten days, they appeared better and fuller in flesh than all the young men who ate the king’s portion of food.
1:16Therefore the steward took away their portion of food and the wine they were to drink, and gave them vegetables.
1:17And as for these four young men, God gave them knowledge and understanding in every kind of literature and wisdom; and Daniel had understanding in every kind of vision and dream.
1:18And at the end of the days when the king had ordered that they be brought in, the chief official brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.
1:19And the king spoke with them; and among them all none was found like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. Therefore they stood before the king.
1:20And in every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his whole kingdom.
1:21And Daniel continued until the first year of King Cyrus.

Chapter 2

2:1And in the second year of Nebuchadnezzar’s reign, Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams; his spirit was troubled, and his sleep left him.
2:2Then the king commanded that the magicians, the enchanters, the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans be summoned to tell the king his dreams; and they came in and stood before the king.
2:3And the king said to them, “I have dreamed a dream, and my spirit is troubled to know the dream.”
2:4And the Chaldeans spoke to the king in Aramaic, “O king, live forever. Tell the dream to your servants, and we will show the interpretation.”
2:5The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, “The command from me is firm: If you do not make known to me the dream and its interpretation, you shall be torn limb from limb, and your houses shall be made refuse heaps;
2:6but if you show the dream and its interpretation, you shall receive gifts, rewards, and great honor from me. Therefore show me the dream and its interpretation.”
2:7They answered a second time and said, “Let the king tell the dream to his servants, and we will show the interpretation.”
2:8The king answered and said, “Of a truth, I know that you are trying to gain time, because you see that my command is firm.
2:9If you do not make known to me the dream, there is but one sentence for you. For you have agreed to speak lying and corrupt words before me until the time changes. Therefore tell me the dream, and then I will know that you can show me its interpretation.”
2:10The Chaldeans answered before the king and said, “There is no man on earth who can make known the king’s matter; for no great and powerful king has ever asked such a thing of any magician, enchanter, or Chaldean.
2:11And the matter the king asks is difficult, and no one can make it known before the king except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.”
2:12Because of this the king was furious and very angry, and commanded that all the wise men of Babylon be destroyed.
2:13And the decree went forth that the wise men were to be slain; and they sought Daniel and his companions, to slay them.
2:14Then Daniel answered with counsel and discretion to Arioch, captain of the king’s guard, who had gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon.
2:15He answered and said to Arioch, the king’s captain, “Why is the decree from the king so severe?” Then Arioch made the matter known to Daniel.
2:16And Daniel went in and asked the king to give him time, that he might show the interpretation to the king.
2:17Then Daniel went to his house and made the matter known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions,
2:18and urged them to seek mercy from the God of the heavens concerning this mystery, so that Daniel and his companions might not be destroyed with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.
2:19Then the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a vision of the night. And Daniel blessed the God of the heavens.
2:20Daniel answered and said, “Blessed be the Name of God from age to age, for wisdom and might are His.
2:21And He changes times and seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings. He gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to those who possess understanding.
2:22He reveals deep and hidden things; He knows what is in darkness, and light dwells with Him.
2:23You, O God of my fathers, I thank and praise, for You have given me wisdom and might; and now You have made known to me what we asked of You, for You have made known to us the king’s matter.”
2:24Therefore Daniel went to Arioch, whom the king had appointed to destroy the wise men of Babylon. He went and said to him, “Do not destroy the wise men of Babylon. Bring me in before the king, and I will show the interpretation to the king.”
2:25Then Arioch brought Daniel in haste before the king and said to him, “I have found a man among the exiles from Judah who will make known the interpretation to the king.”
2:26The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, “Are you able to make known to me the dream I have seen and its interpretation?”
2:27Daniel answered before the king and said, “The mystery the king asks about cannot be shown to the king by wise men, enchanters, magicians, or diviners;
2:28but there is a God in the heavens who reveals mysteries, and He has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Your dream and the visions of your head upon your bed are these:
2:29You, O king, as you lay upon your bed, your thoughts arose concerning what shall be after this; and He who reveals mysteries has made known to you what shall be.
2:30And as for me, this mystery has not been revealed to me because of any wisdom in me beyond that of anyone living, but so that the interpretation might be made known to the king, and that you might know the thoughts of your heart.
2:31You, O king, were looking, and behold, a great image. This image was mighty and its brightness surpassing; it stood before you, and its appearance was terrifying.
2:32The head of this image was of fine gold, its chest and arms of silver, its belly and thighs of bronze,
2:33its legs of iron, and its feet partly of iron and partly of clay.
2:34You were looking until a stone was cut out without hands; and it struck the image upon its feet of iron and clay and broke them in pieces.
2:35Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold were broken in pieces together and became like chaff from the summer threshing floors; and the wind carried them away, and no trace of them was found. And the stone that struck the image became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.
2:36This is the dream, and we will tell its interpretation before the king.
2:37You, O king, are a king of kings, for the God of the heavens has given you the kingdom, the power, the might, and the glory;
2:38and wherever the sons of men dwell, He has given the beasts of the field and the birds of the heavens into your hand, and has caused you to rule over them all. You are the head of gold.
2:39And after you another kingdom shall arise, inferior to yours; and then another, a third kingdom of bronze, which shall rule over all the earth.
2:40And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron, because iron breaks and crushes all things; and like iron that shatters all these, it shall break and shatter them.
2:41And as for what you saw—the feet and toes, partly of potter’s clay and partly of iron—the kingdom shall be divided; yet some of the strength of iron shall be in it, because you saw the iron mixed with soft clay.
2:42And as the toes of the feet were partly of iron and partly of clay, so part of the kingdom shall be strong, and part of it brittle.
2:43Because you saw iron mixed with soft clay, they shall mingle with the seed of men; but they shall not cling to one another, just as iron does not mix with clay.
2:44And in the days of these kings, the God of the heavens shall raise up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed, nor shall the kingdom be left to another people. It shall break in pieces and bring all these kingdoms to an end, and it shall stand forever.
2:45For you saw that a stone was cut from the mountain without hands, and that it broke the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold in pieces. The great God has made known to the king what shall be after this; and the dream is certain, and its interpretation trustworthy.”
2:46Then King Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face and paid homage to Daniel, and commanded that an offering and incense be presented to him.
2:47The king answered Daniel and said, “Truly, your God is God of gods and Lord of kings, and a Revealer of mysteries, since you have been able to reveal this mystery.”
2:48Then the king exalted Daniel and gave him many great gifts; and he appointed him ruler over the whole province of Babylon and chief prefect over all the wise men of Babylon.
2:49And at Daniel’s request, the king appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego over the administration of the province of Babylon; but Daniel remained at the king’s court.

Chapter 3

3:1Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, sixty cubits high and six cubits wide. He raised it up on the Plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.
3:2Then Nebuchadnezzar the king sent word to gather the satraps, the prefects, the governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the judges, the magistrates, and all the provincial officials, that they might come to the dedication of the image which Nebuchadnezzar the king had raised up.
3:3Then the satraps, the prefects, the governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the judges, the magistrates, and all the provincial officials gathered for the dedication of the image which Nebuchadnezzar the king had raised up; and they stood before the image Nebuchadnezzar had raised up.
3:4And a herald proclaimed loudly, “To you it is commanded, O peoples, nations, and languages:
3:5At the time when you hear the sound of the horn, the pipe, the lyre, the triangular harp, the harp, the bagpipe, and every kind of music, you shall fall down and worship the golden image which Nebuchadnezzar the king has raised up.
3:6And whoever does not fall down and worship shall in that hour be cast into the midst of a furnace of blazing fire.”
3:7Therefore, at that time, when all the peoples heard the sound of the horn, the pipe, the lyre, the triangular harp, the harp, and every kind of music, all the peoples, nations, and languages fell down and worshiped the golden image which Nebuchadnezzar the king had raised up.
3:8Therefore, at that time, certain Chaldeans drew near and brought accusations against the Jews.
3:9They answered and said to Nebuchadnezzar the king, “O king, live forever.
3:10You, O king, have made a decree that every man who hears the sound of the horn, the pipe, the lyre, the triangular harp, the harp, the bagpipe, and every kind of music shall fall down and worship the golden image;
3:11and whoever does not fall down and worship shall be cast into the midst of a furnace of blazing fire.
3:12There are certain Jews whom you appointed over the administration of the province of Babylon—Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. These men have paid no regard to you, O king; they do not serve your gods, nor do they worship the golden image you have raised up.”
3:13Then Nebuchadnezzar, in anger and fury, commanded that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego be brought in. And these men were brought before the king.
3:14Nebuchadnezzar answered and said to them, “Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the golden image I have raised up?
3:15Now, if you are ready, when you hear the sound of the horn, the pipe, the lyre, the triangular harp, the harp, the bagpipe, and every kind of music, fall down and worship the image I have made. But if you do not worship, in that hour you shall be cast into the midst of a furnace of blazing fire; and who is that god who will deliver you out of my hands?”
3:16Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego answered and said to King Nebuchadnezzar, “We have no need to answer you concerning this matter.
3:17If this is so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king.
3:18But even if He does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods, nor will we worship the golden image you have raised up.”
3:19Then Nebuchadnezzar was filled with fury, and the expression of his face changed toward Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. He commanded that the furnace be heated seven times more than it was ordinarily heated.
3:20And he commanded certain mighty men in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego and cast them into the furnace of blazing fire.
3:21Then these men were bound in their cloaks, their tunics, their caps, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the furnace of blazing fire.
3:22Therefore, because the king’s command was urgent and the furnace exceedingly hot, the flame of the fire killed the men who carried Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego up.
3:23And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, fell down bound in the midst of the furnace of blazing fire.
3:24Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished and rose in haste. He answered and said to his counselors, “Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire?” They answered and said to the king, “Certainly, O king.”
3:25He answered and said, “Behold, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; they are unharmed, and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods.”
3:26Then Nebuchadnezzar drew near to the opening of the furnace of blazing fire. He answered and said, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, servants of God Most High, come forth; come here.” Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego came forth from the midst of the fire.
3:27And the satraps, the prefects, the governors, and the king’s counselors gathered together and saw these men: the fire had no power over their bodies; the hair of their heads was not singed, their cloaks were unchanged, and the smell of fire had not passed upon them.
3:28Nebuchadnezzar answered and said, “Blessed is the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, who sent His angel and delivered His servants who trusted in Him, who disregarded the king’s command and yielded up their bodies, that they might not serve or worship any god except their own God.
3:29Therefore I make a decree: any people, nation, or language that speaks wrongly concerning the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego shall be torn limb from limb, and his house shall be made a refuse heap, because there is no other god who is able to deliver in this way.”
3:30Then the king caused Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego to prosper in the province of Babylon.
3:31“Nebuchadnezzar the king, to all peoples, nations, and languages dwelling in all the earth: May your peace abound.
3:32It has seemed good to me to declare the signs and wonders that God Most High has done for me.
3:33How great are His signs, and how mighty His wonders! His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and His rule is from generation to generation.

Chapter 4

4:1I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at ease in my house and flourishing in my palace.
4:2I dreamed a dream, and it frightened me; the thoughts upon my bed and the visions of my head troubled me.
4:3So I issued a decree that all the wise men of Babylon should be brought before me, that they might make known to me the interpretation of the dream.
4:4Then the magicians, the enchanters, the Chaldeans, and the diviners came in; and I told the dream before them, but they did not make its interpretation known to me.
4:5And at last Daniel came before me, whose name is Belteshazzar—according to the name of my god—and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and I told the dream before him.
4:6“O Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in you, and no mystery is difficult for you, tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and its interpretation.
4:7As for the visions of my head upon my bed, I was looking, and behold, a tree stood in the midst of the earth, and its height was great.
4:8The tree became great and strong; its height reached to the heavens, and it was visible to the end of the whole earth.
4:9Its leaves were beautiful, its fruit abundant, and in it was food for all. Beneath it the beasts of the field found shade, in its branches the birds of the heavens dwelt, and from it all flesh was fed.
4:10I was looking in the visions of my head upon my bed, and behold, a watcher, a holy one, came down from the heavens.
4:11He proclaimed loudly and said, ‘Cut down the tree and cut off its branches; strip off its leaves and scatter its fruit. Let the beasts flee from beneath it, and the birds from its branches.
4:12But leave the stump with its roots in the earth, bound with a band of iron and bronze, in the tender grass of the field. Let it be wet with the dew of the heavens, and let its portion be with the beasts in the grass of the earth.
4:13Let its heart be changed from that of a man, and let the heart of a beast be given to it; and let seven times pass over it.
4:14The sentence is by decree of the watchers, and the matter by command of the holy ones, so that the living may know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, gives it to whom He wills, and raises up over it the lowest of men.’
4:15This dream I, King Nebuchadnezzar, have seen. And you, O Belteshazzar, tell its interpretation, because all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make the interpretation known to me; but you are able, for the spirit of the holy gods is in you.”
4:16Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was astonished for a moment, and his thoughts troubled him. The king answered and said, “O Belteshazzar, do not let the dream or its interpretation trouble you.” Belteshazzar answered and said, “My lord, may the dream be for those who hate you, and its interpretation for your enemies.
4:17The tree that you saw, which became great and strong, whose height reached to the heavens and which was visible to all the earth,
4:18whose leaves were beautiful, whose fruit was abundant, and in which was food for all; beneath which the beasts of the field dwelt, and in whose branches the birds of the heavens made their home—
4:19it is you, O king. For you have become great and mighty; your greatness has grown and reached to the heavens, and your dominion to the end of the earth.
4:20And what the king saw—a watcher, a holy one, coming down from the heavens and saying, ‘Cut down the tree and destroy it, but leave the stump with its roots in the earth, bound with a band of iron and bronze, in the tender grass of the field; let it be wet with the dew of the heavens, and let its portion be with the beasts of the field until seven times pass over it’—
4:21this is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the Most High that has come upon my lord the king:
4:22You shall be driven away from men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field. They shall cause you to eat grass like oxen, and you shall be wet with the dew of the heavens; and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men and gives it to whom He wills.
4:23And as they commanded that the stump with the tree’s roots be left, your kingdom shall remain for you after you know that the heavens rule.
4:24Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you: break away from your sins by practicing righteousness, and from your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor; perhaps your prosperity may be prolonged.”
4:25All this came upon Nebuchadnezzar the king.
4:26At the end of twelve months, he was walking upon the roof of the royal palace of Babylon.
4:27The king answered and said, “Is this not great Babylon, which I have built as a royal house by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?”
4:28While the word was still in the king’s mouth, a voice came down from the heavens: “To you it is said, O King Nebuchadnezzar: the kingdom has passed from you.
4:29And you shall be driven away from men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field. They shall cause you to eat grass like oxen, and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men and gives it to whom He wills.”
4:30In that hour the word was fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar. He was driven from men and ate grass like oxen; his body was wet with the dew of the heavens, until his hair grew like eagles’ feathers and his nails like birds’ claws.
4:31“And at the end of the days, I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to the heavens, and my understanding returned to me. And I blessed the Most High, and praised and honored the One who lives forever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and whose kingdom is from generation to generation.
4:32All who dwell on the earth are reckoned as nothing; and according to His will He acts among the heavenly host and among those who dwell on the earth. There is none who can restrain His hand or say to Him, ‘What have You done?’
4:33At that time my understanding returned to me; and for the glory of my kingdom, my honor and splendor returned to me. My counselors and nobles sought me out, and I was restored over my kingdom, and surpassing greatness was added to me.
4:34Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt and honor the King of the heavens, for all His works are truth, and His ways justice; and those who walk in pride He is able to humble.”

Chapter 5

5:1Belshazzar the king made a great feast for a thousand of his nobles, and drank wine in the presence of the thousand.
5:2When he had tasted the wine, Belshazzar commanded that the vessels of gold and silver be brought in, which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken from the temple in Jerusalem, so that the king and his nobles, his wives, and his concubines might drink from them.
5:3Then they brought in the vessels of gold that had been taken from the temple of the house of God in Jerusalem; and the king and his nobles, his wives, and his concubines drank from them.
5:4They drank wine and praised the gods of gold, silver, bronze, iron, wood, and stone.
5:5In that hour the fingers of a man’s hand came forth and wrote opposite the lampstand upon the plaster of the wall of the king’s palace; and the king saw the palm of the hand that wrote.
5:6Then the king’s countenance changed, and his thoughts troubled him; the joints of his hips gave way, and his knees struck against one another.
5:7The king called loudly for the enchanters, the Chaldeans, and the diviners to be brought in. The king answered and said to the wise men of Babylon, “Any man who reads this writing and makes its interpretation known to me shall be clothed in purple, a chain of gold shall be upon his neck, and he shall rule as third in the kingdom.”
5:8Then all the king’s wise men came in, but they were not able to read the writing or make its interpretation known to the king.
5:9Then King Belshazzar was greatly troubled, and his countenance changed within him, and his nobles were perplexed.
5:10The queen, because of the words of the king and his nobles, came into the banquet hall. The queen answered and said, “O king, live forever. Do not let your thoughts trouble you, nor let your countenance be changed.
5:11There is a man in your kingdom in whom is the spirit of the holy gods. In the days of your father, light and understanding and wisdom—like the wisdom of the gods—were found in him; and your father, King Nebuchadnezzar, appointed him chief of the magicians, enchanters, Chaldeans, and diviners—your father, O king—
5:12because an excellent spirit, knowledge, understanding, the interpreting of dreams, the explaining of riddles, and the untying of knots were found in him—in Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar. Now let Daniel be called, and he will make known the interpretation.”
5:13Then Daniel was brought before the king. The king answered and said to Daniel, “Are you that Daniel who is one of the exiles of Judah, whom my father the king brought out of Judah?
5:14I have heard of you, that the spirit of the gods is in you, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom have been found in you.
5:15And now the wise men and the enchanters have been brought before me, that they might read this writing and make its interpretation known to me; but they are not able to make known the interpretation of the matter.
5:16And I have heard of you, that you are able to give interpretations and untie knots. Now, if you are able to read the writing and make its interpretation known to me, you shall be clothed in purple, a chain of gold shall be upon your neck, and you shall rule as third in the kingdom.”
5:17Then Daniel answered and said before the king, “Let your gifts remain with you, and give your rewards to another. Nevertheless, I will read the writing to the king and make its interpretation known to him.
5:18You, O king—the Most High God gave your father Nebuchadnezzar a kingdom, greatness, glory, and majesty.
5:19And because of the greatness He gave him, all peoples, nations, and languages trembled and feared before him. Whom he willed he slew, and whom he willed he kept alive; whom he willed he raised up, and whom he willed he brought low.
5:20But when his heart was lifted up and his spirit was hardened so that he acted proudly, he was brought down from the throne of his kingdom, and his glory was taken from him.
5:21And he was driven from the sons of men, and his heart was made like that of the beasts; his dwelling was with the wild donkeys. They caused him to eat grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of the heavens, until he knew that God Most High rules in the kingdom of men and raises over it whom He wills.
5:22And you, his son Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, though you knew all this.
5:23But you have lifted yourself up against the Lord of the heavens. The vessels of His house were brought before you, and you and your nobles, your wives, and your concubines drank wine from them. You praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which neither see nor hear nor know; but the God in whose hand is your breath, and whose are all your ways, you have not honored.
5:24Then the palm of the hand was sent from before Him, and this writing was inscribed.
5:25And this is the writing that was inscribed: Numbered, Numbered, Weighed, and Divided.
5:26This is the interpretation of the matter: Numbered—God has numbered your kingdom and brought it to an end.
5:27Weighed—you have been weighed in the balances and found lacking.
5:28Divided—your kingdom has been divided and given to the Medes and Persians.”
5:29Then Belshazzar commanded, and they clothed Daniel in purple, placed a chain of gold upon his neck, and proclaimed concerning him that he was the third ruler in the kingdom.
5:30In that night Belshazzar, king of the Chaldeans, was slain.

Chapter 6

6:1And Darius the Mede received the kingdom, being sixty-two years old.
6:2It pleased Darius to appoint over the kingdom one hundred and twenty satraps, that they might be throughout the whole kingdom,
6:3and three administrators over them, one of whom was Daniel, so that these satraps might give account to them and the king suffer no loss.
6:4Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the administrators and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king planned to appoint him over the whole kingdom.
6:5Then the administrators and satraps sought to find a ground for accusation against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find no ground for accusation or corruption, because he was faithful, and no negligence or corruption was found in him.
6:6Then these men said, “We shall not find any ground for accusation against this Daniel, unless we find it against him concerning the law of his God.”
6:7Then these administrators and satraps came together before the king and said to him, “O King Darius, live forever.
6:8All the administrators of the kingdom, the prefects, the satraps, the counselors, and the governors have taken counsel to establish a royal statute and enact a firm injunction: whoever makes a petition to any god or man for thirty days, except to you, O king, shall be cast into a den of lions.
6:9Now, O king, establish the injunction and sign the writing, that it may not be changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be revoked.”
6:10Therefore King Darius signed the writing and the injunction.
6:11And when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went up to his house. His windows were open in his upper chamber toward Jerusalem; and three times a day he knelt upon his knees, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he had done before.
6:12Then these men came together and found Daniel praying and pleading for mercy before his God.
6:13Then they came near and spoke before the king concerning the king’s injunction: “Have you not signed an injunction, that any man who makes a petition to any god or man for thirty days, except to you, O king, shall be cast into a den of lions?” The king answered and said, “The matter is certain, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be revoked.”
6:14Then they answered and said before the king, “Daniel, who is one of the exiles from Judah, has paid no regard to you, O king, nor to the injunction you have signed; but three times a day he makes his petition.”
6:15Then the king, when he heard the word, was greatly distressed, and he set his heart upon delivering Daniel, and labored until the going down of the sun to rescue him.
6:16Then these men came together before the king and said to the king, “Know, O king, that it is a law of the Medes and Persians that no injunction or statute which the king establishes may be changed.”
6:17Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel and cast him into a den of lions. The king answered and said to Daniel, “Your God, whom you serve continually—He will deliver you.”
6:18And a stone was brought and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his signet and with the signet of his nobles, so that the decision concerning Daniel might not be changed.
6:19Then the king went to his palace and passed the night fasting. No entertainment was brought before him, and his sleep fled from him.
6:20Then the king rose at dawn, at the first light, and went in haste to the den of lions.
6:21And when he came near the den, he cried to Daniel with a voice of anguish. The king answered and said to Daniel, “O Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lions?”
6:22Then Daniel spoke to the king: “O king, live forever.
6:23My God sent His angel and shut the lions’ mouths, and they have not harmed me, because innocence was found in me before Him; and also before you, O king, I have done no harm.”
6:24Then the king was exceedingly glad for him, and commanded that Daniel be taken up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no harm was found upon him, because he had trusted in his God.
6:25And the king commanded, and they brought those men who had accused Daniel and cast them into the den of lions—they, their sons, and their wives. Before they reached the bottom of the den, the lions overpowered them and broke all their bones in pieces.
6:26Then Darius the king wrote to all the peoples, nations, and languages dwelling in all the earth: “May your peace abound.
6:27I make a decree: in every dominion of my kingdom, men shall tremble and fear before the God of Daniel. For He is the living God, enduring forever; His kingdom shall not be destroyed, and His dominion shall be to the end.
6:28He delivers and rescues, and He works signs and wonders in the heavens and on the earth; He has delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.”
6:29And this Daniel prospered during the reign of Darius and during the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

Chapter 7

7:1In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon, Daniel saw a dream and visions of his head upon his bed. Then he wrote down the dream and related the summary of the matter.
7:2Daniel answered and said, “I was looking in my vision by night, and behold, the four winds of the heavens were stirring up the Great Sea.
7:3And four great beasts came up from the sea, each different from the other.
7:4The first was like a lion and had eagle’s wings. I was looking until its wings were plucked; and it was lifted from the earth and made to stand upon two feet like a man, and a man’s heart was given to it.
7:5And behold, another beast, a second, like a bear. It was raised up on one side, and three ribs were in its mouth between its teeth; and thus they said to it, ‘Rise, devour much flesh.’
7:6After this I was looking, and behold, another, like a leopard. It had four wings of a bird upon its back; the beast also had four heads, and dominion was given to it.
7:7After this I was looking in the visions of the night, and behold, a fourth beast, dreadful and terrifying and exceedingly strong. It had great iron teeth; it devoured and broke in pieces, and trampled the remainder with its feet. It was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns.
7:8I was considering the horns, and behold, another horn, a little one, came up among them; and three of the first horns were uprooted before it. And behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking great things.
7:9I was looking until thrones were set in place, and the Ancient of Days was seated. His garment was white as snow, and the hair of His head like pure wool; His throne was flames of fire, and its wheels burning fire.
7:10A river of fire streamed forth from before Him. A thousand thousands served Him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him. The court sat, and the scrolls were opened.
7:11I was looking then because of the sound of the great words which the horn spoke. I was looking until the beast was slain, and its body destroyed and given over to the burning fire.
7:12As for the rest of the beasts, their dominion was taken away, yet a prolonging of life was given to them for a season and a time.
7:13I was looking in the visions of the night, and behold, One like a Son of Man came with the clouds of the heavens. He came to the Ancient of Days, and they brought Him near before Him.
7:14And to Him was given dominion, glory, and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and His kingdom one which shall not be destroyed.
7:15As for me, Daniel, my spirit was distressed within its sheath, and the visions of my head troubled me.
7:16I drew near to one of those standing there and sought from him the truth concerning all this. And he spoke to me and made known to me the interpretation of the matters:
7:17‘These great beasts, which are four, are four kings who shall arise from the earth.
7:18But the holy ones of the Most High shall receive the kingdom and possess the kingdom forever—forever and ever.’
7:19Then I desired to know the truth concerning the fourth beast, which was different from all the others and exceedingly terrifying, with teeth of iron and claws of bronze; it devoured and broke in pieces, and trampled the remainder with its feet.
7:20And I desired to know concerning the ten horns upon its head, and the other horn which came up, before which three fell—that horn which had eyes and a mouth speaking great things, and whose appearance was more imposing than its companions.
7:21I was looking, and this horn made war with the holy ones and prevailed over them,
7:22until the Ancient of Days came, and judgment was given in favor of the holy ones of the Most High; and the time came when the holy ones possessed the kingdom.
7:23Thus he said: ‘The fourth beast is the fourth kingdom upon the earth, which shall be different from all kingdoms; it shall devour all the earth, tread it down, and break it in pieces.
7:24And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings who shall arise; and another shall arise after them. He shall be different from the former ones, and shall bring low three kings.
7:25He shall speak words against the Most High, wear out the holy ones of the Most High, and intend to change appointed times and law; and they shall be given into his hand until a time, times, and half a time.
7:26But the court shall sit, and his dominion shall be taken away, to be consumed and destroyed to the end.
7:27And the kingdom, the dominion, and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heavens shall be given to the people—the holy ones of the Most High. His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey Him.’
7:28Here is the end of the matter. As for me, Daniel, my thoughts greatly troubled me, and my countenance changed; but I kept the matter in my heart.”

Chapter 8

8:1“In the third year of the reign of Belshazzar the king, a vision appeared to me—to me, Daniel—after the one that appeared to me at the beginning.
8:2And I saw in the vision; and it came to pass, as I looked, that I was in the citadel of Susa, which is in the province of Elam. And I saw in the vision that I was beside the Ulai Canal.
8:3Then I lifted up my eyes and looked; and behold, a ram stood before the canal, and it had two horns. The two horns were high, but one was higher than the other, and the higher one came up last.
8:4I saw the ram pushing westward, northward, and southward; and no beast could stand before it, nor was there any who could deliver from its hand. It did as it pleased and made itself great.
8:5And as I was considering, behold, a male goat came from the west over the face of the whole earth without touching the earth; and the male goat had a conspicuous horn between its eyes.
8:6And it came to the ram with the two horns, which I had seen standing before the canal, and ran at it in the fury of its power.
8:7And I saw it come near the ram. It was enraged against it, struck the ram, and broke its two horns; and there was no power in the ram to stand before it. It cast it to the earth and trampled it down, and there was no deliverer for the ram from its power.
8:8And the male goat made itself exceedingly great; but when it was strong, the great horn was broken, and four conspicuous horns came up in its place toward the four winds of the heavens.
8:9And from one of them came forth a little horn, which made itself exceedingly great toward the south, toward the east, and toward the Beautiful Land.
8:10And it grew great, even to the host of heaven; and it caused some of the host and some of the stars to fall to the earth, and trampled them down.
8:11It made itself great even against the Prince of the host; and the continual offering was taken away from Him, and the place of His sanctuary was cast down.
8:12And a host was given over to it, together with the continual offering, because of transgression. It cast truth to the earth; and it acted and prospered.
8:13Then I heard a holy one speaking; and another holy one said to the one who was speaking, ‘How long is the vision concerning the continual offering and the transgression that makes desolate, to give both the sanctuary and the host over to be trampled?’
8:14And he said to me, ‘For two thousand three hundred evenings and mornings; then the sanctuary shall be vindicated.’
8:15And when I, Daniel, had seen the vision, I sought understanding; and behold, standing before me was one with the appearance of a man.
8:16Then I heard a man’s voice between the banks of the Ulai, and he called and said, ‘Gabriel, cause this one to understand the vision.’
8:17So he came near where I stood; and when he came, I was afraid and fell upon my face. And he said to me, ‘Understand, son of man, for the vision is for the time of the end.’
8:18And as he spoke with me, I fell into a deep sleep with my face toward the earth; but he touched me and caused me to stand where I had stood.
8:19Then he said, ‘Behold, I am causing you to know what shall be at the latter end of the indignation, for the end is at the appointed time.
8:20The ram that you saw, which had two horns—the horns are the kings of Media and Persia.
8:21And the hairy male goat is the king of Greece; and the great horn between its eyes is the first king.
8:22And as for the horn that was broken, in whose place four stood up: four kingdoms shall arise from the nation, but not with its power.
8:23And at the latter end of their kingdom, when the transgressors have come to fullness, a king shall arise, fierce of face and understanding riddles.
8:24His power shall be mighty, but not by his own power. He shall cause astonishing destruction, and shall prosper and act; he shall destroy the mighty and the holy people.
8:25And by his cunning he shall cause deceit to prosper in his hand. He shall exalt himself in his heart, and while they are at ease he shall destroy many. He shall stand against the Prince of princes—but he shall be broken without hand.
8:26And the vision of the evenings and mornings, which was told, is true. But you, seal up the vision, for it concerns many days.”
8:27And I, Daniel, became sick for days. Then I rose and did the king’s work; but I was appalled at the vision, and there was no one who understood it.

Chapter 9

9:1“In the first year of Darius son of Ahasuerus, of the seed of the Medes, who was made king over the kingdom of the Chaldeans—
9:2in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood from the scrolls the number of years which, according to the word of the LORD to Jeremiah the prophet, would fulfill the desolations of Jerusalem—seventy years.
9:3Then I set my face toward the Lord God, to seek Him by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes.
9:4And I prayed to the LORD my God and confessed, saying, “Ah, Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love Him and keep His commandments,
9:5we have sinned, acted perversely, done wickedly, and rebelled, turning aside from Your commandments and judgments.
9:6And we have not listened to Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your Name to our kings, our princes, our fathers, and all the people of the land.
9:7To You, O Lord, belongs righteousness, but to us open shame, as at this day—to the men of Judah, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and all Israel, those near and those far off, in all the lands to which You have driven them, because of the unfaithfulness they committed against You.
9:8O LORD, to us belongs open shame—to our kings, our princes, and our fathers—because we have sinned against You.
9:9To the Lord our God belong compassion and forgiveness, though we have rebelled against Him.
9:10And we have not listened to the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in His laws which He set before us by His servants the prophets.
9:11And all Israel has transgressed Your law and turned aside, so as not to listen to Your voice. Therefore the curse and the oath written in the Law of Moses, the servant of God, have been poured out upon us, because we have sinned against Him.
9:12And He has confirmed His words, which He spoke against us and against our judges who judged us, by bringing great calamity upon us; for under the whole heavens nothing has been done like what has been done in Jerusalem.
9:13As it is written in the Law of Moses, all this calamity has come upon us; yet we have not sought the favor of the LORD our God by turning from our iniquities and gaining insight through Your truth.
9:14Therefore the LORD watched over the calamity and brought it upon us; for the LORD our God is righteous in all His works which He has done, yet we have not listened to His voice.
9:15And now, O Lord our God, who brought Your people out of the land of Egypt with a strong hand and made for Yourself a name, as at this day—we have sinned; we have acted wickedly.
9:16O Lord, according to all Your righteous acts, please let Your anger and Your wrath turn away from Your city Jerusalem, Your holy mountain. For because of our sins and the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and Your people have become a reproach to all our neighbors.
9:17And now, O our God, hear the prayer of Your servant and his supplications, and cause Your face to shine upon Your desolate sanctuary, for Your own sake, O Lord.
9:18Incline Your ear, O my God, and hear; open Your eyes and see our desolations, and the city upon which Your Name is called. For we do not present our supplications before You because of our righteousness, but because of Your great compassion.
9:19O Lord, hear. O Lord, forgive. O Lord, attend and act. Do not delay, for Your own sake, O my God, for Your Name is called upon Your city and upon Your people.”
9:20And while I was speaking and praying, confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the LORD my God for the holy mountain of my God—
9:21indeed, while I was still speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, came to me in swift flight at the time of the evening offering.
9:22And he gave me understanding, and spoke with me, and said, “O Daniel, I have now come forth to give you insight and understanding.
9:23At the beginning of your supplications the word went forth, and I have come to declare it, for you are greatly beloved. Therefore understand the matter and consider the vision.
9:24Seventy weeks are determined for your people and for your holy city: to finish transgression, to seal up sins, to atone for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophet, and to anoint the Most Holy Place.
9:25Know, then, and understand: from the going forth of the word to restore and build Jerusalem until an Anointed One, a Leader, there shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks. The city square and the moat shall be built again, even in troubled times.
9:26And after the sixty-two weeks, an Anointed One shall be cut off and shall have nothing. And the people of a leader who is coming shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; its end shall come with a flood, and until the end there shall be war; desolations are determined.
9:27And he shall make a firm covenant with many for one week; and in the middle of the week he shall cause sacrifice and grain offering to cease. And upon the wing of abominations shall come one who makes desolate, until the decreed complete destruction is poured out upon the desolator.”

Chapter 10

10:1In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia, a word was revealed to Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar. The word was true and concerned a great conflict; and he understood the word and had understanding of the vision.
10:2“In those days I, Daniel, mourned for three full weeks.
10:3I ate no delicacies; no meat or wine entered my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, until the three full weeks were completed.
10:4And on the twenty-fourth day of the first month, I was beside the great river, that is, the Tigris.
10:5Then I lifted up my eyes and looked; and behold, a man clothed in linen, with a belt of fine gold from Uphaz around his waist.
10:6His body was like beryl, his face like the appearance of lightning, his eyes like torches of fire, his arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and the sound of his words like the sound of a multitude.
10:7I, Daniel, alone saw the vision. The men who were with me did not see the vision, but a great trembling fell upon them, and they fled to hide themselves.
10:8So I was left alone and saw this great vision. No strength remained in me; my appearance became deathly pale, and I retained no strength.
10:9Then I heard the sound of his words; and when I heard the sound of his words, I fell into a deep sleep on my face, with my face to the ground.
10:10And behold, a hand touched me and set me trembling on my knees and the palms of my hands.
10:11Then he said to me, “Daniel, man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak to you, and stand in your place, for now I have been sent to you.” And when he spoke this word to me, I stood trembling.
10:12Then he said to me, “Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words.
10:13But the prince of the kingdom of Persia stood against me for twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left there with the kings of Persia.
10:14And I have come to make you understand what shall happen to your people in the latter days, for the vision concerns days yet to come.”
10:15And when he had spoken these words to me, I set my face toward the ground and was silent.
10:16And behold, one in the likeness of a human being touched my lips. Then I opened my mouth and spoke, and said to him who stood before me, “My lord, because of the vision anguish has come upon me, and I have retained no strength.
10:17How can the servant of my lord speak with my lord? For as for me, no strength remains in me now, nor is any breath left in me.”
10:18Then again one with the appearance of a man touched me and strengthened me.
10:19And he said, “Do not fear, O man greatly beloved. Peace to you. Be strong; yes, be strong.” And when he spoke with me, I was strengthened, and I said, “Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.”
10:20Then he said, “Do you know why I have come to you? And now I shall return to fight with the prince of Persia; and when I go forth, behold, the prince of Greece shall come.
10:21But I shall declare to you what is written in the Book of Truth. There is none who stands firmly with me against these except Michael, your prince.

Chapter 11

11:1And I, in the first year of Darius the Mede, stood up to strengthen and support him.
11:2And now I shall declare the truth to you. Behold, three more kings shall arise in Persia, and the fourth shall become far richer than all of them; and when he has grown strong through his riches, he shall stir up all against the kingdom of Greece.
11:3Then a mighty king shall arise, and he shall rule with great dominion and do according to his will.
11:4But as soon as he has arisen, his kingdom shall be broken and divided toward the four winds of the heavens, but not to his descendants, nor according to the dominion with which he ruled; for his kingdom shall be uprooted and given to others besides them.
11:5And the king of the south shall become strong, but one of his princes shall become stronger than he and rule; his dominion shall be a great dominion.
11:6And at the end of years they shall make an alliance. The daughter of the king of the south shall come to the king of the north to make an agreement; but she shall not retain the strength of her arm, nor shall he and his arm endure. She shall be given up—she, those who brought her, the one who fathered her, and the one who supported her in those times.
11:7But one from a branch of her roots shall arise in his place. He shall come against the army and enter the stronghold of the king of the north; he shall act against them and prevail.
11:8He shall also carry captive to Egypt their gods, with their cast images and their precious vessels of silver and gold; and for some years he shall stand aloof from the king of the north.
11:9Then the king of the north shall enter the kingdom of the king of the south, but shall return to his own land.
11:10But his sons shall stir themselves up and gather a multitude of great forces. One shall certainly come, overflow, and pass through; then he shall return and wage war as far as his stronghold.
11:11And the king of the south shall be enraged, and shall go forth and fight with him—with the king of the north. The king of the north shall raise a great multitude, but the multitude shall be given into the other’s hand.
11:12And when the multitude has been carried away, his heart shall be lifted up. He shall cast down tens of thousands, yet he shall not prevail.
11:13For the king of the north shall return and raise a multitude greater than the first; and after some years he shall certainly come with a great army and abundant supplies.
11:14And in those times many shall arise against the king of the south. The violent men among your people shall lift themselves up to fulfill the vision—but they shall stumble.
11:15Then the king of the north shall come, build a siege ramp, and capture a fortified city. The forces of the south shall not stand, nor shall his chosen troops, for there shall be no strength to stand.
11:16But he who comes against him shall do according to his will, and none shall stand before him. He shall stand in the desirable land, with destruction in his hand.
11:17And he shall set his face to come with the strength of his whole kingdom, bringing terms of peace, and he shall act. He shall give him the daughter of women to destroy the kingdom, but she shall not stand with him or be for him.
11:18Then he shall turn his face toward the coastlands and capture many. But a commander shall put an end to his reproach and turn his reproach back upon him.
11:19Then he shall turn his face toward the strongholds of his own land; but he shall stumble and fall, and shall not be found.
11:20Then one shall arise in his place who sends an exactor through the glory of the kingdom; but within a few days he shall be broken, though not in anger or in battle.
11:21And a despicable one shall arise in his place. They shall not give him the majesty of the kingdom; but he shall come in a time of security and seize the kingdom by intrigue.
11:22And overwhelming forces shall be swept away from before him and broken, and also the prince of the covenant.
11:23And from the time an alliance is made with him, he shall act deceitfully; he shall rise and become strong with a small people.
11:24He shall enter in a time of security, even into the richest parts of the province, and shall do what his fathers and his fathers’ fathers did not do. He shall scatter among them plunder, spoil, and possessions; and he shall devise his plans against strongholds, but only for a time.
11:25And he shall stir up his power and his heart against the king of the south with a great army. The king of the south shall stir himself up to battle with a very great and mighty army, but he shall not stand, for they shall devise plans against him.
11:26Those who eat his delicacies shall destroy him; his army shall be swept away, and many shall fall slain.
11:27And the hearts of both kings shall be bent on doing evil. At one table they shall speak lies, but it shall not succeed, for the end is yet at the appointed time.
11:28Then he shall return to his land with great possessions; his heart shall be against the holy covenant. He shall take action, and then return to his own land.
11:29At the appointed time he shall return and come against the south; but this time shall not be as the former time or as the latter.
11:30For ships of Kittim shall come against him; and he shall lose heart, and shall return and act insolently against the holy covenant. He shall take action, and return, and give heed to those who forsake the holy covenant.
11:31And forces from him shall arise; they shall profane the sanctuary, the stronghold, remove the continual offering, and set up the abomination of desolation.
11:32And those who act wickedly against the covenant he shall corrupt by flatteries; but the people who know their God shall stand firm and act.
11:33And the wise among the people shall give understanding to many; yet they shall stumble by sword, and by flame, by captivity, and by plunder—for some days.
11:34And when they stumble, they shall be helped with a little help; but many shall join themselves to them with flatteries.
11:35And some of the wise shall stumble, to refine them, and to purify, and to make them white—until the time of the end, for it is yet for the appointed time.
11:36And the king shall do according to his will. He shall exalt and magnify himself above every god, and speak astonishing things against the God of gods; and he shall prosper until the indignation is finished, for what is determined shall be done.
11:37He shall pay no heed to the gods of his fathers, nor to the desire of women; indeed, he shall pay no heed to any god, for he shall magnify himself above all.
11:38But in their place he shall honor the god of fortresses; and a god whom his fathers did not know he shall honor with gold, and silver, and precious stones, and costly things.
11:39He shall act against the strongest fortresses with the help of a foreign god. Those who acknowledge him he shall lavish with honor; he shall cause them to rule over many and apportion the land for a price.
11:40And at the time of the end, the king of the south shall clash with him, and the king of the north shall storm against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, horsemen, and many ships. He shall enter the lands, overflow, and pass through.
11:41He shall also enter the desirable land, and many countries shall fall; but these shall escape from his hand: Edom, Moab, and the foremost of the Ammonites.
11:42And he shall stretch out his hand against the lands, and the land of Egypt shall not escape.
11:43He shall rule over the treasures of gold and silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt; and the Libyans and Cushites shall follow at his steps.
11:44But reports from the east and from the north shall trouble him; and he shall go forth in great wrath to destroy and devote many to destruction.
11:45And he shall plant the tents of his palace between the seas and the beautiful holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and there shall be no helper for him.

Chapter 12

12:1And at that time Michael shall arise, the great prince who stands for the sons of your people. And there shall be a time of distress such as has not been since there was a nation until that time. But at that time your people shall be delivered—everyone found written in the book.
12:2And many of those sleeping in the dust of the ground shall awake: some to everlasting life, and some to reproach and everlasting contempt.
12:3And those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the expanse, and those who lead many to righteousness like the stars forever and ever.
12:4But you, O Daniel, shut up the words and seal the book until the time of the end. Many shall go to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.”
12:5Then I, Daniel, looked; and behold, two others stood, one on this bank of the river and one on that bank of the river.
12:6And one said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, “How long until the end of these wonders?”
12:7Then I heard the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river. He lifted up his right hand and his left to the heavens, and swore by Him who lives forever that it shall be for a time, times, and half a time; and when the shattering of the power of the holy people is completed, all these things shall be finished.
12:8And I heard, but I did not understand. Then I said, “O my lord, what shall be the outcome of these things?”
12:9And he said, “Go, Daniel, for the words are shut up and sealed until the time of the end.
12:10Many shall purify themselves, and make themselves white, and be refined; but the wicked shall act wickedly, and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand.
12:11And from the time the continual offering is removed and the abomination of desolation is set up shall be one thousand two hundred and ninety days.
12:12Blessed is he who waits and reaches the one thousand three hundred and thirty-five days.
12:13But you, go your way to the end. Then you shall rest and stand in your allotted place at the end of the days.”
